  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Actually I was thinking that with the spin you are reading into the medias application you would make a good politician. And really there is no need to get an attitude problem with this. Pull whatever it is, out of your rear, and talk to me when you can act like you want to have an intelligent conversation instead of just screaming at people. Um. Really? Screaming at people? Really? Screaming, you say? Hrmph. Ok.
  2. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) The semantics of the definition don't really matter. It's just what a people generally think the word means and if you're willing to accept it. I haven't noticed but you're implying that the media has accepted the use of the word to describe Katrina victims. straight out of my Winston Canadian Dictionary sitting beside my computer "n. one who flees for safety, esp. from political or religious persecution, to a foreign land."
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:42 PM) Silly me, I always took refugee to mean one seeking refuge. I don't see racial, religious, or national overtones, until other people imply it. You would fit in nicely with the media. Take the extra 30 seconds, grab an f'ing dictionary, and use the proper term. /end
  4. I'm grateful to dictionary.com for putting the word especially in there. Who knows, it may be in there because of my soap-boxing. However, one quick look at another online source at my disposal Wikipedia does not include the word "especially." Go look at the dictionary, even the one ( ) and I promise you the word "especially" won't be in there.
  5. QUOTE(Beastly @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) Its not just Marte's fault we suck ass right now, and might not make the playoffs. You know, I heard the most stupid thing the other day when we were losing against Anaheim. Someone said, "hey, at least we're in the playoffs." Well we're not there yet, and Marte is the least of our problems, to be quite honest with all of you. I looked the other day at the whitesox.com's roster we had. Why the hell is Sanders up? He sucks, I remember him when he came up a few years ago...eh...god...can't blame Williams, after all, he did go to Stanford, so he "must" know what he's doing. Marte isn't going anywhere for right now, he's got 2.1 million on his contract for next year and I would believe once this bulls*** gets figured out, he'll be on the playoff roster. Woa. A Ross sighting. This really is serious. Hey bud.
  6. Dear Media, Your constant use of the term "refugee" when referring to those "victims" of Hurricane Katrina and her destruction is grossly misused and incorrect in the extreme. Per Dictionary.com: an individual seeking refuge or asylum; especially : an individual who has left his or her native country and is unwilling or unable to return to it because of persecution or fear of persecution (as because of race, religion, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion) These poor people you have deemed "refugees" are nothing of the sort. In fact, your use of the term "refugee" is, in itself, incorrect by definition. To paint these hurricane survivors as "refugees" not only does them as disservice, but labels them in a derogatory and inflammatory manner. These people are American citizens, just like you and I. In no way, shape, or form are they "refugees." This is a time to help out our fellow American, not label them as "outsiders,” “persons in exile” or “immigrants.” Thank you. I shake your warmly by the hand. AddisonStSox
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) That's right. Hawk always gives Ozzie a lot of the credit for Garland's success. I think if you give him that credit, you have to say he has absolutely ruined Marte. Marte was one of the most dominating relief pitchers in baseball before Ozzie took over. He seems to be very quiet. Sometimes loudmouths like Ozzie make guys with Marte's type of personality very uncomfortable. How far-fetched would the following situation be: Marte f's up on the mound. Again. Ozzie confronts him about it, whether it be in a public or private setting, Marte either a) takes offense or b ) feels even more pressured...then, may snap at Ozzie the next time it is brought up, gets an early hook, etc. I know I'm just conjecturing here, but there may be a bit more to the "Ozzie Montana" persona than we think. If you're one of his guys, you're in. If you're not, you're in Milwaukee. (contracts aside, blah, blah, blah)
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) None of us have anything official. I would write to AJ Pierzynski C/O Chicago White Sox/US Cellular Field 333 West 35th Street Chicago IL 60616 Or email the White Sox and ask them if there is a way that AJ prefers to be contacted, sending it to [email protected]. Good Luck Yeah, and in the memo line, congratulate him and his beautiful wife on their new-born daughter.
  9. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) Grinder rule #122345566455366 Don't. I repeat. DON'T cross the manager. Call Brooks.
  10. "Choo know, eets all about chemistry. I would do n-e-thing for mi guyz. That is, unless they name is Ross Gload, Damaso Marte, Carlos Lee, Magglio Ordonez..."
  11. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) I am frightened beyond the capacity for rational thought. "Yeah, no s***. This is creepy."
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) I dont understand where you get that from. He has barely played, and we had marginal success. It was Orton's first game, and he started the season opener, in the largest stadium in the NFL, as a rookie. I dont think Grossman has ever been in a situation like that. And I think he played great, and looked poised. I dont understand the lovefest for a QB that has let us down 2 years in a row. Grossman's future is not with the Chicago Bears. That is a statement I would bank a hat-eating on, but, with the way the Bears have absolutely butchered the quarterback situation this season, I have no reason to believe they won't invest more time and money his way.
