who do you start?
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
Yeah I've lost faith in Chatman so it was between Burleson and Bruce. I have Bulger so I might as well just hope for the connection for double points -
I saw a SB shufflee in the wally world dump bin last winter. Might be able to find one there if you feel like fishing
-
3 players, one spot: Nate Burleson, Ike Bruce, Antonio Chatman. They combined for about 4 catches last week so please inspire me to pick one of them!
-
good question. I am curious as well. I know to vcr is really easy but not sure about dvd

I am not in the camp that Wang is all that special, I'd rather have Rowand. I think Wang will be a 4th starter. There is nothing wrong with that and he'll probably have some winning seasons but I don't think he's a guy you gun for

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) I'd have to agree with most that has been said in here so far, but I look at this is another way too. The Sox have had plenty of offers and situations where Row could have been dealt in the past, despite being a bench player on this team for years....faith was never lost, and the Sox refused to let him go in a deal. I am one to believe that 2004 was NOT a career year from Aaron and he will put numbers up like that again. I don't see the logic in shopping him around when his value is much lower than it ever has been. Ive said it once and I'll say it again, there is nobody else I would want roaming CF in the American League other than Row (including that azz clown Hunter). He may not be a cluctch hitter, but he is the kind of grinder player that defines this team, just because we won, the philosphy should not be changed to prepare for the future. Anderson deserves to play and will, imo not at the expense of Row. It was mere months ago when the Sox were working to get Griffey and many people refused to let him start over Rowand....and rightfully so, very few baseball fans know what Rowand brings to the table defensively besides Sox fans. If you would rather have Rowand over Griffey (when healthy) or Edmonds then you are being completely foolish. Sheffield has an OPS of nearly 900 while Rowand is in the low 700s. I don't know if Sheffield is the right guy but I think that trading Rowand makes a ton of sense. IF the scouting reports on Anderson are correct-we won't lose anything in the move in center and we'd upgrade another part of our offense/team
-
I would do Rowand for Sheffield were it not for the issue of Sheffield demanding an extension if he is traded. I believe he is a FA after this year because I think he signed a three year deal and has been a Yank for two years. I don't believe option years were involved although deferred money was. Sheffield in this park in a contract year could be phenomenal but you'd need to feel him out to make sure he isn't goign to be a prick when he comes here.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) His shoulders are oddly shaped and it's scaring the children. lol, and that is kinda true
-
Given our quality outfield prospects, there is no reason any one of our current three outfielders should be signed to a long term deal. It'd be bad business. I think using Rowand to get a 1B/DH bat or another reliever is a good idea because I think that Anderson shouldn't sit on the bench and has proved all he needs to at the minor league level in my opinion

I realize that Klesko is a low risk/high reward guy, provided of course that San Diego pays his entire salary which they'll do unless they take back another bad contract. That said, I just don't know if he has much left, plus he's not been an AL guy which will provide a tough adjustment anyways. There are worse DH options out there but I tend to think of him more as a Plan D guy

NFL awards Super Bowl to KANSAS CITY????
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Fenway's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Roof, no roof. It still sucks to have a Superbowl in a city where its ten degrees -
As much as they like Linebrink I don't see them trading Otsuka if they let Hoffman walk which seems probably
-
This should put an end to the Klesko-Finley talks

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) how much credit do you give Brian Cashman for getting A-Rod? Last time I checked, the Cubs farm system still hasn't produced a servicable postion player. That dates back to Grace's days. I think Cashman should get a healthy amount of credit for A-Rod. He worked pretty hard and got it done. It was impressive. You are correct about not developing a position player but that is just one facet of a farm system. If you trade your guys for permanent fixtures (which the Cardinals have shown works great) then its just as good-albeit pricier. That's only half the argument though. They've developed guys like Zambrano and Prior (although they didn't have to mold him much).
-
IMO, Posada is unmoveable with his contract (short of them paying part of it which would make no sense). Plus, the Yanks traded away Navarro who could have been a long term answer. Maybe they could hoodwink the Mets into taking him but you'd have to think theyend up with one of the FA guys
-
Makes sense for both sides. Diaz moves into RF for the Metros while they can play Nady at first if they are so inclined wiht his good bat. Dave Roberts a FA or will he go to LF/bench?
-
no problem at all

QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) So why didn't Konerko win it for the AL? He carried the White Sox offense to a World Series title.. Maybe I'm confused by what you were trying to say but Paulie's postseason has nothing to do with a vote that takes place near the first of October. So Vlad's lack of success or Pujols success shoul be eliminated from your mind when deciding. I think Pujols deserved the award plus its sort of a nice thing for a guy who would have won it in any of the last five years if he weren't in the league with Barry Bonds

QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) Double over rowands head or flares in front of him for a single? Hmm... It is amazing how we have a guy on our team who is one of the top outfielders at getting to the ball ( far and away too) that we try and downplay his defense. His arm blew this past season and he still has not learned how to field a ball on the ground... but getting to balls? Wouldn't want anyone other than him outside of hunter and maybe sizemore. again qwerty, I'm not tryiong to knock Rowand because he's probably in the conversation for the best 6-7 CF's in the game but you'd rather have him in center than Edmonds?
-
I've yet to see a Chicago signing sell out before the day of (they sold Kerry Wood tickets-probably too many-and still took sales). I would encourage you to phone ahead and order now. Admission is pretty much always $10. Park at the nearby CTA lot for a few quarters as opposed to the $10-15 garage parking they have. If you've never been, you;ll have a great time. I'm in for Garcia
-
Jim Edmonds plays the shallowest center I can think of. YOu want to play shallow if you are really good. That is because you can take away bloopers while still getting to shots to the wall (he does). When you play deep you will take away extra-base hits but you give up a lot more singles. That doesn't mean Rowand isn't extremely good out there but ideally you'd have a guy who can play shallow and get to deep

I think people sort of underestimate how expensive it is to live as a ballplayer. You have to order out a lot, buy dinner/suits/drinks for rookies. You likely have multiple residences due to ST, where you play, and where you live in the offseason. Every time you go to a bar, a hotel, or a restaurant you have to tip generously or you risk being in the newspapers for not tipping well (Pippen, etc.). Lastly, its not like you can wear a Men's Warehouse Suit off the rack unless you want to be belittled by your teammates. I'm not trying to say that you should feel sorry for these guys or anything or that millions of dollars isn't a lot of money but there are a lot of costs that are sort of hidden. That is not to mention an agents take. Haven't you noticed that fans will say that a guy has 100 million dollars because that is his contract? After income taxes, agent cuts, etc that figure is pretty misleading when you think about it. Just a few points to ponder

Buehrle's Wheaties Box in the Stores Now
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Al Lopez Ghost (old)'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have a few boxes. Grant Hill ROY Frosted Minis. Negro League box. All-pro box of Elway-Marino-Aikman. The new Pujols box. I have the Mark box (although I want a few more) and I'm still planning on getting some old Denver Bronco ones. They are kind of cheap fun things to buy -
If you can't get along with Miguel Tejada, you are a total jerkoff. Who couldn't be friends with that guy?
-
How many teams have added a top 3 MVP candidate (for a platoon first baseman) and he got a 35-40 hr guy at third. Has he had stuff that hasn't worked? Sure. But you can't just say his moves for the other two were "good". I think you need to be more objective about this. Consider the Nomar gamble too. Didn't work but it was very creative and they didn't give up much. Heck, getting Murton as a throw in was outstanding
