Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox
I have to think that we can get Youk for less than Thornton. I say send them Thornton and make them pay ALL the Youk contract, that would be a sweet deal that opens up a ton of money for us.

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox
QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 02:35 PM) From that same Twitter account #RedSox Kevin Youkilis on the trade: "I knew my time in Boston was over; that I wasn't part of the future here anymore." That twitter account has two tweets and 8 followers. Sounds non-legit.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) Can't deny I'm happy to see the end of Thornton n a White Sox uniform replacement be damned. #mentalmidget He might be the best non-closing relief pitcher we've ever had, though he certainly is regressing as he is pretty old now

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) ...blech. I hope it was ALL the cash. If it was all the cash, that would be a pretty good deal.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 02:29 PM) He was also really protected. He was is in no high pressure situations. Think DJ Carrasco. Bruney = fine for Zach Stewart's role but little else

Is this legit? This is the most I would have given up without being angry. Leyson Septimo anyone?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 12:52 PM) Well then, if Phil Rogers said that, then the Dodgers will get Youk lol at this point I think bucket-of-suck is our best resource by quite a bit

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 12:48 PM) Phil Rogers believes it will be Thornton or Crain for Youk. Jesus that would be a losing deal at this point. I'd rather send Thornton out of the two but we're talking about a productive reliever for a guy that *might* produce and hasn't proved to anyone that he's healthy. Phil Rogers has been floating the Thornton idea for a while now so I'm not sure if he's just sticking to his guns or what.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
You also have to keep in mind that they were holding Derrick out of more games than they thought were absolutely necessary, trying to hedge their bets. This makes a big difference. Playing 35 minutes when you feel completely healed vs playing 20 when you feel like s*** are two different things.

Minor league pitchers encourage Sox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) If Septimo can keep his walks down, he has the type of arm to be a lock down reliever. This is exactly who I've been wondering about. Left-handed Nate Jones anyone?

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 10:10 AM) Who would replace Viciedo? The kid has shown some flashes of being a real good player, but I might agree a Grienke, if signed to a long term commitment with the Sox would be ok with me. Maybe Jordan Danks can play in LF, or we go after Quentin and get him back from SD. I actually think our system is most able to replace LF'er over any other position. Danks would be MLB caliber at the least for right now, and Jared Mitchell could be ready next season. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 10:34 AM) Yes, deplete the offense by trading away a young power hitter. This remains key though. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) I still think Josh Fields would help, and he would not cost much if anything. Sox should not be hung up on defensive shortcomings from 3-4 yrs ago. At least scout him to see if he has improved. At least he can hit more than a little bit. You say that as if you know that the White Sox haven't scouted him and every other 3B they can imagine getting their hands on. I have a feeling they have invested more time and scouting talent into this than we have behind our keyboards. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:14 AM) The last thing the Brewers need is a power hitting corner outfielder. If they trade Greinke, they will want pitching back. Great point, the first poster considering the needs of the Brewers QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) AAA numbers for guys like Jackson and Johnson are meaningless. Dan Johnson hasn't hit over .200 in the major leagues in 5 years. Josh Fields is hitting .331 in AAA after hitting .365 in AAA last year before stinking up the joint in Japan. Why don't they just pick him up? He can play LF equally as bad as he plays 3B. The interesting thing to me is that Conor Jackson has hardly ever hit poorly at the MLB level. Never quite had the ideal power numbers and AFAIK is not a good defender, but his MLB hitting stats are really pretty nice. IIRC his MLB career was cut very short by an illness.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Well a victory would help us out for sure. If we sent down Zach for Dylan then Dylan had better be better Dylan's leash on the MLB roster will be short unless Simon Castro gets shelled in Charlotte.

I'd rather pay handsomely for a third baseman than a starting pitcher. How many aces do you need? A Greinke-type trade gives you three plus Danks who is a damn solid 2, plus Floyd who has pitched like a nice 2 before and could certainly make himself into the best 5 in baseball. And I'm not even mentioning lights out Quintana. We have lots of starting pitchers and several more starting pitchers I'd try out from the MiLB before I'd say we have a legit problem there. Trading for a long term option at 3B would make more sense since 1. Brent Morel was never going to be a star even if healthy and meeting potential and 2. We may never see Brent Morel again and have no real 3B in the MiLB Or we can stand pat/make a minor move and not rid ourselves of the few young players of value that we have. Try to let the talented players on the MLB roster play well.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) I'd target Greinke too since it's likely the biggest spenders won't. A top 3 of Sale, Greinke, and Danks pitching at or near their potential just about guarantees contention in the AL Central at the very least. I watched Greinke's post game interview last name and he reminds me of a socially awkward 13 year old. But then he pitches and he reminds you of [insert Cy Young award winner here, oh wait he already is one] Does anyone worry about those emotional issues he had a long time ago? To some extent I'm sympathetic to these things and I know you can walk away from those situations stronger than before, but I can't help but wonder especially since this would be his first big market experience.

Bobby Jenks and Bsox about to part ways
QUOTE (Wedge @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:05 AM) Too soon LOL I remember the last years with Bobby. He wasn't terrible, but he just wasn't reliable. He started trying to pitch like a starting pitcher, throwing a slower fastball, screwing around with a bunch of different pitches and it all just blew up in his face. I remember how it became a legitimate topic on the news and post game shows about why he hadn't seen his curveball and why his fastball had gotten slower. He was my AAP so I love him

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:23 AM) If Danks comes back healthy, and Humber returns healthy and his struggles were related to his elbow, the rotation is easily good enough to win the Central. Without these 2 and Floyd pitching like he belongs in A ball most of the year, they are 1/2 game out. This. The last thing I want us to do is gut our franchise for a starting pitcher right now.

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 12:57 AM) Taking on at least some of his contract or give up quality potential which Kenny does NOT want to do. I'm still confused on whether we're taking on the whole contract and sending a bogus prospect over or whether we're sending a slightly better player over to get salary relief.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 11:14 PM) FWIW, Hearing Youk may be coming for prospect and cash. Could go down this weekend. We're sending out EXTRA cash to bring in Youk? Or am I reading that wrong.

Humber DL, Fukudome DFA, Bruney recalled
I'm guessing it's a partial truth. I'd say it's something that may have cleared up on its own, but was just kind of nagging and with the way he's been pitching it isn't worth it to push anything. They probably felt this way about Danks until he really didn't heal up.
