Zumaya and Granderson? Wowza. Vazquez would benefit from Comerica but with the Tigers weak farm system, I'm surprised they'd offer up so much. Isn't it funny that Javier Vazquez can reject trades to eight teams yet all of those seem to be on the east coast or midwest when he is demanding a trade so that he can come to the East Coast? I know Philly is on his list too.

Night 1 Notes from the GM Meetings

QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) My point is people think if crede puts up his career numbers he will end up getting 6-8 million once he hits free agency. Boras is good... but not that good. IF Joe were a free agent today (and there were not back concerns) what do you feel he'd get in this market qwerty? Curious to hear your guess -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) Ya, a full run is ridiculous. Plus when it comes to relievers, they aren't going to suffer from the lack of a pitcher because how often does a closer face the opposing teams pitcher (they don't). Now they won't be facing a DH, but they will likely be facing the opposing teams best pinch hitter (if the pitchers spot is up or another weak spot in the lineup). I'd reckon to say there isn't much any of a difference in terms of a closer between the AL and NL. Thanks cheat for pointing this out. I'm sorry, I just laugh at people who throw out really weird stats from time to time. No one is going to convince me its a full run of a difference. I will agree with about .3, that seems very reasonable. However, I think there is some variance. When it comes to a really mediocre pitcher, I think they will see a bit more of a jump when they switch leagues and when it comes to an ace like pitcher, I think they will have a minimal jump in ERA. Yeah .3 would seem about right to me anyways. Closer era's aren't the most important thing in the world either. You would rather a guy get tagged 3 times blowing saves while giving up 4 or more runs than 2 runs 6 times blwoing saves. Also, with inherited runners and the small sample size-it doesn't necessarily tell you as much as it might with a starter. Hoffman is really good and he will be just fine in Cleveland. It is puzzling though that nobody has given Howry a look at closer given that he did actually do the job before. Will he be the Cubs closer by July 1st? Pretty possible

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) I don't mind the idea of Mueller starting over Crede for the next two years but after that we would be screwed unless Josh Fields pans out. And no one knows if that's going to happen. Well two years down the road Mr. Boras would be looming his ugly head anyways so we'd eventually have to find a replacement eitehr way -

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) Is non-tendering Crede really a possibility? Unless his health is worse than we know, I would not like that move. Maybe he's just saying what WOULD need to happen to get Muller to come here, not what is likely. That being said, it woiuld sure be nice if KW could give us an update on Crede at the winter meetings just so we know what is going on. -

Recall that Kenny had supposedly been coveting Hermanson and Hernandez for a long time too. Same logical problem, why did he have to pay millions when he could have had them the year before for nothing. You hear that a lot though. Maybe we shouldn't trade Mac. If this is the new pitcher market, even more overblown than a year ago, then we will struggle to retain more than two of the Garland-Buehrle-Contreras-Garcia unit. Keeping Brandon is making more sense I suppose -
Angels & Sox looking at Crawford

Angels & Sox looking at Crawford
Punch and Judy Garland replied to That funky motion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Haven't read all of the thread but I would imagine someone pointed out that the Rays will have little to no interest in Anderson as they are well stocked in that department. That means that we could keep either Anderson/Young and use one of them in center in 07 and use Crawford to replace Podsednik. I've been pretty much against trading BMac but I'd have to contemplate this one because Crawford is a beast. If there was a way to do it by trading ANY other combo of minor leaguers-sign me up -
Browns' Edwards out for season

Romeo should have had a head job years ago. He looks like a good one. If frye really is an answer, you know Droughns can play so you just try to get your weapons healthy and start loading up a Defense and then you are back in it -
That would be a terrific sign for the Pirates. They need bats and he gives them upside in their offense and would give them a guy who can generate buzz and sell tickets
-
They usually have Gammons show up like every ten minutes or so with an update which is good for juicy rumors. They've been boring the last few years but this year should be pretty exciting!

Nathan Vasher for DPOY
Punch and Judy Garland replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Pro Bowl is a real possibility though for Vash -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 07:11 PM) Folks...don't forget, Byrd made us look bad...but since then, we've added one HELL of a left handed bat to our lineup. Timo's starting?

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Mets fans seem to think that Lo Duca is headed to the Diamondbacks for Javier Vazquez. Hmm. Thats interesting

Punch and Judy Garland replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Actually Peerless Price would be an excellent pickup for the Bears to return kicks or punts -
The way they are goign they'll probably trade Mike Pelfrey before he even signs with them

I love Vasher but his numbers aren't really any better than Champ Bailey's. It would make sense for a Bear to win it though if its close because of their dominance -
IF they get anotehr guy equal to Byrd then its sort of a wash because while Milwood is better than Byrd, Elarton is slightly less.

As a Penn State fan, I'm pissed about drawing FSU. You go with just one loss and nearly make the Natl Championship game and you get saddled with an 8-4 team. Great
-
I'm stuck in southern illinois, am I missing much today? I'm only getting the Colts game now
-
Supposedly they have no interest in bringing back Matsui but at 7 million, I'm not sure they have a choice. We'll see.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 02:54 AM) I don't think the Braves are gonna do that, when he could be a very useful piece in a trade. Unfortunately for them, there's quite a few other options out there, although Estrada would probably be the cheapest. I haven't heard anything lately but I know in October they were seriously considering not offering him arbitration due to cost and the feeling that their in-house options could get it done.
-
The Reds should trade for and extend Marquis. They could use a GB pitcher in that park
-
Who could the minor leaguer be? I guess with Lo Duca's mone it'd be a B prospect. Haven't heard much lately on Johnny Estrada but if he is non-tendered he'd be a good guy for a team that needs a catcher

For those who bought a McCarthy Jersey
Punch and Judy Garland replied to SoxPride56's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Miggy Cabrera changed from 20 to 24 (or the reverse of that) after they won the World Series. No reason why other than they want to change sometimes
