  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 22, 2012 -> 07:22 PM) Dunn needs to stop doing that. he got completely f***ed there, no chance he can touch that pitch
  2. Did anyone see the clip of Hudson talking in the locker before the game? Holy s*** that guy talks fast, I hardly heard anything he said.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 22, 2012 -> 05:47 PM) He said he wants to die in the booth lol I know...that was a riot. I love him but I wouldn't even be sad if he died in the middle of a home run call. Would be too epic
  4. If you're looking for some magically insightful announcer, keep looking. There are none. Once you know as much as many of us Soxtalkers do, nobody's going to really blow your mind with insight. Most announcers end up stating the extremely obvious when trying to be insightful or just say asinine things ("Dunn hit a home run at Wrigley, but it was wind-aided"). I say just shut up and repeat the interesting stats the behind the scenes guys give you. The best broadcaster is going to accurately give you a feel for the ebb and flow of the energy in the game. I think Hawk does that. Play by play is not really relevant in this medium, and Hawk knows that and brings some fun to it. Stoney is about as insightful as it gets and rarely has more than one non-obvious thing to say in a given game. Unrealistic standards...and I think it has more to do with overexposure than anything else. Every "average" fan I speak to loves Hawk and I doubt you see him go unless it is on his own terms.
  5. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ May 22, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) The "potential" part is the killer though because legitimate big men that can score down low, rebound and defend are about as common as World Series banners in Chicago. You mean it might be difficult to find a suitable replacement for Carlos Boozer? blasphemy!
  6. He still entertains me. Every other broadcast team I've listened to (many, but not all by any means) pales in comparison to the Hawk + anyone for me. I'll say that this year it seems that he has spared us from much of the reminiscing from way back when. He has also been friendly to umpires, which is new. He is the only broadcaster I've watched that can do something other than be white noise without completely annoying me. It's like watching the game with an older Sox fan. Every time I am forced to watch a national broadcast, I am reminded why I prefer the Hawk. If you want bad broadcasting, turn on your radio. You'd never know anything was happening with Ed Farmer on the air. Home run? Thanks for the change of inflection (not). My favorite is how he mentions how useful a home run would be before every batter, then tells you after a home run he called it.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 22, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) This makes no sense. I'm okay with it. Keeping DV down there until he shows more consistency. After a month of awesome performance he can start creeping up the order. If he's going to hit, the bottom of that order doesn't look nearly as bad....especially if Alexei produces, which I really feel like is about to happen. Sad about no O-Dog
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 22, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) If the Bulls dealt Boozer for say, Turkoglu, then Hedo becomes a giant expiring the year Harden is a RFA (which also happens to be another nice FA class, that could re-feature LeBron) and with Deng being an expiring as well...the Bulls could make cap room. This wouldn't be a next year move. Why not just amnesty Booz instead of trade???
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 22, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) this is a disgrace. Ozzie won a world series as manager. what did orlando hudson ever do? I hope Orlando Hudson blows up in kennys face. He is not an allstar player and he cant where that jersey number. kenny is disrespecting Ozzie here. that number should be retired. I just don t see why hudson has to wear Ozzies number. HAHAHAHHAHAHAH
  10. I like this signing. You get a former all-star, .800 OPS type player in a position of need that is not far removed from some pretty productive seasons. Was a >1 WAR player last year, even. If he doesn't produce, can't field, is an asshole, etc. you have spent and committed nothing. You can cut him in a couple weeks and pretend you were just looking for a stop-gap while Brent Morel was healing.
  11. A lie detector test can literally be tampered by use of your sphincter
  12. AFAIK, if you're a distance runner it is worth investing into some good clothing. I'm not a runner though, so I don't know which are good and which are just hyped.
  13. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 21, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) He's going by Joe for a while to see if it helps get some wins. So far, so good. Matt Thornton is the clean shaven, well-kept, slimmer guy that used to pitch for us. Joe Thorton is this scruffy, long haired, beer gut dude that's been tossing for the pale hose.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 18, 2012 -> 10:33 PM) Actually, I checked the box score, it wasn't the next time Heyward came up. He hit a homer in the 2nd, grounded out on 4 pitches in the 4th, then got hit with the first pitch in the 7th. No idea what type of pitch it was or how it looked. First pitch fastball hit him in the back. The catcher set up outside, never moved to try and catch it. Clearly meant to hit him in that case. The catcher always gives it away.
  15. I don't hate Dan Johnson, but I don't like the idea of having a guy that can only pinch hit and play first base. Really cripples your bench because he can't do anything but hit. He COULD play LF or maybeee 3B but then you're s***ting on your late inning defense. To say Fuku can't hit it past the pitcher's mound is kind of unfair, he's hit better than yesterday and better than his numbers suggest...but he's clearly not accustomed to a bench role. I don't like getting rid of him just yet though, especially when the alternative is so one dimensional.
  16. I wonder if Kosuke has any trade value. The backup thing doesn't seem to be working out, but he's been a decent everyday player. Might be a throw-in or net you a real young guy for a team in need of a LF/RF
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ May 21, 2012 -> 09:10 AM) Week ahead: T: Walters vs Floyd W: Diamond vs Sale R: Pavano (maybe) vs Humber F: Gomez vs Danks S: Lowe vs Peavy S: Jimenez vs Floyd Probably Moore vs Sale next Monday. And Shields vs Humber Tuesday. Further out, it looks like Felix Hernandez vs Danks on June 1. I wouldn't be sad to see the Sox flip Peavy and Danks. The schedule sets up to skip somebody on June 4 (the off day), and then the final week before the break could have Peavy pitch Sunday before the break instead of Danks. I'd rather have Peavy get another start and miss the All Star Game. Wow, those are some good looking matchups for the White Sox. I really selfishly want to see Peavy bulldogging it at the All-Star game, honestly. I'm trying to jam 3 years of memories into this season, so I need an epic All-Star game from him. He's got to be in the running to start the game, right?
  18. What were your guys' reactions when it first happened? I was honestly pretty scared, especially after seeing guys like Derrick Rose suffer a terrible injury and even recalling Urlacher's disgusting injury in game 16. You would have thought it was my first born son getting hit with a baseball the way I reacted.
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 20, 2012 -> 10:56 PM) He will only play 2012 with the Sox just like Fukedome his option will not be picked up.. I'd say that he already has a slightly better chance than Jake Peavy to be a 2013 White Sox. He just has to have a career average year and we'd probably keep him around.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 20, 2012 -> 10:24 PM) .500 right now is not that bad. Seems like they usually play pretty well between now and the ASG. If they can get 4-5 games up on .500 at the break, it will be a successful first half. They're going to fade in the stretch (not enough horsepower) but if they can finish .500 for the year, it's not a bad year. We don't fade down the stretch You must be unfamiliar with Mr. September, Brent Morel
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2012 -> 07:47 PM) http://www.suntimes.com/sports/cowley/1264...ont-get-it.html On the beaning incident, mostly filled with Jake Peavy quotes I can't argue with this article, because he didn't try to make a point.