  13. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) I think the bears will be fine this season and their were a ton of positive things from todays loss. Here are a few of them: -Kyle Orton looked terrific. He was on fire in the 2nd half. -Benson looked pretty good. -Muhamad was great -Gage was very good -That defense was dynamite If they can keep from making stupid mistakes like 3 false starts in a row than they can win this division. That's all I got for now. I'll be back.
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) WSCR won't care what most of us have to say...since the majority of us fall under they're target market of ages 25-44 which they are convinced all love Mike North... :rolly I never imagined the switch would be this negative, but on the other hand, as I said in my previous post, I am not suprised. I don't care what demographic they are trying to attract, Mike North would be an absolute travesty. Oft considered a second-rate sports station in Chicago anyway, why in the world would Score start off their relationship with White Sox broadcasting on this note? It just doesn't make a lick of sense. Do they not understand Rooney's talent and all he brings with him to the booth? Do they not understand the shrivel of White Sox tradition we fans are hanging on to? Or, do they simply look at the bottom line and throw everything else out the window? It is really a very tragic turn of events. As for Kalapse, there are many (present company not included) that find our belov'ed Ken "The Hawk" Harrelson "unlistenable." For man, his catch-phrases, homer-tendencies, massive ego, etc. are just too much and for these reasons, they tune into the #1 broadcasting duo in the AL even when they are by a television set. Yes, it's THAT important.
  15. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Passing on Leftwich should be a fireable offense. SB I actually broke my television's remote when they passed on Leftwich for the fearless tandum of Michael Haynes and Rex Grossman. Literally, I had to purchase a new universal remote because I slammed it to the ground. I hated the selection of those two on draft day, and I still hate it. Byron Leftwich>Haynes + Grossman + Ditka + Gail Sayers...and so on EDIT: BTW, I have a really great picture of Grossman all drugged up at a Florida party in his senior year with the caption "Where's My Highsman?" on it. I'll have to try to dig that up.
  16. Is there anyway we can email this thread to the good people at WSCR? Complete with all vulgarities? If nothing else, it may at least rule out Mike North. Let me just say this, the White Sox-WSCR relationship could not have started out on worse terms.
  17. Meet the loveable cast of left-handed characters: Kevin Walker Arnie Munoz David Sanders Paulino Reynoso ...Yeah, go for it Ozzie. Send Marte packing.
  18. I know this: 1. Freddy should pitch the first game on the road 2. Contreras, in an attempt to coddle his confidence issues (although with a very impressive appearence in the Bronx, this may not be as severe), should pitch at home.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) Yes, yes he does. God, were you wrong on that one, Addy. ...and you Bear fans will be paying for it alllllllllllllllllllllllllll season long. Starting a rookie quarterback in the National Football League is grounds for absolute ridicule and criticism. I said it was the wrong move then, and if the Bears win 10 games this season, I will still say it was thw wrong move. I was completely disappointed with that decision. Now, back to your regularly scheduled program.
  20. Now, this is the type of thread I can tolerate. Well done. Not only did you say your piece on the current state of our Sox, but you backed it up--with statistical information, nonetheless--and made it your own. Let this be a lesson to the rest of you! EDIT: In an attempt to actually add something of substance...one can argue, however, that the Sox don't have anywhere near the talent level the 2000 Yankees had. Hell, I don't even know if I can say without doubt the Sox have more talent than the 1997 Marlins. People much more baseball-intelligent than I have been saying for decades, good pitching beats good hitting. Well, look no further than the 2005 White Sox. If our pitching--especially the starters--can lock it down in the playoffs and keep us in nearly every game, we have a good chance to play for a pennant. Time will tell on this one.
  21. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) -Base Contract: $3.5 Million -$500,000 Buy Out. -350 At Bats- $1 Million -110 games- $500,000 -A 12-year-old giving financial advice to a professional general manager...priceless.
  22. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) I feel I have the right to attack, but no one is allowed to attack my Kristin Kreuk. Wasn't it Addison St or Kalapse who said she looks like a rat? For shame. Not I. Although, now that you mention it. She is rather mousey.

    QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) LOL!!! Sure, but that was in '90 and it was as accepted around these parts. By '94 when my band was doing more shows in Chicago, I was seeing more clubs and more "sights". I have never seen the inside of any of these clubs though. Now my sister on the other hand hangs at them quite often. Barking up the wrong tree, no?
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) There would literally be nothing left on PHT.
