  1. I am in the camp of WIlkerson being vastly overrated. He's nothing to holler about in center, he strikes out too much (you want 360 K's from Thome and Wilkerson alone> Me neither), his speed and power hasn't manifested itself the way it has supposed to and he doesn't hit for a high average at all. He draws walks which is a big reason why internet baseball fans love him but I have no interest in Wilkerson personally. Now if you could get him and move him for something useful from a moneyball team, different story
  2. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) I think Brandon Wood is an untouchable for the Angels. He very well may be because Stoneman has shown a reluctance for moving prospects that you don't see from Big market teams by and large. I do however think you could get someone near that ilk for Garland. I mentioned Wood because the Angels are a natural fit since he'd want to resign there and some of the Angels prospects (Mathis, Kotchman, Morales) play positions we won't trade for. I don't know as much about Hendrick or Aybar but I'm sure our scouting staff knows a bit about them
  3. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Same stuff as the Twins? I don't know if Japan uses field turf or the old school turf
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) Hehe, what an absolutely pathetic pickup. This bum was released by a Japanese team and he will probably start for the Twins. given the likely cost its probably a better move than Mike Lowell but Batista is a guy who can rack up homer stats on a last place team, not a guy who is going to make you better
  5. QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) Two bad pitches doesn't turn an all star closer into a Todd Ritchie clone. Anyway, buy low is the motto w/ regards to Lidge Lidge's arm history is a red flag but his contract somewhat negates those concerns. He's a legit stud. He is perfect insurance for Jenks. I just don't know how he'd feel about going to the 8th inning (personally I'd send Jenks to the 8th and have Lidge as my man in the 9th)
  6. If you got the right prospects then somehow, someway-our big league team AND our farm system will have improved in the same offseason as our improved offense can overcome any drop in pitching (given a full season of Contreras doigng well I actually think our rotation will be better this year even without Garland). We lose Chris Young and Gio Gonzalez which hurt but if you replace them with two great prospects in a Garland deal, then you are in good shape. I think you talk to the Dodgers about Billingsley and Guzman. You feel the DBacks out on Stephen Drew (not very damn likely though). You talk to the Angels about Brandon Wood. I love how Kenny Williams has put himself in a position where he doesn't NEED to do something, he has more options than anyone in baseball right now-Billy Beane included
  7. QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) Brian Anderson >>>>> Willie Taveras For the type of player Taveras is, he needs to put up a much higher OBP to be good, and considering the fact he sucked anywhere outside of Minute Maid Park, I wouldn't want to see him in Chicago. I'm doing Garland for Lidge every day of the week and I think the Stros would consider it
  8. Isn't it amazing how badl some publications like Baseball Prospectus SLURP the Sawx for going witht he multi-Gm when I didn't hear as much when the Orioles moved to it? Mut be one of the perks to having Bill James on your payroll
  9. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) This is actually one of the reasons why I think the Vazquez trade was good. We gave up an old, ineffective, and overpaid starter in El Duque and a mediocre reliever in Vizcaino. Don't be surprised if one of these young guys puts up an ERA and WHIP similar to or better than Vizcaino. That's not bad as the last man out of your bullpen. The only player of value that we gave up is Young. Yeah I should hope that Baj could be better than a 1.4-1.5 whip. Viz backers mention his era but he was not remotely good last year.
  10. Just silly. Corey is actually better in center than Pierre. Oh Cubbies
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Yeah, I want a Thome jersey too. On the other hand, you can pull and Sox version of an Ichiro and just put "TIMO". Frank the Tank is on to something......
  12. Blalock isn't Dmitri Young at third, he cna play. Who is this major prospect? One member of the much ballyhooed DVD? I hope so. I would LOVE this trade
  13. Haven't heard anything but I'd imagine the first offer was 3/27, unless they lowballed him at 3/24. Just a guess though. I bet 3/33 or so gets it done
  14. How does Brazoban (he'll bounceback in a middle role), Joel Guzman (he's gonna be a masher, and a guy like Billingsley or Tiffany sound? That might be more than the Dodgers want to give up but its possible the'd do it.
  15. He doesn't want to be here long term, and if he does, he'll have to prove it with a lighter bank account. Just be thankful he had his breakout in 05 rather than in 06 where we would be caught with our pants down. Now we have an opportunity to be proactive rather than reactive
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) He walked out on Cuba didn't he? He must have a s***ty attitude. haha! Anyways, Jose has a home here, Garland has a house. Thats the difference. I hope Contreras signs to stay here awhile
  17. Tavarez would be an excellent option. Outside of that bizarre incident in the nlcs 04, he didn't really cause any problems in St. Louis. He's eccentric if you are looking for a positive spin.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Does anyone else acutally want Jones? Burnitz could be next.... I still think the Cardinals wil be in on him
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) ^^^ You guys say these hyperbolic (is that a word?) statements liek "carried the offense" but thats bulls***. He didn't hit for power, he didn't knock in runs, he didn't walk, he can't play defense and at best he's lockerroom neutral. Just because he was on a championship team doesn't mean that he helped. Another DH around league average would have done more than Jurassic did.
  20. If Padilla is healthier this year than recently, and it appears he is for now, this is a great trade for the Rangers. Not a terrible move for the Phils who wanted to non-tender him anyways
  21. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) If the Giants stay healthy next year and get Morris to help out their starting staff, i would favor them to take the NL West over any other team in that division. He'll be an excellent number 2. The key for the Giants (besides Barry) will be if they get 60 starts out of Schmidt and Morris
  22. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) I've always been a fan of Jones...do you think he'd be a good addition to the team? How much doyou think he'll sign for? Nowhere to play him. I htink he ends up a Cub or a Cardinal. I think he profiles better in the National League anyways
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) I hated Everett's awful lack of production after the All Star break but he did help us in the postseason: Carl Everett's postseason stats: 40 AB's, .300 AVG, .333 OBP, 3 RBI's I also agree that Everett is a terrible fit for the Mariners. He swings for the fences too much so Safeco is a horrible place for him. I said he did bad in the playoffs because at DH when you are slow on the bases, you really need to be a run producer. He seemed to have compltely lost his power as of late and I bet he doesn't crack 15 homers in Seattle
  24. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) You guys can have Jomentum, we don't need him. How about we swap him for McCain? I don't care for Liebermann a whole lot because of his very conservative views on media and stuff like video games. He should leave that s*** to Tipper. I am a registered Demo but I'd vote for McCain over Lieberman. THat'd be an interesting campaign given that its two guys who are better liked by the opposing bases
  25. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) That jerk helped us win a World Series. I think he's really matured since and is a team player. I'd want him back if we still had an open DH spot. He didnt do much to help us win the Series. Nothing more than a replacement player at DH would have done
