  1. Tiger starts Sunday off horribly, but other than some "god damn it" on national TV he has kept his cool pretty well and could recover and win this thing after 9 holes. Or he'll continue to choke. No part of his game is looking good so far today.
  2. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 09:32 AM) Yes. Pee wee league counts too. But to be practical, we'll determine major league mileage by looking at major league innings. Valuable pitching prospects don't get ridden hard in the minors. For comparison's sake, Sale has thrown just a little bit less in the MLB - 405 IP. We can't say they've had a similar workload though, because Jeffy threw 485 IP in MiLB while Chris threw 10. Samardzija threw 241 IP in college, too. Chris had similar college usage. What we can see, though, is you can't call Samardzija's arm 25 when he's thrown twice the innings of our 24 year old ace. How old is Chris's arm? 12? All of those innings count.
  3. If the rumored return for Garza is right, we should be able to swing a franchise-changing kind of deal for Peavy if our GM can scout and negotiate well.
  4. The hope here is that Phegley is good enough that we don't have to worry about any of these guys - maybe see Ayala, Barraza, or as of yet undrafted players as Phegley starts to get older and approaches FA (no doubt after a few WS titles for our Sox )
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:02 PM) Rios is gone after 2014. If the team really wants to rebuild, there is no reason for them to keep Rios. I'm pretty sure that "rebuild" in the White Sox FO means they will spend one year retooling/trying out young guys before making a push to win in 2015 followed by (hopefully) a World Series or two and then a half decade or so of near misses which will get fans to call for the firing of Hahn. Nothing major
  6. This is not a drill - ANOTHER bomb.
  7. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 06:09 PM) He's been a slightly below average hitter for the league, which is fine, once you consider his age. But once you get into how he's getting that production it becomes concerning. He has the highest K% (among qualified hitters) at any level in organized baseball. It's also worth nothing that K% rises for hitters the further they go up the developmental latter. This is a huge concern. I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find any successful major leaguer that's had a season where they K'd > 40% of the time at any level. Hopefully I'm wrong, and Hawkins improves his ability to make contact. But so far the results haven't been encouraging. I think we agree that it has been far from encouraging. I just don't know if panic is the right thing yet. If he goes back to 25% K rate for the rest of the season, his season numbers won't look insane. For some reference, Trayce Thompson is a guy in our own system whose strikeouts have gone down every single year, from insanely high to okay. 36%+ as a 18-19 year old down to 23% this year.
  8. His wRC+ is 94, which means he's been just short of an average hitter in that league. Parts of his game have been amazingly ugly (contact) while parts of it have been amazingly good (power). Nobody is jumping for joy at how he is playing, but it could be worse
  9. Wilkins has hit 4 HR in 3 games, with the ASB in the middle. His hot streak has his wRC+ up to 110. Some peripherals still have to even out (K's a tad high, walks a tad low compared to career averages), but it looks like he is going to figure out AAA and take advantage of a small ballpark. OPS vs L - .760 OPS vs R - .783
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 05:54 PM) And also today is a day that ends in Y. And Mark Prior is hurt. Worth pointing out since the Chicago media seems to think the Sox couldn't give Peavy away
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 05:51 PM) So far his hit tool is translating well to the Majors. Doubles and HR's were his thing in the minors and is keeping that here. Up until this year, his hit tool was the only decent thing about him. Had decent averages and no power
  12. The difference between Low-A and High-A is miniscule. The problem is Courtney. Let's hope he figures everything out.
  13. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 04:26 PM) Nice inning Jake. Keep it up and you will soon be pitching for a team with a competent defense. No prob
  14. Jesus Christ is our scorekeeper brutal today
  15. Looks like Ventura managed this Rios situation perfectly
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) This is the most personality he's ever shown Yeah he's being pretty funny in this interview, probably out of him being annoyed with the long inning
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) You mean like Phegley, Beckham, Sale and Santiago? They are playing well and still losing...so lose away. Maybe it's me, but winning these games is secondary now to player development, etc. I want them all to play well! Jordan Danks ---> MVP
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) I would as well, but rather have the 1st slot then the 3rd if they're going to suck. I don't want to watch the team that loses more than the Astros and Marlins. If all the right players played well and we still got the first pick, great
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) I'd rather have Carlos Rodon pitching for 10 years to form an incredible duo with Chris Sale I'll be happy enough with pick 3-5.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) Ventura I thought told the guys in the interview that he put it on. It seemed like he was joking, but anything is possible
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) It's pretty obvious Sox are going to wind up with the No. 1 or 2 draft pick by the time this carnage of a season is over. So many of you will be very very happy at that. I won't even pay attention til the draftee is ready for the bigs. Don't care about baseball draft. Yes I care about the result of last night's game, fathom. I care greatly. I didn't watch 5 innings hoping we'd lose. I'd just assume win. People come to the ballpark trying to make a positive memory. It isn't fun watching Brent Morel kick the ball around
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) Yep, Ventura just called for a bunt down 4. It's Morel. He probably did it himself to bypass having to hit
