  1. And of course the way we do it doesn't the serve the ends it is supposed to. It doesn't make us safer, it doesn't deter criminal acts, it doesn't reduce the amount of criminals.
  2. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 11:31 PM) Who would care about watching/attending that game, besides maybe the fans of those 2 teams? Why do people watch ANY bowl game except the national championship? College fans prove themselves gullible enough to watch games that don't count already.
  3. Anything with Adam Dunn in it is awesome. He's hilarious.
  4. I'm happy to keep guns away from felons, but we as a society need to be wary of how many freedoms we take away from people who have served time. Our penal system is so punitive that many criminals just have no chance at being a "regular" citizen again. Lock them away longer than any country and send them out into the world as "free," except they can't do anything in the free world because they're felons. The prison sentence is for only so long, but the criminal sentence is life-long. We just don't do much thinking about rehabilitation out of our own self-interest/fear.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 06:18 PM) I had oregon in my head, Ok St on my brackets. f*** Even though I've been right on a couple of things I could have been wrong on, it disturbs me what little evidence I use in my head to make these decisions. "I was up late one night and saw Oregon beat someone (can't remember who, I think they were good though!) so they must be pretty legit"
  6. There are now no perfect brackets in our pool.
  7. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 05:49 PM) Should have been shooting FT's down 2 on that last possession, didn't get the benefit of the call there. Yeah, evens out. Those refs don't want to be blamed for the first 1-16 upset
  8. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) I was surprised to read about the injury to Danks and the prognosis. Danks torn shoulder capsule diagnosis . "When he finally did go under the knife, we found out that Danks' subscapularis injury had healed, but that the underlying problem turned out to be a torn shoulder capsule. The shoulder capsule problem is a relatively rare diagnosis and gathering details on those who've had the same issue has also been problematic. But the preliminary research is not promising given the names on the list: Johan Santana, Chris Young, Dallas Braden, Chien-Ming Wang, Pedro Feliciano, Tim Byrdak Mark Prior, Robb Nen, John Maine, Tomo Ohka and Rich Harden....and none of those guys have come back to be the pitchers they were." That information is contrary to what Ventura stated: "This is a part of the shoulder that they're not as worried about," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "If it was the labrum or something like that, it would be worse. It's good news. He'll be ready to go. I know he's pretty relieved as far as there was something there, they fixed it," Ventura said. Ventura downplays Dank's injury and claims he will be ready to go We talked about this a couple pages ago. All of the examples except Johan had other significant issues like labrum, RC tears on top of the capsule issue. The only major pitcher we know of that had a capsule only injury recently was Johan, and he's been fine other than a leg injury.
  9. Damn, looks like the Zags will win. Trying to decide if this will be a predictor of their coming games. I didn't have them getting very far anyway, though.
  10. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) To me it sort of looks like Southern is getting most of the 50/50 balls and most of the 50/50 calls. I haven't been watching for long, but I agree. Late call on this three point shot but it isn't a bad call.
  11. Now you'll all look dumb when he gets called up and dominates us
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) DRose apparently wasn't required to take any English classes at Memphis: "I really don't know right now," Rose said. "I don't want to place no percentage on it, but I just know that I'm close and I'm taking every day serious and just becoming a professional." Not quite up to the best quote of all time when Rickey Henderson was asked about playing with injuries, he responded and like the deal with Paulie, I will never forget: "When I'm injury, I'm totally concentrated of my mind." I googled that quote because I wanted to hear him say it, and all I could find was a post from you in 2010 and a post from you in 2005. Impressive memory, lulz
  13. My favorite games were those Urlacher-Vick showdowns. It seemed a legitimate question whether Brian or Vick was the faster player.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 01:41 PM) Will you sign my boobs?
  15. Can my favorite teams ever let a franchise player go without that player making the team look bad in the media? Can't it ever just be "it was mutual and I love them and especially the fans on Soxtalk"? PK is our greatest hope, he's not much of a s***-talker. I could see him retiring at the end of the year and I could also see him being stubborn and wanting to play for a few more.
