QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) No, I'm not saying ST numbers mean nothing at all. But with McCarthy, he has something besides that to back it up. He's dominated just about every level he's been at. And I suppose Ozuna's been solid at points too, I'm interested to see how he does this year, actually. But, for a guy like Kevin Walker -- who's been bad at AAA and bad in the majors, I don't know how it can warrant making the big league club because of ten good IP... "I'm glad that there's a solid correlation between ST numbers and regular season numbers..."

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) I think the Bears could take Cadillac just as easily as Benson. SB It's been said Carnell is the biggest "playmaker" of the three. Personally, I don't know how you could pass on four consecutive years of 1,000 rushing in the Big 12. I just happen to think Benson is a better suited for an easy transition to the NFL. He's just so damn talented.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) I'm glad that there's a solid correlation between ST numbers and regular season numbers... Dude, we know. Get off it. You've been barking up this tree for weeks now. Personally, I'd much rather have a guy fighting for a roster spot put up excellent numbers versus putting up poor numbers and justifying by saying, "There is no correlation between Spring Training numbers and regular season numbers." But, to each his own I suppose.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Seriously though, who's in here? who's 1. Contraction of who is. 2. Contraction of who has. Try again.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) And what do all 3 of those "Great" back have in common??? A great OL.. something Jones never has had... Look at the numbers.. There was a reason the Cheifs were after him the year before, in case Holmes could not start they wanted Jones.. Who can be an Elite back running behind one the worse lines in NFL history.. You can't sit there and say that Benson is going to be a stud.. in the NFL ...Jus think that back in 99 Cade McClown was touted as the most ready of all the QB coming out that year.. In 95, Kijana Carter was a "Can't miss" RB.. and then poof gone In 98 Curtis Enis, was another "Can't miss RB" ...enuff said.. By those standards, you can't say anyone will be a success in the NFL coming out of the college game.

Iguchi flys out to short LF for the inning's third out. After an eight hit inning. Brewers-0 White Sox-8 Josh Fields to pitch the bottom half of the third.
-
Crede crusies into 2B after having smoked a ball into CF. His second hit of the inning. Two outs.
-
Widger grounds out to SS for the inning's second out. Sox bat around the order. Crede up.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) How is he doing. I was just looking at his minor league numbers and they are pretty damn good... http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/josh_fields.shtml We're still in the top of the third. Santos just taken out. Only one out.
-
Uribe goes yard to deep right CF. His second HR of the spring. 8 hits in the inning. All of Santos. One down. 8-0 Good Guys.
-
Dye hits a line drive to right CF. Stand up double. Brings in both Harris and Konerko. 5-0 Good guys.
-
Paulie with a long double to LF, one hops the wall, where CLee fields it and gets it back in. Willie held up at third. Runners on second and third with one out. Dye looking to elevate one.
-
Willie slaps one down the line past the drawn-in Helms at third. Good piech of woodwork. After going to a full count, he keeps his head down and makes some nice contact. One out in the top of the third. Brewcrew-0 Good Guys-3
-
Coming off the bench, Iguchi doubles deep off the wall in left, bringing in Widger and Crede, showing some power. Podsednik bunts Iguchi over. One out. Brewers-0 Sox-2 Garland taken out in the third after having been pegged by a come-backer in the second. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) When Grossman/Line were healthy Jones lead the league in TD and Yards.. THat to me is more than above avg back.. Someone that leads the entire NFL, to me that is a great back.. WR is now the biggest need with OL, next in line RB and QB are the 2 least of our conserns.. I have no worries, JA is by far the best GM in the city and knows what he is doing. Jones is not a "great" back. Tomlinson is a great back. Priest Holmes is a great back. Alexander is a great back. Ricky Williams was a great back. Benson has the potential to rank amongst the great backs. Jones does not. Check out his past statistics. He has bounced around the league for a reason. He can actually be considered a bust for how high he was drafted. I'm not saying he isn't good, but he will never be amongst the league's elite.

Rules: 1. Post only your mock draft submission here. In an attempt to save space, please limit your post to the mock (single spaced) only and save the justifications, suggestions, comments, etc., for a different thread. 2. This is a first round mock only. 3. One point will be rewarded for every correct selection; a bonus point will be rewarded for every three in a row correct. 4. The tie breakers will be the second and third round selection on your team of choice. At the bottom of your mock, please submit the name of the second and third round selection of whatever team you wish. After that, we will go to correct position, and if we have to go even further, we will go to either an offensive or defensive selection. The winner will get some kind of Soxtalk graphic or other form of shameless self-promotion. We're playing for pride! Note: 1. You will only get one shot so make it count, edits are not allowed. If you catch an error you want corrected right away, please contact me via PM and we will get it taken care of. Otherwise, no edits are allowed. 2. The draft is exactly one month away. This contest will close on midnight of April 22. Good Luck!

