  1. FWIW, that play is really hard on the pitcher and doesn't have a real high success rate
  2. Blanton making pitches
  3. Let's just keep AR in the two spot. Love him there.
  4. As I said in another thread, Yahoo! is trying to get team beat writers without the expenditure of having a Mark Gonzalez type guy doing it full time. They've allowed a lot of people to try it out on a provisional basis, but my impression so far is that most have not been allowed to proceed to a more permanent gig. They have some wonderful writers across all sports -- their LA Lakers writer won a $1500 bonus for writer of the year last year, and that does not include just sports. I write about more than the White Sox on there because I'm actually a freelance writer, but you can tell a few folks have joined just because they wanted to BS about their favorite team. It shows through in their writing.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2013 -> 11:49 PM) how you feeling Pain. Had one pleasant surprise (biceps tendon did not need reattachment) but labrum tear was far more severe than they anticipated. They said I had probably been going bone on bone for years. RC tear was relatively minor, only need debrisment. They did a PRP on the labrum too, which is kind of neat. Now that my nerve block is gone, I'm laying around being a big wimp.
  6. Nail it down, Addy!
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2013 -> 11:46 PM) wedding Not even my surgery at the hands of Anthony Romeo can keep me from watching this red hot Sox team

  13. QUOTE (Jake @ May 17, 2013 -> 10:56 PM) Chris Sale good at baseball. he's on a rate to potentially earn the entire extension in this one season
  14. Chris Sale good at baseball.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2013 -> 09:46 PM) What did Keppinger do? Looking in the box score, there's only an error on Flowers. Did the defense bail him out? Kepp whiffed on the short hop from Flowers
  16. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 17, 2013 -> 09:02 PM) Sales? must be related to Kerry Woods
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ May 17, 2013 -> 07:33 PM) FWIW, Yahoo! has taken on a bevy of freelancers like myself on a provisional basis. So far, only a couple of us have made it past the provisional stage. They have some folks that do a nice job and some that won't continue to write for much longer. Not trying to toot my own horn by the way, just explaining how it works. I'm not perfect and learn every day as I shift from news copy (my niche really) and academic writing to editorial type. I think I do well, but I can get better (will be happy to field criticism also).
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) Does he have the type of frame and bat speed to project putting up those type of numbers? Because just looking at him from afar, he seems more like one of those 8-10-12 HR guys that doesn't do any one thing especially great...but, overall, he's a positive contributor to a team. Maybe a starter on a bottom 5-10 team, utility/fringe player on a playoff team. Maybe in the Keppinger/Sean Rodriguez/Eliott Johnson utility role rather than a full time starter. For example, up until last season, Saladino was a very trendy "sleeper" pick. Which one would you think at this point ends up having more of an impact at the MLB level? I don't see Semien really hitting 20, but rather that is what I think his body and skills could maximally produce. I pretty much agree with your assessment.
