QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) Niners trade first round pick to Chargers for Phillip Rivers, Chargers then take Edwards with that pick. Thoughts? Makes a whole lot of sense to me. They could probably plug Rivers in as the starting quarterback immediately. The Niners don't have to make this move, but if they feel more comfortable with Rivers than either Rodgers or Smith, they should do it. Personally, I really like what Rivers brings to the table and I think he could do very well in SF. They really need the new face of the organization, Rivers could work.

Hmmmmmm...an ally in my crusade? Linky EDIT: Believe it or not, this guy actually gives a very logical and probable answer to this question. I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one to question this old chestnut.

So, I got to thinking today: why are they called a "pair" of pants? Does that mean each individual pant-leg is one, single "pant"? From this point forward, I propose we call a "pair" of pants, simply, pant. As in, "it's so cold out, I really have to find some warm pant." Disclaimer: This asinine observation is the product of a speech class during the first, gourgeous, seventy degree day of the season.

Prior: past steroid user?
AddisonStSox replied to Steve Bartman's my idol's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Absurd. Yes, it seems there is a suprisingly high number of pitchers (past or present) that have used steroids. But, to accuse a guy of steroid usage after lowering his pant-legs...please. -
QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) How does Buehrle look today? Was he as sharp as he was before? No, but it was expected. He just really looks like a guy making a start after some time off. I know that is stating the obvious, but that about sums it up. He looked fine, all things considered.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) The big difference this time is that the players now want it. Funny how your attitude changes when you lose your million dollar a year job to an 18 year old. We'll see if that makes a difference in a court of law. It might, but I just don't see it happening. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) Great story, that is sooo cool. BTW, Did you see Nick Smith? LOL. When we went to Michigan, we got High Fives from EVERY one of the Illini Players, Nick Smith just walked passed, gaves us a look, and kept walking. What a douchbag. Excellent observation, Tony. Nick has a serious attitude problem. He reminded me of an adolescent, pre-pubescent girl. He walked around with his ear-phones on, shrugging off Jack Ingram's own mother (even though she was taking the two out for dinner). Talk about sour grapes. As he was walking out the door, I kind of threw the shirt in his lap, hoping he would sign it. Honestly, I could care less about him and his attitude; I just really wanted that signature to complete the shirt. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) The thing is this gets really interesting as the NBA is talking about raising the floor age to 20 in their next CBA. The players seem to be in favor of it also, as no one wants to lose their job to an 18 year old who won't play at all for a couple of years anyway. They try this every other year or so and it fails time and time again. I see no reason to believe they would get it pushed through this time around. -
Truly the dog days of ST. Let's get the season started already.

