QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) Is that as close as it's going to get to a mea culpa for continuing to perpetuate a long-debunked rumor as if it was a fact? If so, that is a shame. Apologize? To the likes of you on an internet message board? Puh-leeze. It's politics. Bring your thick skin or go home. You liberals are adorable.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) The problem with stories like these and the Obama madrassa story is that a lot of people will only remember reading the initial report and take it as true. They won't see that its completely bunk. If this is the nugget that pushes one over the edge to not vote for Hillary, he or she should have their voting privileges taken away. That decision could and should easily be made on her own public merits.

The Rest Of the Story By Paul Harvey THIS IS AN EYE-OPENER! Conveniently Forgotten Facts. Back in 1969 a group of Black Panthers decided that a fellow black panther named Alex Rackley needed to die. Rackley was suspected of disloyalty. Rackley was first tied to a chair. Once safely immobilized, his friends tortured him for hours by, among other things, pouring boiling water on him. When they got tired of torturing Rackley, Black Panther member, Warren Kimbro took Rackley outside and put a bullet in his head. Rackley's body was later found floating in a river about 25 miles north of New Haven, Connecticut. Perhaps at this point you're curious as to what happened to these Black Panthers? In 1977 (only eight years later), only one of the killers was still in jail. The shooter, Warren Kimbro, managed to get a scholarship to Harvard and became good friends with none other than Al Gore. He later became an assistant dean at an Eastern Connecticut State College. Isn't that something? As a '60s radical you can pump a bullet into someone's head and a few years later, in the same state, you can become an assistant college dean! Only in America! Erica Huggins was the woman who served the Panthers by boiling the water for Mr. Rackley's torture. Some years later Ms. Huggins was elected to a California School Board. How in the world do you think these killers got off so easily? Maybe it was in some part due to the efforts of two people who came to the defense of the Panthers. These two people actually went so far as to shut down Yale University with demonstrations in defense of the accused Black Panthers during their trial. One of these people was none other than Bill Lan Lee. Mr. Lee, or Mr. Lan Lee, as the case may be, isn't a college dean. He isn't a member of a California School Board. He is now head of the United States Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, appointed by none other than Bill Clinton. O.K., so who was the other Panther defender? Is this other notable Panther defender now a school board member? Is this other Panther apologist now an assistant college dean? No, neither! The other Panther defender was, like Lee, a radical law student at Yale University at the time. She is now known as The "smartest woman in the world." She is none other than the Democratic senator from the State of New York---- our former First Lady, the incredible Hillary Rodham Clinton! And now, as Paul Harvey said; "You know the rest of the story". Remember this story when Hillary runs for Presidency of our great nation!

Chief Illiniwek.....HE GONE!!!
AddisonStSox replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) I didn't even apply to go to Illinois, and chose NIU in part because I had 2 family members that live in Chicago diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of my senior year of high school, but thanks for playing the "I'll try to use a personal shot to piss somebody off" game. And if your ACTUALLY upset over this, yes your a moron. If you disagree with the double standard and don't like it like SnB and IlliniKrush, that's more than fair, but any other anger over this is silly. Quite frankly, I couldn’t care less what you have to say on this issue. What I would like to see is some consistency. If I see some overwhelming evidence from the six tribes that made up the loosely bound confederation of Illiniwek, I will gladly comply. If decedents from any one of the Peoria, Tamaroa, Moingwena, Michigamea, Kaskaskia, or Cahokia tribes come out and say they are deeply wronged by the sporting mascot of a collegiate institution, I can accept that. However, I have yet to see such evidence. In fact, the evidence that I have seen doesn’t seem to support these sentiments in the slightest. I simply can not comprehend how a Seminole Indian can throw a flaming spear at mid-field while on horseback and the University of Illinois can not have a mascot do a dance at halftime. And before we speak too much out of ignorance, every one of the students that have held the position of Chief Illiniwek (sometimes referred to as the Council of Chiefs, although there is really no such organization) spends a considerable amount of time on an Indian reservation learning about the heritage and customs that they will embody for the next calendar year. Will I lose sleep over this issue? Hell no. Am I upset that a group largely comprised of liberal professors and rich, White kids from Deerfield with nothing else to do has put an end to a belov’ed tradition at my institution? Yes. I do support the Illinois Drinkin’ Lincolns. Now, that would be a mascot we all could embrace. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 03:27 AM) Oh and who the hell are these morons that aren't going to donate to the University anymore because a drunk frat boy isn't going to dress like an Indian and dance, Cubs fans? It's an embarassment people that dumb are associated with the school, to be honest (and yes, I know your right this will cost them donors, sad but true). Don't hold it against the University of Illinois, its fans, or its donors that you were not accepted here. As far as I know, you have no ties to this institution and should not be speaking to this situation in the manner you are. Consider me a moron that is upset that a drunk, frat boy isn't going to dress like an Indian and dance. It's tradition and the last poll of Native Americans asked if they had a problem with Illiniwek that I saw offered no evidence that they overwhelmingly opposed to our drunken frat boy--quite the contrary. Go Huskies. -
I'll try to keep this on the front page for at least another week or two. If you are not yet in the league, but wish to join, please do. Bump.

