QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) Just because I'm an ass, I'll just say my feelings are the exact opposite. I think San Fran is a rile and disgusting city and do my best to stay clear of it. It felt dirty as all get up and has very little to do. Of course Detroit is worse. ...you dissenter
  2. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) Let me start by saying that I can understand all the 'gangter-ization' in your avatar and sig, since you are from the mean streets of Northbrook. Also, I don't think the sense of glood and doom comes from what is left on the schedule. Its seeing us completely whipped by a team we could play in the playoffs. Plus, knowing how well we have faired against other 'playoff' teams. ROFLMFAO :puke I had the EXACT same thought run through my head.
  3. Please. With the threads. Please. Maybe--just a thought, here--we can make two, HUGE, ENORMOUS, ALL-ENCOMPASSING Soxtalk Optimism/Soxtalk Pessimism threads.

Funny story about San Fran: A cousin of ours is a big-time defense attorney on the West Coast and had condo in downtown San Fran that he offered to the family to use for vacations. Well, about the time he offered it up, my parents 10th or 15th anniv. was coming up, so they decided to take a trip to Cali. minus the kids. After spending the week there and absolutely loving it, they decided to walk to an Italian rest. for a bite to eat. Now, I swear to you, as they were walking out the door, my mother said to my father, "I'm going to bring my camera, ya never know, we might run into Francis Ford Coppola. Naturally, my pop made nothing of it. SURE AS s***, as they were entering a restaurant, my mom spotted Francis Ford Coppola dining alone by the window of the Italian restaurant across the street. My mom says to my dad: "I have GOT to go over there and ask to take a picture of him." Dad: "No way. Let the guy eat his meal. I'm sure he gets it all the time and he just wants to have a bite to eat in piece. Leave him alone. Mom: "You have got to be kidding me. I have to go over there." Well, turns out, my Dad was able to prevent my mom from walking over there and as a result, they lost the opportunity of a lifetime. Turns out, he was eating at his daughter's restaurand...or a restuarant named after his daughter...or something to that end, and actually enjoyed taking pictures with fans.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) I'm not Jim, but San Fran is one of the only places I have traveled to. I was there back in '90 (yeah...man of the world I am), and I LOVED it. That city is great. Unbelievably clean. Even the homeless seem clean, and many of them polite. Street musicians every 100' or so, and most of them REALLY good. No kids with buckets there, not that I saw atleast. It's really a great city, just be sure to bring a jacket. I was an idiot. "I'm going to California in April" I thought. "Why would I need a jacket" I thought. Froze my friggin' ass off for 6 friggin' days. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I adored San Francisco. Actually, I'm quite-traveled at 19 years of age and if I had to, I would put San Francisco amongst the top of the list. It is just as Kid described. Beautifully clean, amazing scenary...you really do get the big-city by water feel there just as much as you do in downtown Chicago (if not more). The food is amazing (YOU HAVE GOT TO GET CLAM CHOWDER IN A SOURDOUGH BOWL). Some of the sites to see include: Fisherman's Wharf (San Francisco's answer to Navy Pier), Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge. There are some great breakfast/coffee houses that I'm sure Jim can recommend. God, I would move there tomorrow. You are going to love it. EDIT: Sorry, I'm sure I'm just going to keep remembering places to go. ChinaTown (HUGE), Haight-Ashbury, the world's longest, winding street (can't remember the name...might be Lombardo)...I'll be back EDITx2: VERY VERY cool Jack Kerouac/beat places to look up.
  6. Grew up a huge ND fan, but have since lost the "awe" of Golden Dome football. Illinois ...and a rather distant Nebraska (Big fan of their program) Alabama (One of the most history-laden programs in the country...I'm a sucker for that stuff) But, having such a big interest in the NFL draft, I do watch a ton of collegiate football from around the country and tend to look at individual preformances moreso than school wins and losses.
