  1. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 07:58 PM) Hudson barely got him at 2nd. That was really really close. That one was actually a good, ballsy play -- had the potential to save us a run (or cost us one if it didn't work) So who plays third if not Hudson? We could call Renteria in like we originally planned, but this stuff will get embarrassing for the organization if we keep bringing in players off the street. More embarrassing than an erratic, light hitting 3B. I actually think the best option I've heard yet is Mark Teahen...I just don't think Kenny is willing to make the same mistake twice
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 07:51 PM) Maybe Viciedo WOULD be better at 3B if we actually had someone who could play LF competently and ALSO contribute offensively. But still a horrible idea. I'm as close to a Hudson backer as you can have on this site, but I think Danks/Fukudome would both play LF better than Hudson has played 3B and it would be significantly better. Whether DV would play better at 3B is a whole 'nother story
  3. So does this make Peavy mentally weak?
  4. It was a good AB by Hudson until he didn't hit it hard. The dude could write a textbook on how to work a pitcher without getting a hit
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) Everytime I see the thread title, I think of Manny Puig. This is a good thing. lol, same
  6. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2012/06/19/rangers...-on-air-moment/ WOAH. Something tells me Hawk ain't far off from something like this. That's what we call a stroke in progress. I feel bad for laughing
  7. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) Get fit or die tryin I drank more than enough water. Made a little sense to me at first, but ya, not trying to make weight over here for a fight or anything so in the end it was dumb and over with lol It's all good, we all start somewhere. Some day you'll be looking down on your abs and laughing about this day
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 03:22 PM) You're overheating your body for no reason. You're only losing water weight and not really burning off any fat. I don't recommend doing that again in the future. You're not a boxer trying to make weight for a fight. This. What you're doing DOES lower weight, but not in any functional way. You'll gain it back shortly after you stop rubbing preparation H all over yourself. You're trying to lower FAT here, not WEIGHT. Dropping water weight is temporary, anti-performance, and dangerous.
  9. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) Just mowed the lawn in a trash bag and hoody with my gut covered in hemroid cream and wrapped in plastic wrap...Sweats even drenched my shorts, looks like i wet myself....legit way to lose some lbs??? or dumb as hell Sweating your ass off will make you weigh less, but it will be fleeting and has rapidly diminishing returns. You have no need to shed that water weight.
  10. I still believe an >90 mph sinker is a big enough weapon that you start him in AAA. What's asinine to me is that the Jays thought he'd ever be a reliever. You don't cultivate a sinking fastball in the bullpen. He has a decent change and curve, but his command of those pitches is inconsistent. His command overall yesterday became wildly inconsistent after he got out of relief pitcher territory in pitch count. If you can get consistency in his fastball movement and some command of the offspeed in AAA, we'll see him again. If he doesn't do those things, we'll never hear his name again. No harm in trying to build the next Jon Garland in AAA
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 01:32 PM) Thornton was ruined by the closer experiment. I think Father Time is the biggest culprit
  12. I pick Humber over Axelrod for now. If you're going to replace Humber with someone, do it with Castro (ie someone with talent) I will confess I probably would have said just about the same about Quintana, but at least Q was young. If Axelrod wants to do what Q did, which is earn a rotation spot when he gets a chance in the bullpen that's fine with me
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 09:31 AM) I'm with you. Watching UNC games at the end last season, he would have like 17 points and I couldn't remember them. Just never stood out as much as he should have. Reminds me of Luol Deng. You'll watch the game, hardly notice anything, but he'll have a great stat line at the end. If you look hard, you do notice he's playing good defense...not sure about Barnes' defense though.