No Problem Rex. I actually gave my quarterback rankings at the beginning of the off-season, but it needs some major updating anyway, so I'm really happy you brought this up. Here were my rankings as of Jan, 12. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=555253 Here are my current rankings: 1. Aaron Rodgers CAL- Aaron has franchise quarterback written all over him. He came out of obscurity this season to become one of the top quarterbacks in the land. He is a good size at 6'2, 220 and has an extremely strong and accurate throwing arm. Although he would prefer to stay in the pocket, he can move around and make a throw. What makes him a top-notch prospect, though, lies in his intangibles. I grew up a quarterback myself, so I am very pickey about what I want to see in a quarterback and his game-day leading ability. Ask around, Simms, Young, Aikman, etc. will all tell you intangibles, moreso than at any othe position, make or break a quarterback. Aaron loves leading the troops, he has guts after making a bad pass, he has confidence in laying the ball out deep after drilling the middle, and he is as tough as nails. The only real knocks on this kid are his size (some question his weight), and strength numbers. My NFL Compairson: Drew Brees 2. Alex Smity UTAH- Make no mistake about it, Alex is very capable of passing up Rodgers on draft day, but in the end, I think Rodger's raw strength and talent will be too much to pass up. The reason I love Smith is his football intellegence. This guy is a film-a-holic and is a true student of the game. At 6'4, 212, he is also an excellent size for an NFL QB. The numbers tell it all: 20-1 as a starter, completed 65% of his passes, threw for over 40 TDs, and just 7 Interceptions. He is a leader on and off the field and is ready to excell in the NFL. One knock on Alex is the idea that he may be the product of a system. Was he successful due to Urban Meyer, or was he just that talented? The team that selects him will know soon enough. My NFL Compairson: Good ol' #4, Brett Farve 3. Charlie Frye AKRON- Meet the next successful NFL QB out of the MAC. He is quite possibly the most complete quarterback in the draft. At 6'4 228, Charlie is a big quarterback with above average speed. He is tough as nails, prefers the pocket and has an amazingly accurate arm. He was one of my sweethearts early on and has done little to ruin that standing. He's going to excel in the NFL. In my estimation, he is the top senior QB in the draft and may very well be the heir apparent to Farve in GB. My NFL Compairson: Chad Pennington 4. Jason Campbell AUBURN- This guy has really climbed up the charts. After putting together an excellent season, he has followed it with an equall as impressive off-season. A huge guy at 6'5 223, Campbell is a real brusier that can use his feet and throw the ball. One of the finest QBs in school history, Campbell set many records and continuted to improve each season. His 63% completion rating is a school record. The thing that has so many scouts excited is his upside. Although he is still rather raw for the NFL, he could fall into a nice system and really start to turn the corner within his first two seasons. He will no longer be a fourth round selection, but rather a 2-3rd pick. My NFL Compairson: Steve McNair 5. Andrew Walter ASU- Although I'm not really big on this guy, his size and agility have scouts drouling. At 6'5 235, Walter was considered one of the finest QBs in the country before going down due to injury. There are serious questions on his mobility, but when he drops back, he is dangerous. He has quite possibly the strongest arm in the draft, but is hampered with slow speed. He'll go on day one. An EXCELLENT NFL Compairson: Drew Bledsoe 6. Adrian McPherson Ex-FSU- After blowing up the arena football league, McPherson is eager to get back on the field and show what he can do. After having been kicked out of FSU for gambling charges, McPherson took his speedy 6'3, 218 frame to the AFL. He is one of the most intriguing players in this year's draft as he could be the sleeper of a life-time. He was the first player to be named both Mr. Basketball and Mr. Football in the state of Flordia: that shows you his athletic ability. He is extremely speedy and very accurate. However, the major knock on this kid is his off-field issues and it may come back to haunt him on draft day. Someone may be willing to take McPherson in the 3rd round. My NFL Comparison: A faster Donovan McNabb 7. Stefan LeFors LOUISVILLE- A great kid that has really improved his stock this off-season. LeFors is widely considered one of the most underrated players in the country. He has an extremely accurate arm, great leadship ability, BUT lacks both strength and size. At only 6'0 205, LeFors may be selected in the fourth or fifth round simply because of his size. However, LeFors has every intangible you are looking for in a quarterback and is a really great kid. My NFL Compairson: There is a lot of Doug Flutie in him 8. Dan Orlovsky UConn- Come someone say overrated? Although this kid is huge, and has a strong arm, he lacks what it takes upstairs. 6'5 228 is good, but if you can't run a team, it does little good in the NFL. Although it was believed he had a lot of potential, a lot of the scouts I have talked to have backdowned on him. 9. Kyle Orton PUR- Everyone knows about Kyle. After having a Heisman-esq season, he went down to injury and never really bounced back. He hasn't looked very crisp in the off-season and has really had his stock hurt. I'm not big on Orton at all. 10. David Greene GU- LOVE THIS KID. What a winner. One of the most record-breaking individuals in the SEC, Greene had an absolutely stellar collegiate career. This kid just doesn't lose. He is an amazing leader both on and off the field. the only problemy with David is his very average skills. He really doesn't have any aspect of the game that is overpowering or above average. That said, I still think he could have a Tom Brady type situation and excel in the NFL after having backed someone up for a few years. If he only had an amazing arm, he would be a first round selection. Well, there it is. I hope that helps Rex!

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) i think were gonna se lots of pablo Ozuna playing third base this year. Crede is on his way out. Crede has been playing his way out. But, I think the writing has been on the wall for a while now. He'll get a shot to turn things around this year, but he is on a short leash. I think he has till' the All-star break to make things happen. Shingo just serves up a HR. 12-8 Sox. -

I've lost a lot of faith in Marte. He used to be automatic. When he came in, you would know it would be a short inning. Now, he takes a few lumps before getting those three outs. I'm hoping Hermanson and Vizcaino can come in and shut things down like Marte did two years ago. -

That's a good move by Clarett. If he wants to play in the NFL, he's going to have to really improve things this time around. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) I don't really understand you. You bash Willie Harris (and rightfully so) but then think he has good trade value? You can't have it both ways. If a player sucks, his trade value is low. Oh boy. :headshake Just because you don't like a player doesn't mean he "sucks." That's insanity. Harris--> Rangey, speedy second-baseman with a nice .obp. To the impartial observer, Harris looks like a serviceable, young two-bagger that is a threat on the base paths. But, after haveing watched Willie for a couple of years now, he has fallen out of my favor (it also appears he has fallen out of favor with some in the organization). I dislike his inability to hit lefties, utilize his speed with steal totals, his noodle arm, and most importantly, his attitude. Now, what right do I have to deny him trade value? You have to be kidding me. Willie can start on more than a few clubs in the MLB right now. He's young, he's "promising," and he's cheap. That means, HE HAS VALUE. "If a player sucks, his trade value is low." :puke Borchard--> High draft selection, believed to be an MVP callibur player in the MLB. With the type of power he possess from both sides of the plate, Joe is a risk worth taking. He's also shaping up to be a change of scenary guy. It looks like Joe isn't going to get a chance here, but he could help a lot of clubs elsewhere. Joe is a nice guy with a very impressive work ethic. Who know, maybe he can achieve All-star status somewhere else, he probably won't, but there's a shot. HE HAS VALUE. HE HAS POWER-NUMBERS VALUE. HE HAS SWITCH-HITTING VALUE. Once again, "if a player sucks, his trade value is down." :puke Koch=Sucks----->Borchard & Willie>>>>>>>Billy Koch and his mother.
