Oh boy. Here we go again.

QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) That's what the Pats were saying about Tom Brady. The difference is, the Pats never dubbed him the QB of the future. He was supposed to be a serviceable backup QB, nothing more.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) I didn't hear all the details, but Brooooooooooooth Levine just said on AM1000 that there's still some life in a Griffey deal, and if he signs off on it the deal could be done in the next couple of days. I thought the whole KG2 thing was dead? Don't you realize what you've done!!!!???? Hurry up and delete this before someone reads it. It's over gang. Over. Not happening.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) They didn't pick up Bernie's contract for next year. So, obviously, this a move for this year and possibly the future. I didn't expect them to go with Womack/Williams in CF down the stretch. FWIW, Lawton is a UFA after this season. So, I don't think we can really call it a move for the future. But, I think the Yankees are much improved with Lawton in CF than a Womack-Williams tandum down the stretch.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) 1.) I do not buy into the hype that this team cannot win. 2.) Tim Rattay would start on this Bears team. He's better than all four of our QBs right now, if we had him, I'd want him to start. All I'm saying is that he's going to start this year sooner or later, I'd much rather have it be sooner rather than later. But in the end we'll see what happens when the season starts, all we can really do right now is wait and see. If Orton is named the Bears starter for Week 1, I'll set up a web cam and eat my hat. The Bears organization knows what they have to do. You groom young, promising QBs. That's what you do. Period. It won't happen. I'm also just as sure this Bears team--complete with the #1 defense in the National Football League :banghead :banghead :headshake --cannot win.

Not only does Orton NOT put you in the best position to win ballgames, but you risk screwing up what looks to be a future NFL starter. Rarely do rookie QBs put you in the best position to win ballgames and this is no exception. Hell, the Niners are starting Tim f***ing Rattay over consensus #1 selection Alex Smith. Is Alex Smith more talented than Rattay? Absolutely. Does he stand a good chance of getting killed behind that OL and suffer a 2-3 year set-back as a result? Yes. Alex Smith is their future. Likewise, it would appear Orton is the Bears future signal-caller. You do not put these kids out there to get killed. Let's face it, the Bears are going NOWHERE this season. Nowhere. Putting Orton out there does nothing more than risk injury, confidence, and maturation set-backs. Let the kid watch the NFL from the sideline for a year, get in there for a few snaps and compete for the job next season. The Bears are not in a situation where they HAVE to play the rookie QB...so why do it? To finish with 4 wins on the year? No thanks.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) No way in hell I start Blake, just because of his performance yesterday. He looked like absolute s*** to me and he kept smiling which pissed me off. Lets just go for it with Orton, most people don't feel that we're going to compete this season anyway, why not have the best QB go out there and play. He may be a rookie and he's going to make mistakes but he appears to be the best quarterback on the team right now. If they start Blake I won't be upset but I'd much rather see Orton. No. No. No. :headshake You do NOT start rookie QBs in the NFL unless they are primed for Hall of Fame careers. After Ben's season last year, everyone thinks it's ok to start rookie QBs. Well, it's not. Ben's size and refined talent last year made him a good candidate to start some ballgames, but the Steelers still started the season with Maddox at #1 on the chart. Ben was a rare exception. No rookie quarterback ever put up the numbers Ben did in the history of the NFL. The last rookie quarterback to ever suceed like that before Ben was a guy the went by the name of Dan Marino. GROOM ORTON!!!! Luckily, this is exactly what I think the Bears will be doing. Blake should be the starter and Orton should take some time to learn how the NFL works.

Although you have to shake your head everytime the Yanks trade away prospects, I believe this deal is a good one. It will give them the CF they've been looking for and it may pay dividens down the strech. As for the Cubs waiving the white flag: oh yeah. I'd have a firesale and get rid of as much of that dead-weight as possible. Hendry bascially traded Jason DuBose for this Berg kid.
-
My depth chart would look something like: 1) Blake 2) Kittner 3) Orton Let's actually do this thing the right way. Groom Orton for a year and let him compete for the starting job in 06'-07'. Sorry, fellas, but he ain't going to have a year like Big Ben in Pittsburgh.

They've decided to give McCarthy the start in Texas, huh? Uh oh. We may be looking at another L. They've got his number.

Happy birthday little one.

Not to steal your thunder, Sir Heads, but I was about to post a nice, friendly hello to Aidan last evening. Who else could come in and write 3,000 non-sensical posts in two days?

Stay away...stay far, far away from Nomar. Glory Days...well, they'll pass you by.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) I'm predicting a victory for our club against Hernandez. Knowing how odd baseball operates--our pathetic offense will probably hit one of the most highly touted prospects in the last several decades. Then, appropriately enough, we'll be shut down with the same lineup against Gill Meche, Pineiro, or whichever jobber starting pitcher Seattle lines up after tonight. Amen, brother. I'll go out on a limb and say we tag this kid tonight only to be limited to 3 runs for the remaining two ballgames. -
Shut your mouth and play ball, Paulie. I cringe everytime this guys talks to the press.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:01 AM) You've got to give the man his props. His made some big plays and has done a fairly decent job with the stick since Pods went down. Spot on.

I'll be making my donation shortly. Love the idea.
