  1. Hmm. Byrd would be a very solid sign don't you think?
  2. QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) does anyone get that kornheiser is joking? apparently not
  3. Bad news for fantasy owners! He would have been a bargain player as his numbers would have spiked outside of Petco. He took a hometown discount, pretty admirable. I guess the Cardinals amp up their pursuits of Zito/Burnett and Huff/Jacque Jones
  4. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) i know what you are saying. Would you rather see Frank retire or hit 500 in another uniform. Rather see him it 500. If he's in another uniform-its because of the Sox and not him. It would be very selfish to want him to retire after we let him go
  5. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) yeah but we will still see a White Sox break 500 Home Runs if Frank doesn't come back. sorry but it doesn't seem like consolation at all. Hope Jim gets it though, and here
  6. I think he has a season of 130 or more games left in him. I really do
  7. Hoffman and Nomar would be solid, smart additions to the team. If you lose Millwood and Elarton, maybe you can fill that spot with a Jeremy Sowers-type but you probably need to either deal for or sign a free agent starter.
  8. I know someone who has it on authority (I haven't brought up the subject in over a year though) that Kenny can't stand Frank. Not sure if anything changed there
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Would Owens have been suspended for his remarks on McNabb if he hadn't made a mess of things with his contract dispute, previous public statements about the team, his behavior in training camp which earned him a week's suspension, or his fight in the locker room with Hugh Douglas? Certainly not. The crime wasn't punished, the criminal was-so to speak. If a guy had done that as his first transgression-say Torry Holt had said it-there would be no suspension. However, another guy probably would have apologized to his teammate. Bly and Owens both apologized to their teams but did NOT apologize to McNabb or Harrington.
  10. I think Kenny Williams has wanted Frank gone for a long time because he doesn't like him. Franks injuries and the team's success have allowed Williams to kick Frank to the curb. Great point about loyalty. Everyone got high and mighty the last few years when players left our team and weren't loyal. Well remember that its a two way street
  11. Its nice that he retired on his own terms and not because of surgery. hopefully Smoltz will be able to do the same thing in a few years
  12. I would prefer two but you have to consider that Dunn MIGHT not be in the NL as of the Gm meetings. If you are trading for that part, see if you cna hold him off for a week or two just to be sure. I thik Perez is going to be a nice bounceback candidate. Jackson is blocked by Tony Clark and JJ Hardy is not a fantasy starter. Berkman and Dunn are not that far apart in fantasy value overall.
  13. I did not say that Bly should be suspended for the season or anything. Personally, I'd sit his ass on the bench this Sunday and not pay him and tell him he can come back the next week. I have NEVER read a story questioning Harrington's work ethic or character. He's obviously struggled.
  14. He has a lot left and never should have been let go. I hope nothing but the best for Frank and if he comes back and kills the Sox, I will not be rooting against him
  15. Listen, I feel the Eagles were in their right to deactivate and suspend Owens who was a horrible guy for the front office and McNabb to have to deal with. That being said, Dre Bly is getting a pass because the media hates Joey Harrington. What he said was terrible. I like Dre as a player a lot but what he said was not something you can defend. The kicker is the reaction. Over 50 percent of espn.commers feel Bly should NOT be suspended or even fined for his comments!!!!Take the words he used. Now I know that TO was suspended for the summation of his insubordination but if you look at the two incidents-what Bly said was truly worse. Since Harringotn is in limbo there-management is going to ignore it. Matt Millen is a joke for letting Bly get away with this and the sports fans in this country are a joke for thinking this is no big deal.
  16. fun to read about him in 3 nights in august. Seemed like a great guy. I hope him and his wife enjoy his retirement. He finished on a high note with a great season for playoff team
  17. Sad day to me. That may be a minority opinion but we lost (in all likelihood) the greatest player in franchise history today
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) Just for the hell of it: Propose a trade that you think would be equal to the yankees deal, from the sox. I don't have the figures here but Posada has 2 years/20 million left. I bet Lieberthal makes at least 7 this year. This sounds like one of those deals where neither team will come out much ahead. Abreu is awesome though. I take it the Yanks will then sign Molina and use Liebrthal as an expensive backup catcher
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 11:41 PM) Isnt an arthritic hip what prematurely ended Albert Belle's career? I hope this isnt the same condition If he broke down and the O's signed him it would be the ultimate fool me once story
  20. Won't a no-trade be meaningless since he's not far from being a 10/5 guy anyways? Sorry if someone already mentioned that
  21. SOunds kind of dumb to me to go 5 years if you are scared just because some other team will go 5. If you don't believe he can go 5 years, you shouldn't make the offer
  22. I love Giles and he is well worth 11 million next season and probably the one after that. Will he be worth 11 million (more if its backloaded) when he's 39? Doubt it. I think they sign Giles and then forgo Burnett to try to trade for Zits
  23. I probably like this deal better for the Yanks than the Phils. Given money and age Posada- and Liberthal are near a wash with Jorge obviously a bit better. That leaves Duncan/Pavano for Abreu which doesn't seem even to me, even if Abreu makes a ton of money. How long will he last in Centerfield for the Yanks? I don't buy that he'd be terribly good there. He would be an offensive force as usual though. Pavano? Eh. Not too optimistic on him, especially at that Philly park
  24. Yeah I think the Atlanta pitching decline will be something over a decade, if at all, not something you see right away. Farns in NY is a joke. I can't wait to see him with the bases loaded in Fenway with Big Papi up. He's mentally weak
  25. Yeah the 98 Broncos, the 04 Eagles, these teams easily turned it on. The Colts will do the same. My opinion is that its hard to say but its Tony Dungy's team. He knows his team better than anyone on a message board or an analyst at espn or SI. His decision will be one I won't second-guess.