Carlos hasn't blimped out to the extent some of the posters would like you to believe. He's always been thick. Black is trimming. Nice way to attack him Jon!

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) Jones..The man had NO O-line, NO QB and NOt one WR worth a damn.. and still managed to put up great numbers.. But, lets toss him to the side for another RB.. Two words: Value pick. It's not a matter of tossing Jones aside, it's a matter of improving the RB position with one of the best talents in the draft. Jones is an above average back in the NFL. No argument there. No doubt about it. But, you need to think big picture. A Grossman-Benson tandum posses a serious offensive threat for years to come. I, too, and a big fan of Thoma Jones, but a talent the likes of Benson should not be overlooked simply because there is an above average back on the roster.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Shouldn't the fourth pick be someone who will have an immediate impact? No. High selections are groomed each and every year.

Hell Yeah Scott!!! Atta' Boy!!! I know you got thrown out at home, but that lead-off triple put a huge smile on my face. That's what you were brought here to do. Keep it up!

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) Brylan Edwards No on Mike Williams.. David Terll Part 2 Benson.. Why Draft A RB when you have one in Jones.. Who was the best player on the offense last year? Derick Johnson.. The Bears don't need more Defesive help this early in the Draft.. IMO Day 1 is all Offense for the bears. Sorry dude, but you are way off on that. -Mike Williams as the next David Terrell? No friggin way. Williams is a really quite the talent. The main difference between Terrell and Williams: Williams catches each and every "catchable" ball thrown to him. EVERY ONE. You never, and I mean never, see him dropping balls he should catch. Immediately, that puts him in front of both Terrell and Edwards. As many will tell you, Edwards drops his fair share of easy, "catchable" balls. He has a much better head on his shoulder. He catches everything in sight and he is a serious redzone presence (something Terrell never was). -Why Benson? Read the post above. This kid is really talented runner. I am a big fan of Thomas Jones, but Benson is the RB of the future. He has the makeup to be one of the league's premier backs, truly, in the upper-tier. -I agree with you on Derrick Johnson. Although he is going to be a great one in the NFL, he simply doesn't fit at the #4 spot. He'll fall and a team will be happy to snag him. Unless someone really slips in the second or third round, day one should be all O.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) I'm really starting to think the Bears are gonna take Cedric Benson. And why wouldn't they? Four straight years with over 1,000 yards rushing. The kid is a natural talent. He can and will contribute from the first time he steps on the field he rookie year. If drafted, the Bears have the RB of the future. He's got a winning personality, a nice look with the dreds, and a good head on his shoulders. He could be the face of the organization in two years time. I'm SO Pro-Benson it's sick.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) Going for the White Special Teams reciever. After losing out in the Tim Dwight sweepstakes to New England we needed someone to fill that role. Dude I love that avatar! It gets me laughing each and every time I see it. Awesome find!

"LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Bears on Wednesday signed unrestricted free agent wide receiver Eddie Berlin to a one-year contract. The 5-11, 195-pounder was a reserve receiver and special teams standout in four seasons with the Titans after Tennessee selected him in the fifth round of the 2001 draft out of Northern Iowa. Berlin appeared in 57 games with one start for the Titans, catching 24 passes for 370 yards with 2 touchdowns. He also registered 32 special teams tackles and averaged 19.5 yards on 30 kickoff returns and 3.7 yards on seven punt returns. Berlin had 20 receptions for 278 yards and 1 TD as Tennessee's third receiver last season, including one catch for 26 yards in a 19-17 overtime loss to the Bears. The 27-year-old is expected to compete for a backup job in Chicago. He is very quick, having been timed at 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash. At Northern Iowa, Berlin won the Missouri Valley Conference high jump competition as a freshman with a jump of 6'8". In 2003, he won the Muscular Dystrophy Association's golf tournament in Des Moines while paired with Bears' all-time sack leader Richard Dent, raising $25,000 for the charity. Berlin is the fourth free agent the Bears have signed to bolster their offense this offseason, joining wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad, right tackle Fred Miller and guard Roberto Garza." Add one more WR to the roster. I'm glad to see Angelo is really working the free agency pool. This guy can catch that ball and will certainly contribute to special teams. Nothing to write home about, but he is another nice addition to the WR core. Is Benson already suiting up for a Bears uniform?
