If Edwin gets through this inning scoreless, you can't call it a bad outing.

Would we have benched him if we had another OF on the bench?

At least run you son of a b****

Good time to bust out here Rios

Brent does look the other way a lot, and that's great, especially as he's still making the MLB adjustment. You won't hit for as much power with that type of approach all the time, but it's much easier to rack up some hits and gain some confidence. You get that extra fraction of a second to see the ball and decide swing or not, etc. Over the years, I've noticed that whenever Paulie breaks out of a slump, he tends to be looking the other way for a few games. He'll get some hits staying inside the ball, then get aggressive again and hit it with more authority (sometimes with authority the other way).

You know what my eye sees... nobody hitting Humber very hard, very often. On another note, I can think of a guy that throws a slow fastball that doesn't move very much. But his is 85. Yeah, that's Buehrle. Mark Buehrle has this biggest s*** repertoire ever and does just so well. Straight, slow fastball. Straight changeup that by conventional wisdom is often too fast compared to his fastball. Cutter moves, but not much. Big loopy curveball. I must assume that the first three must all look exactly the same out of the hand, or else he wouldn't have this type of success. But moreover, the dude puts it exactly where he wants it. Humber throws better stuff (literally every single pitch that he throws is better than Buehrle's equivalent) and, for now, he knows where it's going. I'd say him and AJ are on the same page (or at least the right page) so he's making the most out of pretty decent stuff.

Alexei for MVP ...okay no. But really, get that Silver Slugger/GG combo son.

It's okay to take a chance on contracts if you can come up with league minimum guys that can perform - Humber, Lillibridge, Santos come to mind quickly. Jury is out on Beckham, Morel, Viciedo (not league minimum, but you get the idea). Even a really cheap Omar has helped out. Some of these under the radar moves may make up for the flops. If I had to choose one guy that would turn it around though, I think Dunn is most likely to do so.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) Somehow this will still cost Brent morel playing time "Now pinch hitting, Mark Buehrle" -
I was trying to wait and have a late lunch whenever the game got over... Damn it.

That's a pretty nice adjustment by Bautista. Not a bad pitch, but you have realize that he knows your plan is to use all offspeed. Get a fastball inside there.

First inning - 90 mph fastball for home run Second inning - 88 mph nasty slider on the corner followed my 96 mph fastball

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) Gordon's shiner. It seems like whenever the Sox are having fun, Mark Buehrle is around.

There aren't a lot of guys that have the look of a baseball player more than Jayson Nix.

QUOTE (southsidepride15 @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) Well, I tried. Let's leave that to the experts.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:46 PM) How about Adam Dunn shows up? He made contact already, lay off.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) I thought you were just making fun of the lineup we had out there today by saying you forgot to add Lillibridge into the group of "awful" players we have out there.. if not, nice Eh it was some of both. Making fun because he is in fact the stealth elf but at the same time has been giving us some flashes of power. Pure joke would be Pierre, who is not going to hit a home run.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) nice premonition, see what just happened? fixed

QUOTE (Jake @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:39 PM) You forgot...Lillibomb I'd like to point out I posted that before the homer. Go me

QUOTE (fathom @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) I'm just stunned that the lineup we have out there today is supposed to be a contender in the American League. No power outside of the 2/3/4. We have a team where the catcher and third base positions provide no power either, and the left fielder would have maybe 4 homers in Little League. You forgot...Lillibomb

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) Dunn? HOF consideration? Surely you jest. The obligatory >500 HR talk.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 26, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) Dunn will bat 7th tomorrow. I'm okay with moving him down just so he's at the plate less. But you know they're going to say that they're doing so to allow him to see better pitches. I think that is so false. At this level, every single pitcher knows who Adam Dunn is, they know his trends, etc. He gets pitched the same way no matter where he is. Anyways, sorry Adam, you made us do this.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) Why does everyone hate Morel now that he's hitting? He's hitting .300 in May. Send him down, that's too good! Same thing we did to BA after his brutal first half, just kept benching him for Mackowiak because the memory of his bad first half endured. I still wonder what could have been if he would have gotten consistent at bats in that delicate time early in his career. Anyways, learn your lesson! Leave the kid there. Right now, there's no place for DV. Sorry, I'm willing to put up with 150 games of Dunn struggling because I know it's just not going to last. It literally never happens like this. He's a few career average seasons away from HOF consideration. I know he'll turn it around, it just sucks that it's taking so long. I don't mind giving him more days off, but giving up is not the way to go. He's a guy that would actually benefit from a simulated game. It would be great if he could see some game type pitches without pressure. Let him pound some full speed pitching in practice so he remembers how to do it, you know.