  7. I really hate to bad-mouth the Simpsons and I've been holding back on this for a long time now, but, it is time for that show to die. I mean, it really is like watching an entirely different show. It's horrendous. This show used to be a hysterically witty piece of American pop cluture, but, now, it is just one failed attempt after another to force the viewers to laugh at stuff that just isn't funny. Time for a trip to the glue factory... Homer to horse: and you're not invited. (See!!!! That show used to be hysterical!)
  8. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) Very good point. If Marte were "fired", that would be a trip to the DL, with him being told he should not hang around. Personally, I believe it, it isn't far fetched. I know they're at their wits end with him. All you have to do is listen to Harrelson, he's the mouthpiece. Right you are. Isn't it funny how Hawk finds a way to bad-mouth a member of his belov'ed White Sox immediately before his departure? Coincidence...I think not.
  9. I'm not doubting you or your impeachable sources, but a move such as this would be idiotic in the extreme. On one hand, you could keep Marte, a LHP, through the 2005 playoffs and trade him in the off-season, a market in which he would most certainly have value. or "Fire" him, destroying all trade value and losing a LHP and staple of the Sox bullpen.
  10. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) i think he has a better chance than duke Ok, so, now, you're the general manager of any team in baseball save the White Sox... Who would you rather have: Contreras with his bad contract or El Duque with nothing but a decent one-year deal? /end This isn't MVP. GMs want talent. Clearly, Contreras is the better of the two.
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) Why? Count has had a really nice year. I can guarentee Count is with this team unless we're getting a stud in return. Oh, no, no, no. Contreras will not be back with the White Sox next year.
  12. I never, EVER, though I'd be saying this. I'd really like the Sox to pursue a long-term deal with Paulie in the off-season if the dough allows.
  13. It's nice to see he's thinking about some power production. Who knows, he may very well get a chance in the 3-hole in 06'.
  14. My prediction: an absolutely horrible game complete with utter incompetence at the quarterback position.
  15. Happy Birthday bud! I sincerely hope you have a great one.
  16. Well, the Irish get a chance to "prove" themselves all season long. Let's see how they fair against USC, Purdue, etc. before we wake up the echoes. EDIT: Oh yeah, you can add Tenn. to that list as well.
  17. QUOTE(rangercal @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) My opinion is you whine too much That's just what Josh does. In fact, I can't recall seeing a post other than a headshake or something to that end. That's his gig.
  18. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Guess that depends on your definition of "hurting" Good call Addy Michigan pissed that one down their leg. I think I'm gonna laugh my ass off if ISU beats Iowa though. Go Clones!
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) he needs a good nickname though Baby Huey just isnt cutting it. It's Stay-Puff.
  20. I'm guessing either Borchard or Anderson play tonight. Don't fool yourselves just yet, this is still a very important win. You need this win just as bad as any other. Go out and get it done, Freddy!
  21. Does anyone else realize how important a consistant, dominating Jose Contreras can be in the final push to the playoffs and beyond. This guy has been absolutely stellar his last four outings...and when I say stellar, I mean it in the truest sense of the word. He has been outstanding. His walks are non-existant, he is attacking the strike zone--with EVERY pitch--and he has a confidence and swagger about him the likes of which I've never seen him with before. My point is this: if Jose truly has figured it out or did something to work on the stuff between his ears, this new-found ace could be like a trade-deadline SP Ace addition. Now, that doesn't mean Kenny gets a free pass, I still would have liked him to pursue a SP--despite the market being an absolute mess. Hats off to Jose Contreras and let's really keep our fingers crossed on this one. If he can keep this up, the Sox have four devestating pitchers to throw out there in a playoff series. Whether or not Contreras is a member of the White Sox in 2006 is another story, but, at the very worst, he is at least driving his trade-value through the roof. Way to go Jos-e.
  22. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) http://sports.ign.com/articles/648/648278p1.html YESSSSSSSSSSSS, i'm so excited for this game. Will be a great change of pace. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) that video on the website is pretty cool. man, how cool is this game going to be? QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) Not to mention that there will actually be a dynasty factor in this game because you'll be able to play more than one season without it takign months QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) care to try it? and shutup, i'm excited! You're not...um...excited are you? :headshake
