Gerry Hunsicker to help turn Tampa around.
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Steff's topic in The Diamond Club
Doesn't it seem like Bobby V is using the D-Rays for leverage to get more out of the Dodgers? I think Tampa wants to use Bobby V for credibility in its search. I think their link is a dual-mirage -
Interesting on Hunter. That makes sense. Improves their defense in a goofy park, helps with the salaries at least a little bit, and rids Philly of Kenny Lofton who no longer steals and is misplaced as a 2-hitter. Hunter-Thome seems win-win although I would have guess Philly would want an arm like JC Romero or someone for the pen

No surprise that yahoo sports is reporting that the Twins are interested in Jim Thome. Obviosuly, as the brief summary pointed out, the Twins will need much of his salary paid by the Phils. We'll see what Gillick wants to do, and the relationship between how much the Twins are willing to pay vs. how much they are willign to surrender. While Thome will certainly be floated in rumors including the Chicago White Sox, The Anaheim Angels, the Seattle Mariners, and the BoSox (just to name a few potentials)-the Twins rumor makes some sense. How much will the Phillies want of the loaded Twins system (you can assume that Liriano would be off-limits-although who really knows?) Kubel and any other OF would seem to be of little interest to the Phils unless they were willing to depart with Bobby Abreu. But would the city of Philadelphia buy into a team that trades Thome and Abreu in the same offseason? From the Twins perspective, Thome gives you a ton of thunder when healthy but isn't it a problem that your three best players (Morneau-Mauer-Thome) are all left-handed? Hmm. This will be interesting to follow. If the Phillies eat 75 percent or more of the deal, I think Liriano is a Philie.

I'm suddenly rooting for the Angels..and
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Wanne's topic in Pale Hose Talk
yahoo claims that Erstad would be sent in a deal for Manny (obviously not the main piece). THis would open first abse and send back at least a little salary. Boston, although perhaps no longer a moneyball team (who knows?) would seem to have little to no interest in Erstad. I hope Kenny doesn't make his Erstad wishes come through ebcause we don't need him at first -

The Angels should be commended for not raising their ticket prices. With that in mind, you gotta figure it will be hard to add a Manny. I'm rooting for him to go to the Mets just because then he's out of our league which will weaken Boston. You don't get better from trading a superstar in most cases. I like Glaus and everything, but Glaus and Luis Gonzalez do not make Boston a better team or even nearly as good of a team -
QUOTE(mccarthyp @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Can somebody help me? I've been looking for the soft-cover Sports Illustrated Commemorative Edition (not he regular WS edition or the Hardcover special Edition) on the World Series. Someone posted a copy of the cover here, but I haven't been able to find in anywhere locally. I live in Colorado, so maybe it isn't available here. I tried contacting SI, but they didn't seem to know what I was talking about. The photo has AJ and Jenks hugging in the middle. Brian Anderson and Brandon McCarthy are coming in on the far right. Has anyone seen this issue? Can anyone get a copy of it for me? I would, of course, pay you for it (I could even throw in a McCarthy rookie card). THe seven dollar one? I got mine at the local Barnes and Noble yesterday. You should try there first although you may be on to somethign with it being regional

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) You really shouldn't do this to yourself, by making these sort of posts you leave yourself open to a s*** load of flaming. If there's no green some people can't pick up on the sarcasm. I usually don't do green. If people can't pick up sarcasm, thats their problem. Plus I wear flame-retardant gear when I'm at the computer

Which Team will finish last in the central
Punch and Judy Garland replied to rangercal's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm buying the Bucks. Bogut has so much less pressure with Magloire (who is a better player I think than you suggest) and I think Bobby Simmons will be that guy that provides the Bucks a chance to win when Redd isn't on and I think thats big. -
I think if there weren't the biggest regular season football game in probably the last decade, they might have put the Sox on again. I do think that by now its sort of "old news" because they wrapped it up during the middle of the week in game 4. Pats-Colts is the easy choice for the cover given that its MNF and simply an enormous game

