Getting back on track, how many of you have seen "Rookie of the Year," or whatever that god-awful Disney movie about the Northside was called. Maybe it's that floater from the closing scenes.

Steve Stone Joining White Sox Broadcast Tomorrow

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) Looking forward to hearing Stoney tomorrow. Interesting how DJ has all these "off days" this spring. Do you think maybe they're auditioning people for his job? Probably not, but it's a thought. I know he lives pretty darn close to the stadium. Maybe he's getting some days off to be with the family or the baby? I dunno. I've really come around on DJ. I enjoy his voice and he's good for a couple of yucks. That said, a Hawk-Stone combo in the booth would be one for the ages. Hands down the best in the MLB. I don't know if any of you have the extra innings package, but if you have ever heard some of the broadcasters for other clubs, it's pretty easy to tell we have one of the better duos in baseball. Some are just god awful. -
QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) Test Great pic chimpy. This put a huge smile on my face. Actually, I'm a little choked up. He's been through a lot this week. It was great to see him smile.

March 14 2005 Cubs vs Sox spring training game

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Arnie Munoz is pitching? :banghead I know it's easy to throw Lil' Arnie under the bus after that showing against the Expos, but this is the perfect setting to let him go out and battle against MLB level talent. Last time I checked, he still is considered one of the better arms in the farm system. The only way he'll be able to put that behind him is with some positive outings against major leauge talent. No pressure. It's all about confidence. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) Hawk+Stone= best TV broadcast in baseball. IMHO, Hawk+Stone= could never co-exist. As much as I love the Hawkaroo, he has a big ego when it comes to baseball knowledge. Although him and Stone have a good relationship, I don't think he could handle a guy in the booth that could challenge his baseball knowledge. Stone is one of the most intelligent baseball minds I've ever seen in the booth. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) St. Mary's is gonna beat them I think. Digger thinks that as well. I have to disagree. By the way, does anyone else think this is an extremely tough bracket? If Illinois wants to make it to St. Louis they are going to have their work cut out for them. Texas- Fairly consistent. Nevada- TOUGH. This is a damn good basketball team that isn't really getting talked about. Arizona- Extremely difficult. Scares the hell out of me. Oklahoma St.- Real good team. Actually, an argument for a #1 seed can be made for the Cowboys. When they are on, they are real tough. We are really going to have to play our best to make it out of Chicago.

Love him. Congrats Coach!

Excellent idea for a thread, but no source of debate in my mind. Blues Brothers. Hands down. I believe it won this award in a Chicago cable guide a few years back. Acually, more than a few years back. I think it was aout 5 years ago. IIRC, it was #1 Blues Brothers #2 The Untouchables #3 Ferris Bueler's Day Off ...and so on. Do you any of you Chicagoans remember this issue?

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) Dave Leto actually ripped on Williams for being too hard on DePaul a few weeks back, I think Williams announced the first UAB game when they lost in OT He's actually a bit odd to listen to. I don't know if he had any training in broadcasting, so I'll cut the guy some slack, but he has a lot of mannerisms unlike a broadcaster.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) He's been announcing a lot this year. He is going to attempt a comeback, he just wants to make sure he is 100% before doing so. He's been working out and playing a lot of pickup in North Carolina trying to get back in shape. Some of the nerve damage he received from the accident hurt his quickness, so that is one of the things that is taking a while to recover. With the settlement the Bulls gave him, one they didn't have to give, I figure the Bulls will get the first shot at him once he is ready to come back. Thanks.

I just tuned in to the Northeastern v. Vermont baskeball game and was greeted by former Bull and Duke All-American Jason Williams. Is he officially done with basektball after that devestating injury? If he officially on with ESPN? This is the first time I've heard about him joining up with Espn.

