  1. You just get the feeling that something crazy could happen at any moment.

  3. I think if someone close to you dies, even if it is their own fault and they had done something horrible, you might still feel some type of grief. If you want these relatives to speak candidly to you, I don't see it as out of line to offer some sort of condolence to that person.

Theo needs extra money to make them competitive
  5. I wonder if Rose has put this off for the playoffs on purpose. Makes no basketball sense, but makes a ton of sense as a way to get lots of attention and possibly become a hero while the stakes are low.
  6. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) Couldn't disagree more. In baseball or football, you've seen wild card teams get hot and win it all. But basketball is the most superstar driven sport of them all. No team in recent memory won it all with a superstar except for the 04 Pistons. And I couldn't remember the last time a team outside of the top 3 seed has won the championship. I also don't think anyone has ever won the title without home court advantage beginning the first round. I agree, that's why I am trying to convince myself there is hope when it is an unbelievably long shot

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) Biggest concern I have about Sanchez is that if he is strictly a singles hitter, the Cell isn't exactly a good place for that with the outfielders not having to play deep to cover the alleys, etc. Yeah, I think the average will bump up with more at bats but projecting more power is tricky. People have used the example of Jeter as a guy that gained power with more MiLB at bats, but for the most part his value seems limited at the moment. This is why I'm not eager to promote him even if he is batting >.300 mid-season (and there's an opening), because you'd like him to get comfortable enough at hitting singles that eventually he can open up his approach and try to hit the ball with some authority.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) That explains why he got killed in his last start. No difference between the change and heat. Indeed. Looks like he always throws some fast changeups, but he forgot to throw any slow ones last time out. Pair that with slower than normal two seamers and you have you trouble.
  9. I will insist to myself that anyone can win the NBA title simply by getting in and getting hot, like other sports.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) I'd like to win the lottery. Been there, done that
  11. Money has little to do with it in this case -- they are far more moved by votes, and they perceive many votes at stake when you vote anything that deals with restricting one's ability to acquire guns.
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 02:48 PM) This is a very important start for Sale. If he doesn't have his velocity back up to 92-93, I think we should all be very very concerned. For visualization purposes, first pic is speed chart for 4/1, second is 4/7, third is 4/13 More two seamers and very few four seams in his latest start, but there doesn't seem to be a different in velocity between the two pitches so that wouldn't explain it. Hopefully just a blip.
  13. Not a big deal to put PK in front of Dunn, because PK's speed isn't a factor when Dunn hits. You can be as slow as you want when there is a HR, BB, or K.
  14. I have to think Trestman's offense would be great running two TE sets, especially when the two TEs are WR-type talents catching the football. If they think Eifert is an All-Pro type of player, I can't blame them for taking him at 20. We're in a position where there is no position that HAS to be drafted for us to have a starter, so if the ND TE is by far the BPA, then take him.
  15. Did ANYONE on this board think that the NY Post was EVER correct about any reports?
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) It isn't as common as you would think. Neighborhoods spring up around dangerous places all of the time. Many times it happened before ordinances went on to the books, or there just aren't rules against it. There are all kinds of homes near the state prison in my hometown. I doubt it explodes, but some people regretted it in the 1970s when prison riots led to max security prisoners running around the town.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) I've read two threads this morning and apparently we have two mini, potential Johan clones? This is still soxtalk right? LOL these are my thoughts as well.
  18. Hey, at least we didn't give him Jayson Werth cash

  20. If Axelrod continues to do okay, I'll be all hunky dory about Hector dominating in strange bullpen usage
  21. Q has gone from Buehrle to Johan in a hot minute
  22. POTUS pretty candid in his anger over the failure of this bill
  23. I'm a little confused -- how much mail sent to the POTUS would ever get anywhere near his desk? Why would someone send him poison to kill the POTUS himself?
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) Well, you can't assume that laws will be made to allow government to access private pictures. That's a big assumption. Yeah, there's no way that wouldn't require a warrant
  25. Quite a bit of overreaction about Hawk's talk about sabermetrics. He's obviously not going to wholly understand them since most people don't, and he's frustrated with the over-reliance on advanced statistics nowadays. I think the general sentiment that the explanatory power of advanced statistics is overstated is in fact a correct sentiment to hold.