  14. Puig's lack of playing time in the last year+ ought to drive his price down from Soler, despite the fact by all accounts he's a better prospect.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) Even if he gets out on the floor, he won't "be back" for a long time. Just write him off until 2013-2014. We all said that, and if we take Chris Paul as the example, I don't think all is lost. His year back from the ACL injury was not quite Chris Paul-like, but he was still a damn productive point guard. If we can get 90% production from Derrick, this team is still good and it might make him better between the ears to have to play without full physical abilities for a while
  16. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 07:48 AM) Banned nutritional supplement. Not PEDs. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,7716486.column It was probably steroids. At that point in time GNC was still selling oral steroids which was confusing the hell out of everyone since salesmen wouldn't even know what they were telling you to buy
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 08:16 AM) At this point, the 3b issue is the least of our problems. How about we find a guy that can pitch? Third base really isn't that big of a problem. His defense is adequate and probably equal to most of the big bats we could bring in at that position. Of course, Orlando's defense actually has plenty of upside to get better unlike some of the Youkilis types of players. I also think that O-Dog plays better defense than Mark Teahen. It'd be great to get his bat (or any 3B bat) going, but this team is going as far as Gavin Floyd, Phil Humber, Jose Quintana, and our AA/AAA rotations will take us. Unless Floyd/Humber catch fire something like right now, it would be a waste of prospects to acquire a short term 3B
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 07:27 AM) Yep. Knowing there was an issue, versus his velocity just being down makes me feel better about Danks future. Absolutely, I still had a sneaking fear that it was a torn labrum which would have likely ended his career (hello Michael Pineda) despite ptatc calming me down. This sounds like it may have healed up by now if we knew about it from the get go and didn't have him taking such an active rest
  19. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) I'm really not an asshole, so I hope it doesn't come off like I am, but I think the father of Aimee Copeland (the girl with the flesh eating bacterial infection) needs to just stop. Maybe I just have a cynical view of people, but this has seemingly evolved (devolved?) into less about her and more about him (or something of the sort) over the course of things. Whatever it is, he's turned it into a spectacle. I feel really awful for the girl, but way to portray her as the essence of purity and all that is fair when you're dropping lines like that... There's no way Lifetime hasn't approached him about turning this into a movie, but they themselves would probably try to tone it down a bit with the sugar and spice and everything nice fairy tales. It's really unfortunate that this happened to her, but painting it as the greatest injustice suffered by a family ever is the wrong way to go about it. At least she's fortunate enough to be getting treatment. I'm sure there is a good number of people even here in America- forget about the traditionally poverty-stricken nations- that don't make it that far. I tried to do some research, but I don't see the Dad being involved much beyond speaking for the daughter since she's incapacitated. She's taking pain meds now apparently. Whenever I hear the word "holistic" followed by anything medicine/health related, I quit listening. What a waste. I'm all for studying what your heart desires, but that's just stupid
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 11:43 PM) It's all about UNC's style of play. Kendall Marshall was an incredible pg last year, and Zeller was one of the best post player in the country. However, that team needed Henson's defense to anchor their fast break style. Barnes was just a gunner for them, and never once last year did I watch him and think "this guy is going to be a star in the NBA" I'm with you, felt the same way since I saw him playing in HS. Hardly even stood out back then
  21. Jake replied to flavum's topic in FutureSox Board
Bruney could have started against the Cubs today and Soxtalk would have been far happier
  22. I don't think the organization was thinking about signing a FA backup 3B since we weren't supposed to contend and there were no particular reasons to think Morel would get hurt, excepting some kind of curse on White Sox third basemen. Moving Dayan to third was certainly worth talking about and not necessarily worth doing, though I'm curious what informed the coaching staff that he can't do it since so few of them ever saw him play there at any level (Manto perhaps the most)
  23. The summary here is that it sounds bad, isn't as bad as it sounds, but none of us know how bad it is I think he'll be fine, maybe it'll be a blessing in disguise as our starters will likely make it more clear which belong and which don't
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) Forgive me for being so mad I could punch the wall. I feel we CONCEDED tonight's game against a fellow Chicago team in OUR PARK by pitching Zach. God I'm mad. Just as many runs surrendered by the bullpen, reprimand Nate Jones
  25. It's like Hawk whispers into the ears of every Sox pitcher, "this guy kills us man"