Hey there Fantasy NASCAR'ers, I just wanted to gage your interest on a fantasy NASCAR league for this year's action. I want a chance to defend my title. Did anyone start one yet, and if not, does anyone want to get one going?

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) Ian it was in the context of a possible Soriano deal. For those doubting KW's statements, one thing he's been very consistent on ... he intends to ONLY add to this team. Not trade pieces already on the team, especially pitching. So now they've added Macdougal, gave up prospects. IMO if a Soriano deal happens, it will be a prospects deal. And I can certainly see the White Sox flipping Soriano (or Lee). Thanks. And, as always, we are in perfect agreement.
-
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) KW was just on the radio saying he had no intention of trading BMAC. How true this is i don't know. If you're of the Williams-believing ilk, I don't see why the move for MacDougal can not be ruled out as being involved in the Soriano deal. Although MacDougal appears a perfect fit for what the 2006 bullpen is looking for down the stretch, I don't see any reason to believe he can't or won't be involved in another deal--perhaps the larger of the deals.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) KW on the radio right now, says McCarthy is going nowhere. Jim, can you put that into context? I realize that is pretty self-explanatory, but, what exact question was asked of him? Exactly how did he use that useful little nugget?

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) actually i believe the words billy beane used when he signed thomas, was "hes the perfect portrait for our beliefs".....and the loaiza signing also made sense because billy beane knows the value of a 200+ inning pitcher DAMN, da. GMTA
-
QUOTE(G&T @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) So was signing Loaiza and an injured Frank Thomas. This move replaces Zito for a couple years (though not particularly well) and gives them an offensive piece for this year since Thomas is not always healthy. The Frank Thomas signing was the ultimate Billy Beane signing. A lifetime OPS of .991 for, what, $1M? Give me a break.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) depo is right....especially for a leftfielder Your damn right he is. I'm guessing my sabermetrics will prove this. Albert Belle is the poster-boy for this study.
-
QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Ever see Manny Ramirez? To quote Paul DePodesta: "The variance between the best and worst fielders on the outcome of a game is a lot smaller than the variance between the best hitters and worst hitters." I'm in the middle of an Albert Belle-esque study on how many more runs Alfonso Soriano brings to the team with his bat than grants the opposition with his glove. Methinks he is far more valuable in terms of runs scored than his defense would ever hint at.

Sox get Mike MacDougal for Tyler Lumsden and Daniel Cortes
AddisonStSox replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) I don't think I'll ever understand why people here spiff a brick when a "good" prospect is traded. If I had a dollar for all the SURE prospects that came into town and did absolutely nothing, I wouldn't need a job. Prospects are nothing more than prospects until they do something. Sing it. -

Jeremy Reed just called me. He said he hates this deal. -
Anyone else think Bowden may fancy MacDougal?
-
Bowden: "Kenny, it has to be either MacDougal or McCarthy. That is it." It happens all the time. The hapless Royals made similar requests in the Carlos Beltran deal. Things are par for the course.
-
Anyone else think Bowden may fancy MacDougal? The pot thickens.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) Score reported we just aqquired McDougal for 2 minor leaguers. Two suspects for a fromer first-round draft selection with a proven amateur career and a million-dollar arm? Thank you. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Is Williams working on his own verison of... "You fishing got to be kidding me." "Ring over Blanton?" It is a good feeling knowning the front office of your favorite franchise operates with a level of intelligence and insight far superior to the majority of the league. It wasn't always this way. This organization has come a long way.
-
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) but this teams shelf life ends in 2007, and mccarthy, while a big factor, figures largest post 2007, when we will likely not be as good as we are now (presuming of course we dont resign everyone) Don't think for one second the White Sox front office isn't playing to win now. Right now. 2006. Now. As you've said, the window closes after 2007 and while Williams has proven he knows how to effectively re-stock rather than re-build--averting a total collapse--he's playing for today. This season can easily go one of two ways at this point. While this trade would force Williams to re-work his three-year board, it works very nicely for his 2006 plans...that is, whether or not Soriano actually suits up for the White Sox.
