  3. What are the other terms? When it says its something other soda, pop, or coke?
  4. All the perspective is in the chat room.
  5. But hey, Swish is a much better hitter than most of our lineup.
  6. Well my mom got to know Clay Aiken at one point in time in working for his charity, and I believe they spoke on the phone a few times. My mom got to be very good friends with his mother. My mom also appeared on Oprah, and Oprah sent a limo to our house to pick her up for the show. I wouldn't say she knows Oprah though.
  7. QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 08:18 AM) They aren't licensed so the Sox can't sell them. Try Triple Threat Sports. Been seeing you around a lot more often lately. It's nice to have your contributions back at Soxtalk.
  8. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Vazquez starting Saturday on 3 days rest eliminates the need for a 6th starter, Broadway will be making his start on Sunday as the 5th starter in place of Richard. You're right, so I guess Richard forced our hand to go with the next guy.
  9. I guess our hand is pretty forced to use a 6th starter due to the rain out.

    What do i do?

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) So now i basically f***ed everything up. I hooked up with a girl last night, and i just told her about it. I guess that was pretty wrong to do, but if she didnt really have the feelings i had for her why should she feel so upset about it? But she's just told me that everything is over between us. Wow, just f***. I think you probably made the right choice. You're going on as she suggested you do and the majority of us suggested, and as others said this might make her realize what she's missing. Could be an example of not knowing what she has until it's gone. Don't bank on this though, keep going on with life and if a girl you like comes along, be with her.
  11. Let BA play as a regular, just once. He has never had that opportunity. Even in his "full season," he could hardly string 3 consecutive games together. Let the kid play for a while, you might like what you get with some consistent AB's.
  12. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) OK but wouldnt you rather have Juan pierre getting on base at a better clip? Well I'd like every hitter to walk whenever he doesn't hit. Nick Swisher walks instead of hitting.
  13. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) No it isn't, and the Shawon Dunstons, Alex Sanchezs, and Juan Pierres of the world show that time and time again. OBP tells how often a player doesn't make an out. Batting average doesn't. Slugging percentage gives a strong idea how much power a player posseses. Batting average doesn't. Each has its strength. The bottom line is that players need to get hits. However, Swish is a prime example of how OBP fools people into thinking someone is a good hitter. I will take a Juan Pierre hit over a Nick Swisher walk. I would gladly replace Swish with 200 hit Juan Pierre. Really bad hitters can have really good slugging percentages, since it doesn't take into account how often you hit the ball.
  14. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) ok, thats fair if thats what you think, i just disagree, thats all..... ill respectfully say we have a differnce in opinions on what we value in our hitters...nothing wrong with that, i tend to think im right, just as im sure you tend to think you are right, no point in arguing it further That's fine. I'll take a lineup of .310 BA hitters and you can have .360 OBP guys.
  15. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:29 PM) Bulls*** again. Alex Sanchez is a career .296 "hitter" yet was released by the Tigers after "hitting" .322 in 2004. Was he a better hitter than Frank Thomas? I didn't say you know everything from batting average. You'd always like to have all numbers at your disposal, knowledge of defensive prowess and a player's talent. Batting average is still much more telling than OBP, which is the point I was making. It is rare to see a player bat .300 and not be able to say that he is a good hitter, or at least has hit well.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) Agreed, and when we make trades to try and add speed, we end up lowering the talent level of the squad (Lee for Pods) It's difficult to find those fast, fundamental, good hitting ballplayers. They tend to crash and burn for some reason. Dole out double digit millions on a power bat, and they seem to be more proven entities.
  17. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:25 PM) That's idiotic. A player who 1.5 times more likely to get on base than make an out isn't "good enough." How do you know pitchers aren't scared s***less seeing the guy and he rarely gets a chance to hit something good? I was exaggerating about the .600 on base, obviously. Just saying, bottomline you need to hit the ball consistently to be a good major league baseball player.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) I know you are just making a point, but I would take a guy who hit .128 if he got on base at a .600 clip. Yeah, but I wouldn't want him up in crucial spots either.
  19. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) its a hell of a lot more telling than batting average.....and frankly this is fact, not even opinion No, it's not. It's useful, but only looking at on base tells you nothing. You can look at batting average and know a lot.
  20. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) this is all that i will say about this silly, silly arguement, but AJ, crede, Cabrera, Uribe have never had an obp of .343 in an entire season let alone had an obp of .343 while hitting 24 HRs, meanwhile swisher is having a down year and those are his #s.... in addition it doesnt appear as if ramirez will ever have an obp north of .330 either, but at least he hits extra base hits and appears as if he can hold a .330 obp (though im skeptical that he will continue to hit .300 in the future) OBP IS NOT THE SAME AS BATTING AVERAGE. Walks are really nice, I like hitters who take walks. But it looks like you are saying that Swish is a better hitter just because his OBP is higher. Walks don't drive in runs. Those players are without question better hitters than Swish (other than Uribe) until Swish bats .260. He's just no good right now, .228 with a .600 on base isn't good enough. You have to be able to hit to be good.
  21. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) Uribe (and crede when he was healthy), AJ, cabrera, are all inferior hitters....in addition konerko has been roughly equivalent, and probably a tad worse this year...and alexei is similar IMO Other than Uribe, those are all better hitters than swisher.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) His Arb clock isn't an issue, anyone who says otherwise is either full of s*** or knows nothing about the process. Agreed. I'd like to see him up here.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) Yeah, not even mad at him for that, as at least he took a pitch and had a good approach. A lot of hate for OC on Soxtalk, but he has the most fundamental approach at the plate of any Sox hitter.