Per Rotoworld... Check out the stuff on Fiedler and Plax. Marco Rivera - G - DAL Newly acquired guard Marco Rivera underwent back surgery Thursday after injuring himself while running on a treadmill. That's why you don't give a $9 million signing bonus to a 32-year-old offensive lineman. Rookies don't hurt themselves running on a treadmill. Rivera will be inactive for four-to-six weeks and is expected to recover by training camp. Mar. 10 - 9:39 pm et Source: ESPN.com Itula Mili - TE - SEA The Seahawks have reportedly reached an agreement to re-sign TE Itula Mili to a four-year contract. We'll update once the deal becomes official. Mili should share tight end duties with Jerramy Stevens. He'll likely be a reserve. Mar. 10 - 8:29 pm et Mike Williams - WR - CLG Mike Williams ran a 4.58 and 4.59 in the forty at USC's Pro Day Thursday. The times were the same as they were at a faster track at the combine. But Williams was reportedly very impressive in his other drills and is bigger than ever. There's some thought to him playing tight end. One interesting note about the Pro Day was the presence of San Diego GM A.J. Smith and Bucs coach Jon Gruden. Mar. 10 - 8:21 pm et Ron Stone - G - OAK Raiders re-signed G Ron Stone. He was released a week ago to make cap room for a few of their other signings. Stone signed a three-year, $8.5 million contract a year ago, but terms of the new deal are so far undisclosed. On paper, the Raiders offensive line is a promising unit. Mar. 10 - 8:16 pm et Plaxico Burress - WR - PIT NFL Network reports the Eagles will fax a contract proposal to Plaxico Burress tonight. The other teams involved are very interesting: Cincinnati and Detroit. Burress is visiting Minnesota tomorrow, along with Darren Sharper. They should be considered the favorites. The Vikings have been very successful getting people to sign once they visit team headquarters. Mar. 10 - 8:05 pm et Jay Fiedler - QB - MIA NFL Network reports Jay Fiedler will sign with the Jets in the next day. Fiedler was reportedly insulted by Chicago's offer and knows he'll get more reps in New York all summer anyway. He will be valuable Chad Pennington insurance. Mar. 10 - 7:59 pm et

QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) Agreed. They are going to talk about it on Silvy and Carmen. I'll try to post a recap if I can. Hmmmmmmm... If we are talking about the second round selection and a defender for Edge, we may have to seriously consider the move. Depending on who the defener would be, that trade would vastly improve the Bears offense as you could add both Edge and Mike Willams. OR If you are uncomfortable with the look of the defense after having traded a starting defender, you can take Derrick Johnson at the #4 spot. Wow. This is going to be a fun rumor. Please make sure to post the recap!
-
Yikes. I don't know if I like this. I still advocate the selection of Cedric Benson in the #4 spot as he is much younger than Edge and will have time to work his way into the Bears offense behind Thomas Jones. If you give a young runner with the talent of Cedric time to learn a new system and study film and running backs in the NFL, he could easily surpass what Edge's talent. Hold on to the pick. Hold on to the defender. Don't make the move.

I've always felt if you think someone has raw or unseen talent, you sign him to a minor league deal. These minor league contracts certainly won't bury a team, even a team with a lower payroll. When you rank in the middle of the field when it comes to salary, you are forced to take risks on guys and hope at least some of them will go your way. I don't mind this signing, and I also advocated the signing of Moon, the Korean pitcher. Was he on juice? Yes. Do they have an extremely tough steroid policy in the minors? Absolutely. He's off the juice now, give the guy a shot.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) i didn't mean like pissed in a real serious way. Your right he is the last of his kind. Hell he has thrown more tochdowns at solider field than anyone, i could be wrong. Nope, I think you are correct. I'm pretty sure he holds the record for most thrown td's in Solider Field. Just wondering though, do you have a link to this story? I'd love to read it. Thanks.

Only thing I am certain on is the green seats won't be anywhere close to 100% throughout. I'm farily certain they plan on putting them in section by section, starting with the upper deck. It's going to look odd, but this is the only way they can do it. During Sox road trips, they are going to get in there and keep putting them in. That is, unless plans have changed.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) of those pitchers you're talking about, all of them had much more experience than mccarthy. keep in mind you are advocating putting someone into our starting rotation who has had 4 starts at AA. Ouch. 3E8 drops the hammer with that one. Four starts in AA to the majors? Nah-uh.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) Brett Favre to play next year and maybe more if his health holds up. Bears fans around the world are pissed. I'm not. I love #4. Growing up a quarterback, I have idolized Brett for years now. We won't see another one like him for a long, long time. Enjoy Favre, he's a dying breed.

Scary trend: The Sox are scoring all their runs in one game again. I was hoping for a lot of 3-2, 5-2, 1-0 wins this season. Hopefully this is just coincidence and out of the ordinary due to ST. PS: Brandon running over to first on the soft toss from Paulie was very reminiscent of a baby giraffe.