  16. Alexander County must be purged from the state of Illinois
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) Heres what I got: Ville, OSU, Florida, Indiana Vill v Florida Florida champs For some reason I was thinking Vill = Villanova and I was super confused
  18. PFF had Urlacher as horrible last year, great in 2011, bad in 2010 HE'S DUE I'm torn. I actually think our offer was at market value, though I would have been happy to guarantee the second million for this season. I probably wouldn't have freaked out about $3M either, though. I understand where Brian is coming from, he's thinking about that $5M that Ray Lewis got last year. It's difficult to conceptualize that kind of paycut when you're Brian f***ing Urlacher. I hope he retires if we can't have him, it's almost Buehrle-level weird to think of him in another uniform. I'm not mad at either side. I just hope we can get something going in our LB corps, it is absolutely decimated at this point. There's just nobody there, not even last year's backups. We'll probably need to go MLB in round 1 and we need to find another OLB too unless we want Kelvin Hayden (if we can get him!) on the field half the time.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) Yes please. Not as the base offense, but as an added package to get on film for opponents? Yeah that'd be pretty awesome. Trestman is thinking of everything, I like it. Cutler isn't Wilson or Griffin but he does have wheels, and if you leave an open lane for him he'll run off 20 yards before your defense can recover. He only has to do this 2-3 times per game for it to be effective. I guess it's not really known that Cutler has above average athleticism because Tice ran a remedial first-grade offense, and moving the QB wasn't an integral part of the Martzfense. Cutler's best when he's on the move and not stationary reading defenses. I'm more or less ambivalent. If implemented as you describe, I can try to just trust our "guru." With that said, nobody will be happy when Cutler gets hurt because we ran designed run plays for the QB. The film is no good if Josh McCown ends up in the game. On the other hand, he does need to move. I know he wasn't eager to do it himself last year, but I think that is because had some nagging issues. Now that he's fresh, it is something he's good at and is generally a good way to open a bad offense (especially a bad one with bad pass protection). QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) Either way Im not a fan of putting a QB at risk of getting injured. I dont even like that RGIII is doing it that often because I think its a recipe for disaster and injury. I mean I have no problem with them calling a play out of shotgun and giving Cutler the option of handing off to Forte or going play action pass. I just think that you do not want QBs taking RB hits. For example, Russel Wilson almost never actually runs read option. Most of his running comes off of boot/option or broken passing plays. In college he never used the read one time, and in the pros Ive only seen it as a decoy, hes never actually kept the ball. When well-executed, these plays can be absolutely deadly.
  20. Since there is a fair amount of uncertainty with Quintana, I want Hector to get a chance. If it was a more sure bet as the 4th starter, I'd be okay with leaving Hector in the bullpen for continuity's sake. I'm afraid that we'll need to replace Q -- I'm not certain that we'll need to, but he has a relatively high risk of failure given his limited track record. I don't see why we'd want to keep our most ML ready starter in our own bullpen with this level of uncertainty.
  21. That damn Mayo Clinic and their ability to follow the law and know the age of a fetus
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) Cooper seemed pretty positive. He said he is continuing to improve, and is planning on having him start again Sunday. Also interesting to hear that Axelrod is on the same schedule as Santiago. He could be the fifth starter still if Danks can't go. Also, that was the worst interview ever.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 07:50 AM) Kendall Gill & Tim Doyle got into a physcial altercation at CSN last night lol, I don't even know what to think. It sounds like Kendall instigated the physical part of the confrontation, but the writer was careful not to make that clear, even though he saw it. Probably doesn't want to get anyone in trouble if he can help it.
  24. This is what I predicted all along. Give John another month. We get an extended look at our young lefties to see which are ready for the big show. There is no need for John to rush when we have this kind of depth.
