  1. Couple of minor league thoughts I was hoping some of you could speak to... ...I'll check back later to see what you think. Wassermann-Is this guy AAAA 101 or an actual relief prospect? If the latter, why not bring him up in the second half and scrap Bukvich (a guy with no real reason to be on any major league roster)?Hu-A passing fancy or a legitimate middle infield prospect? Again, if the latter, is he obtainable for the likes of Dye and would he be of any interest to the White Sox organization?Ellsbury-What does he project to at the major league level? Does he hit for any power or strictly a speed/pest sort of player? If he can put the ball in play, hit the occasional long-ball, and steal 40 bases, I think he should be a priority. However, why would the Red Sox part with that sort of player, as I'm hearing he projects to be their center-fielder of the future? Strike-zone judgment is also a very important factor in a guy with his skill set.Jack Wilson-Jack Wilson is going to be available for the right package of pitching prospects and major league talent and with gaping holes at both middle-infield positions, I wouldn't mind taking a chance on a guy like that (even with that salary). How does a package surrounding Broadway and some other viable talent sound? Would Pittsburgh bite? Should the Sox offer it? Thanks guys, you do a heck of a job.
  2. ...this is going to be fun. I can't wait to see all these Happy Harrys that were so quick to cast the first stone when other's projections were dead wrong sit back, relax, and strap it down with a country sized helping of crow.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) I doubt he'll be willing to sign a deal in the White Sox price Range. I can't see him taking a discount similar to the one Buehrle took and I can't see the Sox agreeing to a 5 year $70M+ deal like he'll be looking for. How long are you going to be allowed to propagate this unsubstantiated nonsense? Buehrle rocks. Congrats to Kenny Williams for signing this contract. To get this caliber of pitcher on the cheap...hell of a job. Buehrle is a pro's pro and will help the team throughout the life of this contract.
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) Stimulants are not roids. Oh, this is for greenies? Oh, that's rich. I'd be willing to bet more than half the league is on greenies.
  5. Phantom injury or actual concern? I don't know anymore. Furthermore, I suppose I don't care. Day looked like absolute meat when he was up with the Sox and MacDougal has looked like a shell of his former self. But, because bullpens are such a year-to-year phenomenon, I'm really not worried about MacDougal--all signs point towards him being able to right the ship at some point.
  6. ...well, this is not a suprise. I have always said it. "Yup, that Neifi Perez has always looked like a 'roider' to me."
  7. Q: Why would you trade Bobby Jenks? A: Read Moneyball. ...an overweight, velocity-reduced relief pitcher that will be seeking a multi-million dollar deal in the near future...
  8. What did Billy Beane say of Lenny Dykstra? He was "perfectly designed, emotionally" to play baseball? That's what that interview reminded me of. That's how I want my ballplayers: confident, introverted, and dumb as hell. He has the perfect make up for a reliever.
  9. ...it won't be "dead" until he's traded elsewhere. Either way, I'm losing interest. They had me, and then they lost me...
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) Its a message board. We discuss and argue things here, its what we do. If you just want the news, then go to a news site. --BUZZZZZ-- Wrong answer. Nobody's impressed with the baseless conjecturing on Collective Bargaining Agreements. If you are fluent in the Major League Baseball Players Association bylaws, then, by all means, let your voices be heard. If you are fluent in collective bargaining matters and how it might relate to a specific Buehrle hang-up, again, fire away. If not, take it elsewhere.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 11:25 AM) Maybe you shouldn't open the dialogue with insults if you want people to actually answer your questions. ...maybe you should take the pissing contest elsewhere. Attempting to follow the ebb and flow of the contract negotiation has been nearly impossible with all of these little quibbles.
  12. ...so, I take it from the insistent pissing contest we are no longer worried Buehrle will actually be signing a contract extention with the Chicago White Sox?
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) Toby Hall has absolutely zero value now, unless some idiot manager wants to put him at first base. We really should have him get the labrum surgery. ...if he is to remain with the White Sox, I would put him under the knife over the All-star break. This season is a lost cause, might as well give him as much time as possible to recover.
  14. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 01:20 PM) It doesn't matter who sucks more, cause Toby freaking Hall would not be able to bring us Eric Patterson, let alone something of value. The only way we get something out of Hall is if he is traded in a package. Like if we were to try and trade for Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Hall would likely be a part of the package because the Braves would want a backup C out of the deal. ...settle down, tyke. Surely it would have to be a part of a package. What do you take me for? Hall along with a bullpen arm or two and some spare parts has more value than you might imagine.
  15. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) no way Hall would bring us Patterson. And in about the same number of AB's, Koyie Hill has outproduced Hall anyway. Plus, Hill is better defensively and actually has an arm. And why would the cubs want to mess with the chemistry of Hill and Zambrano. When Hill has caught Zambrano, Zambrano has been lights out. It's simple: Koyie Hill sucks; Toby Hall sucks less.
  16. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) The Cubs have to be looking for another catcher. And I will would willing to dump "No Throw" Hall and finish the year with GusMo as our back up. I know he is injured, but Hall has shown no value. Maybe the Cubs would throw in a pitcher if we dumped Hall on them since their pitchers tend to develop well in our system. ...the hell with throw-ins. If the Cubs would be willing to part with Eric Patterson for Toby Hall in a one-for-one swap, you fax in the paperwork without a second's notice. In my opinion, the Cubs simply have to be loooking for a platoon partner for Bowen because Blanco's playing status is in doubt and Koyie Hill simply shouldn't be wearing a Major League uniform. Hall simply came to mind as a player that might interest the Cubs--there are others (including some in the bullpen).
