Chris Sale is now the CLOSER?!/Until he's not (Update)
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 5, 2012 -> 08:42 PM) I think Nate Jones has been pretty good, but iirc he had a lot of control issues in the minors. I would rather Reed do the job that he did all through college. Yeah it's great that Jones has been able to put things together, I wouldn't actually push him into the closer's role even if there weren't several people in front of him. His stuff is unbelievable though, it's easy to see why they let him flounder as a starter for so long.

2012 NFL Draft Thread
Have to wonder how much the starters played in Boise's blowouts, not to mention the fact I am sure in many of these non-competitive games they weren't being very aggressive with pass rush.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 5, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) I was yelling to take him out the entire time. How the f*** could you not tell he couldn't run? I think they were just trying not to burn a timeout once it was clear he wasn't okay.

Chris Sale is now the CLOSER?!/Until he's not (Update)
QUOTE (Cali @ May 5, 2012 -> 08:30 PM) Addison Reed should be the closer. He got tossed into the fire and came out clean. Might have only been one batter, but 97mph gas? Yes please. Nate Jones and his 98mph fastball AND superior offspeed pitches have something to say about that

Hector has decent secondary pitches but by and large hasn't located them out of the bullpen. That one outing they were for s*** in the zone and it was clear that he was trying to ease them over the plate, giving them away. This is the type of thing lifetime starters deal with when going to the bullpen - short warmup, no mulligan first inning to "find" all your pitches, etc.

We're set up to have a dynamite pen for a while now. I really think Hector should be starting though. He has a starter's repertoire, and good stuff for a starting pitcher. It seems like the adjustment to the bullpen has been difficult and certainly unnecessary now that Sale is our closer for the indefinite future.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 5, 2012 -> 06:07 PM) Biggest hit of Dunns White Sox career right there. THAT is what team leaders do. When the team is down and out the big guys step up and put the team on their backs. HUGE WIN! It's nice to win a big game on the strength of our 3-4 hitters.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2012 -> 06:03 PM) Breaks the string of poor results in Detroit. We're now 3-11 in our last 14 at Comerica. Tigers were 77-0 last year when leading after 7 innings, this year they've ALREADY lost 5 games. Doubt they continue that pace and lose 27 for the entire season, but that's a difference most of us expected with Valverde being 49/49 last year in saves converted. And Floyd, ever since we acquired him, has been best against the Tigers of all AL teams. Tigers and Boston stick out to me as teams he pitches well against. Interesting since they are always so good offensively.

Name Reed the closer? lol, Sale is the closer. But good for Reed, glad he got it done. Hector started the inning because of the lefties, they didn't want Reed's first save opp to be against LHB. I praise RV for knowing when to pull Hector though. and WTF Gordon? I can't even think of a reason he didn't cover second base. That changed everything. Anyways, very important win. THIS SEASON IS NOT OVER

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 5, 2012 -> 05:38 PM) Evern his last success was a nail biter whe he walked two and gave up a single even though he managed to get out of it. No one really put good wood on him though. Infield single and two walks. Guys looked bad against his fastball, actually

I can't stand watching Benoit pitch. Also, has Kosuke ever spent much time as a bench player? Trying to see if that's the problem, just sample size, or something else. I personally would rather see Escobar get hacks over Morel, but his ceiling is of course even lower than Morel's. Morel just has had a ton of time and has shown without a doubt that he is not a major league player through 200+ games. Escobar is more deserving of 30 games rather than another 30 for Morel. I don't mind calling up McPherson, though I'd prefer Jackson if he was hitting at all in AAA

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 5, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) I watch every game. Beginning to end. He's 5/36 with a bunch of groundballs to the left side and harmless flyballs/pop-ups to the right side and center. I haven't noticed a bunch of hard outs for Rios, granted I don't keep a running tally of the quality of his outs. It's just 36 at bats though, we don't have to lose our minds just yet.

That throw wasn't good, but Paulie looked like s***. That idiot McCarver acting like no one could stay on the base, but I'd imagine someone with any flexibility in their legs/tall guy could have stayed on there. Oh well, sets up DP

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 5, 2012 -> 04:59 PM) Rios average continuing to take a nose-dive down below .280. 5 for his last 36. He's been a carbon-copy of last season for the last 9 games. They started to catch on that he was going the opposite field so much and started pitching him like a push hitter. He responded by pulling everything weakly like he did last year.

RV said the leading candidate to close today is Hector, who he does not plan to stretch out to become a starting pitcher.