Bulls finish last and make the playoffs. The Atlantic on the other hand..... -
I have a hard time buying that he will be successful in Washington if he was struggling at Petco. He was hitting about 82 on the gun at some point this summer which is just not good enough for a righty
-
Especially at Petco. RFK was an extreme pitchers park and now he lands in another. I imagine that lawrence must make a lot of money so this is a bad salary swap? What about Joe Randa? Was he a free agent or something? I would have though he'd be in SD for awhile. This might be the final nail in the Sean Burroughs coffin in California
-
Why dump Contreras? I know he's valuable on the market, but that is because he's really good. Which is the same reason we should keep him. I am not in favor of breaking up our fab 4

Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 06:52 PM) It all depends on whether they can trade Troy Glaus. If they can, Tracy stays at 3rd, and it's the perfect solution for them. If they can't, Tracy's the best trading chip they have for the young pitching they need. And I don't know if Jackson is even going to stick at 1B for them long - term, he's terrible defensively. Would be perfect as an AL DH though. Is Tracy a good 3rd-sacker? I know he played there but not sure about his D. Tony Clark was awesome for them last eyar but that team doesn't know if its coming or going. THey have top prospects ready but are held down by Vets. Thats fine if you are a winning team like the Angels but the Dbacks aren't very good. -
I imagine its different than the hardbound one (I would think anyways) you get for subscribing but there IS one at Barnes and Noble. Not sure what the sell by date is for it but there was a big stack when I went today, its only 7 bones, so you guys gotta pick one up. Either read it, save it, frame it, get it autographed-whatever. Good buy though if you ask me

Linder Agrees to Sell Reds
Punch and Judy Garland replied to SoxFanForever's topic in The Diamond Club
Their new ownermight not have a lot of influence over what happens with the Reds and their outfield situation, but there is a chance that a guy comes in and moves Griffey somewhere (or tries to) -

Don't forget the Mets launched a tv network. That will bring in cash. I think they land Billy Wagner unless he decides he doesn't want to pitch in NY ( I kinda doubt that). Their plan B will likely be BJ Ryan although I think they get Billy. I think they won't make too many other moves outside of the pen. With Piazza gone, they obviously will do something about first base. I imagine they will be rebuffed in pursuits of Howard/Thome adn Delgado. Thus, they are the team that I think will make a big push for Paulie (and people aren't mentioning hte Mets enough as far as their chances to get him). Then again, and I'm actually kinda serious, he's not Latin and thats been the direction Omar has gone in since he came aboard. -
And your AL Playoff, Steroid using Outfielder is..

Carlos Lee wins Silver Slugger award..

But a trade has to have a winner and a loser! It can't work for both teams! -
Not worht its own thread but your B&N currently has the Pods issue that came before we on it all (still wrapping my head around that statement) and they have the commemorative issue for $7 that is about us being world champions. I won't read mine because I want to keep it in great condition to get it signed but it looks like a nice item for those of us trying to load up on memorabilia on the cheap. It has the shot with Blum, AJ, Jenks, etc.

Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread

Didn't read the last four pages but there is something I want to be very clear on with Delgado. His deal is backloaded and the Marlins lost 20 million or more this year. He is goign to be a casualty of that situation. The biggest suitor for him will be the Mets who they don't want to trade him for. A big IF here, IF you agree to pay the remainder of the salary for Delgado, you will not have to give up a ton. The aformentioned deal would likely get it done. If a suitor waffles on money, the prospects will have to be megaprospects. The bottom line is that if you will pay the next 37 million or so over three years, you will get Delgado for less than he is worth. With Thome and Sweeney as options and Kong as a FA, that lessens the demand for all of them a littl e bit and lowers the price (for trades) -

7 years? No way. See ya Paulie. Even if it works the first tow years you have a Thome situation after that. The Carlos Delgado bandwagon is starting its engine -
I think in a way it would be shady to trade him after he gutted his way through the summer with a bad back putting the interests of the team above his health
