QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) because you touch yourself at night ...no no no. That's why the dinosaurs died.

So, I've noticed we can no longer view who is reading/posting in the forums. We can see who's logged onto Soxtalk on the homepage, we can see who is reading/posting in threads, but we can't see who is in the forums. Why the change? Any reason?

Thomas says he was kinda glad he wasn't in the room. Rather, he was via satellite. He was no aware of the insanely high number of high school students on roids. It "blew his mind." "We have to do something to send the right message to kids." When asked if steroids are cheating, Thomas quickly replied: "Yes it is. It's cheating." That's it. Quick one, but a good one.
-
Thomas said the off-season was a "shocker." Kenny replaced home-run hitters with line-drive hitters. Thomas says the "White Sox are a team to watch out for." When healthy, we are going to be dangerous. He says Santana is toughhhhhhh. But, he'd rather face Johan than Randy.
-
Thomas was really frustrated with Bonds' interview yesterday. To that end, he also understands how difficult the media could be. He expects to be back mid-late April. He has gotten over the fact that he was snubbed an MVP in 1998 due to Giambi's roids.

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) Crede at .179 and that swing still looks long to me. Harris at .194 - here is a guy who needed to have a good spring and it's not happening. For guys like this who are under the microscope, spring training results are more important than for, say, Paul Konerko. Crede and Harris are both under pressure. If these results are indicative of how they perform under pressure, that's a problem. No one should overreact to spring training stats or results but neither of these guys look good to me at this point. Jeez Jim, excellent post! Took the words right outta my mouth. Crede's swing still looks awfully long to me as well. I know Walk put in that small leg kick to try and take the hitch out of his swing, but so far, I have yet to see it. His swing is all goofed up. Personally, I feel he is on a short leash as it is. I think he has half a year to turn things around. Come the All-Star break and Crede is hitting .230 with 10HR, he's going to find that seat getting hotter and hotter. Then, He Gawn! As for Wee Willie: we have a perfet example of a guy not sensing the pressure from Iguchi. He should have known he was under the microscope and simply has not preformed. He talks the talk in all the interviews: "I'm not mad at Iguchi," "I'm just hoping for the best for the team," "I want to do whatever I can to help," but, no compeition. What gives? In case you haven't noticed, it's time to turn it on Big Guy. In my estimation, Harris doesn't have the same leash Crede has. If he doesn't seriously get on track in the next couple of weeks, he'll start the year in another uniform (whether it says Charlotte on it or not).

3/22 your Chicago Whitesox vs Seattle Mariners

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 02:38 PM) Right on! We really dodged a bullet with that one. Who knows; maybe this is the year things start going our way. You need to catch a few breaks if you want to make it to the playoffs. We haven't caught a one the past few years. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) Woah.. no way. :rolly Chill Steff. Believe it or not, others can come up with factual Sox nuggets as well. This was the most recent update and it merited some serious consideration. goof. :headshake

This is the official update of Mark's injury as of 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005. It appears that yesterday's reports of a injury lasting anywhere from 4-6 weeks were way off. Now, it is expected that Mark will miss only one SPRING TRAINING start and will throw a bullpen session either torday or tomorrow. Obviously, this mean he could be back in time for opening day. Wow. Per ESPN Radio NATIONAL sportcenter.

QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) How dare you Take that back right now I gotta say MoS, that is the most homoerotic sig-avatar combo I've seen at Soxtalk.

I know, I know, it happens. It's just that, Buehrle is our horse. It's going to take awhile to get over this one. I'm crestfallen.

QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) Give him his chance. He's earned it, this is what Bmac wants to do. He feels he's ready, so be it. Nothing scares me more than foolishly rushing a prospect through the system. History shows that is NOT the way to go. Sure, there are exceptions, there always are. But, when you are sitting on a prospect with as much talent as McCarthy, it scares the hell out of me to rush him to the show. Make no mistake about it, McCarthy is the best option. However, that doesn't mean it shouldn't scare the hell out of me. For once, I'd love to see a Sox minor league pitcher pan-out. Who was the last one, Buehrle? We've had some rotten luck. I'd hate to F this up. EDIT: Truth is, we have a lot of people looking at this situtation through McCarthy colored glasses. In reality, we have our best pitching prospect at 20 years of age being rushed. That is never a good thing, no matter how prosiming he looks.
-
QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) Shall we send him back down if he has a sub 3 ERA, Addison? I sure don't think so. If he has a sub 3 ERA, he's ready for the Bigs. I don't care what you say, Bmac faced the Angels TWICE in a week and held them to ONE total run. That is impressive. Yeah, talk to me when he is pitching for real W's and L's in a major league setting. He's getting rushed. I don't care what you say. He's getting rushed.
-
McCarthy= getting rushed. This is the one thing I feared would happen. We finally have a legit, upper-tier pitching prospect and now he's getting rushed to the bigs. I was really praying he would get his time in the minors and come up on his own terms. Contreras= look at that salary. Reinsdorf would be long in the ground before he ever paid that kind of scratch to a closer. Although I think he could excel in that spot, I just don't see it happening. Have McCarthy pitch until Buehrle is ready; then, send his ass back down to AAA. Please, Please, Please, Please don't screw this prospect up. He's a good one.
-
Worst case scenario: Mark isn't back till' May, struggles to return to form, doesn't get completely healthly and in the swing of things until June. In an attempt to plug the hole in the rotation, the Sox bring up McCarthy who gets bombed in the MLB and struggles with confidence after that. Sox get off to a slow start and have to play catch-up. Best case scenario: Um...I'll get back to you later. This is bad, f'ing news.

Mock Draft Contest Starts Next Week
AddisonStSox replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(shakes @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) I like it. It's simple As do I. Ok, upon further review, we are going to run the contest as stated in post #1. This system is really easy and I think it will entice quite a few posters to join the festivities. The contest will be up either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week and I hope to see all of you there! -
I know a lot of us like Neal. He seems to be a pretty good young arm that is one pitch away from cracking the rotation, or at least obtaining a moer important role out of the pen. I come from the camp that thinks, if you acquire a player, you should use him. If Ozzie, Kenny and co. think it would better serve both Neal and the team to send Neal down to AAA to learn that new pitch, I'm all for it. Worst case scenario, Walker flops and you simply call Neal up again.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 20, 2005 -> 09:24 AM) Is Freddy hurt or something? I haven't seen him pitch hardly at all. According to WhiteSox.com he has pitched in 2 games. Has he been pitching in B games or what? It just surprises me a little that a guy the Sox are counting on a lot doesn't seem to be getting a lot of work thus far. Any thoughts or info on this?? He was scheduled to pitch against the Royals, but was moved over to the B-game because they didn't want a division rival getting such a good look at him before the season. I dunno, FWIW.

Derrick Johnson.

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) If it happens it's a deal that makes sense for both teams. Thus ending the Piazza at 1B experiment?

Bears add former Falcons guard
AddisonStSox replied to WHarris1's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I, too, feel this is a good signing. Angelo isn't going out and signing the Orlando Pace(s) and the Walter Jones(s), but he is quietly bolstering that sad excuse for an O-Line with guys like Miller and Garza. Look at the Patriots O-Line. There isn't a guy anywhere near the first round. They simply have a bunch of horses that have learned the system. It works. I'm a big advocate of a piece-work O-Line of veterans and such. That said, I do like Adam Terry, the 6'8, 314 pounder from Syracuse. But, I don't think the Bears were looking to go that direction in the second round anywho. Mr. Tucker, your plane is boarding. -
So quick to forget Jamie Burke is a 33 year old journeyman. To think we have a legit #2 backstop in Burke is a strech. Game five: After chasing a ball into foul territory, Pierzynski crashes his knee into the wall, creating a deep bone bruise and some other problems. Although the White Sox are hopeful AJ will return soon, he could be side-lined for a month and a half. Now, you etch Jamie Freaking Burke in the nine hole for a prolonged period of time. Yuck. I have a much higher confidence level in Ben Davis than Burke. Davis was a #1 selection for a reason. Burke is a 33 year old journeyman for a reason. Davis is getting paid $1M to be a #2 catcher. I have no problem with that. Hell, look at what the idiots from the Northside paid their backup catcher. Four big ones. We have one of the better catching tandums in the AL, why mess it up?