  17. ...don't mean to interupt--wait, that's exactly what I mean to do. I brought it up earlier and I was wondering if any of the minor league buffs could speak to my question...is Eric Patterson (2B Cubs) available via trade? If the Cubs are really planning to make a playoff push in 2007 (and all signs point towards the affirmative), would they have interest in a guy like Toby Hall to platoon with Bowen or an arm or two out of the bullpen? A year or two ago I wouldn't have even brought this up. However, it looks like the Sox and Cubs are now willing to deal with one another and I think both teams have pieces the other would be intersted in--especially considering the depth of the White Sox middle infield prospects is about as shallow as one of those plastic children's swimming pools.
  18. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) Oh come on. The Score reported it was done, or close to being done, but at least they knew something was happening. I guarantee you that AM 1000 and Bruuuuuuuce Levine knew something was going on as well, but wanted to make the Score look as poorly as possible in breaking the story and trying to scoop them. Thus, they get the most polar opposite quote (from Mark's agent) they can and repeat IT all day. So basically we had two radio stations yesterday, one saying a deal was practically done, and the other pretending as though absolutely nothing was going on. And both were dead wrong, and probably knew as much. They're like two stubborn kids refusing share. ...pay heed to this post. This is the most insightful post that has been in this thread for pages and pages now.
  19. ...again, I feel the need to step in Mr. 101. It's long been rumored that Dunnigan and Humphrey will be a package--if so, you take them both without a second's thought. Dunnigan is a rare talent and has the potential to be an absolute monster in the Big Ten. He would be a big man the likes of which Illinois has never seen. Likewise, Humphrey has a lot to offer. He is shooting up the charts and is an absolute sniper from beyond the arc--in other words, a perfect fit for Weber's offense. If you add both Dunnigan and Humphrey and tack-on Suggs, Miller, or, if you can imagine, Shumpert, that will go down as the single greatest recruiting class in Illinois history (strictly speaking from a High School ranking type point of view--once they get there, who knows). Dunnigan, Humphrey and Suggs and the Illini are in business and Weber just netted his best class. Dunnigan, Humphrey and Shumpert and Weber has gone above and beyond this class's expectations and the Illini really have some special in the works. (For what it's worth, my prediction on June 28th is Dunnigan. Humphery, and Suggs.)
  20. To me, the deadline seems like a foolhardy attempt by the White Sox to strong-arm Buehrle in the negotiations. ...sounds like a Kenny Williams chestnut to me.
  21. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 09:21 AM) What about someone to the Cubs for either Pie or Pagan? It doesn't seem as though Sweet Lou plays both at the same time. It's one or the other in CF. Based on numbers this year, Pagan might be the choice, but I think I'd rather have Pie. I don't know what they need pitching wise, maybe Vaz to replace Cy Marshall? There is one player in the Cubs system that I would be very interested in and he may just be available with a bit of a log-jam at the Major League level--Patterson. To that end, would the Cubs have interest in Toby Hall for their 2007 playoff push? He'll out produce Koyie Hill even with a torn labrum and may work nicely in a platoon situation with their new guy who's name escapes me at the moment--Bowen? Will Hall and some spare parts net Patterson--the 2B of the future?
  22. -Contreras has been a class act since acquired by the White Sox. He was really one of the feel-good stories of 2005 and my predicition of "As Contreras goes, so go the White Sox in 2005," proved quite prophetic. -If Gonzalez continues his offensive production at this clip, he deserves a shot for the Cintron-utility next year. If he comes back down to Earth, stick with Cintron and the proven commodity in 2008.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) Correct, and UK has a wide lead IMO. And who is the big guy in this class if not Liggins? Miller who isn't coming? The overrated Shumpert? Dunigan? Illinois will end up with a class full of Demetri McCamey like prospects in 2008 which isn't bad, but won't get you to many Final 4's anytime soon. For the record, I think Suggs, Shumpert, and Dunigan, and probably some sort of wild card depending upon Jamar Smith, C.J., and whatever else goes on, will be the class. A) The most players you will see signed for 2008 will be three. B ) Liggins was not the "big guy" for Illinois in the class of 2008 and the other Illini posters have supported that notion. It's simply not the case.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) I'm talking purely defense here. IMO Josh will never be Crede out in the field, now it's a completely different story with teh stick. ...someone correct me if I'm wrong (and I know you will), but Crede wasn't a wiz with the glove immediately at the Major League level either. If I remember his development correctly, he was a dreadful hitter and an average fielder to start his career, only to improve his defense to the point where he could be considered top five when healthy and have an outstanding 2005 and 2006 offensive campaign. I think the development of these two ball players has been strikingly similar.
  25. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) Miller will end up going with him. The Illini will still have a pretty good class, but yet again miss out on the big time guy. No shocker. Weber may very well end up mssing out on the "big time guy," but, Miller he was not. In fact, Weber is still in the hunt for this class's "big time" Illinois "guy." ...and I respectfully disagree about Miller going along with Liggins. These kids are all about the limelight and there simply won't be enough to go around...especially playing similar positions. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:23 PM) Liggins was far, far from the big-time guy in this class. Bingo.
