  1. QUOTE(ISF @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) I have to agree with the anti-Griffey sentiment. If we're going to trade for a Reds DH let's get Dunn. I don't see either passing waivers though, since the Spank-mes need OF help. 1)Dunn would get blocked by the first team in the waiver process. 2)If you think Griffey costs alot, then Dunn is going to give you a heartattack in what he's going to cost. 3)Dunn K's too much. That's the reason we want Griffey. We don't want inning ending K's. Griffey is a guy who could move guys over. Dunn is a better version of PK I suppose. I'd take Griffey over that anyday.
  2. QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Chris Young for Ken Griffey is not a good deal for the Sox, as much as I want us to win a WS. 1. What are the odds Griffey even makes it through August-Sept into October this year to do us any good? 2. In 1999, when Griffey was still in his prime, he went 2 for 15 in the ALDS. He's just one bat. Sure he's hitting better than Everett from the left side, but the marginal difference between him and Everett is anything from a slight positive to a slight negative depending on which one of them got hot. 3. Next year, Griffey's $12.5 million is better spent signing AJ Burnett. Pitching is what is carrying this Sox team, and what will continue to lead us of KW is smart. 4. Griffey isn't reliable enough to count on filling any position over the 2006-08 years of his deal. He isn't good enough to play the outfield anymore. He's a very expensive DH. 5. Is Griffey going to be happy as a DH? Is he going to be happy with the Sox? Did you read his comment about having spring training in Tucson? He cares more about where he plays spring training than he does getting to the World Series. 6. Chris Young is the best athlete and has the best speed of any player in our system. You can bet the year he makes the majors he will be better than Ken Griffey Jr. is at that time. Get off the Griffey trade. The Sox were lucky it was killed if that is in fact what happened. He's healthy already. Get over it. Plus he would be playing DH. I don't see you bringing up the 95 numbers when he was pretty damn good in the playoffs. Griffey > Everett, no matter how you slice it. We're not signing AJ Burnett. Main reason for him not coming here is because he said he wouldn't sign an extension with us. That means he won't be signing with the White Sox. Plus he is no more consistant than Jose Contreras and you use your 4th starter in the playoffs twice at most. I'd say spending cash on Burnett is dumber than gettting Griffey. Griffey most likely would be happy as a DH since he would get a couple of days off in the OF and that would probably prolong his career. Get off the prospects. The White Sox could have a chance to trade Chris Young and BMac for Randy Johnson(in his prime years) and you would say no because of the awesome potential. Screw potential, we're trying to win it all. We have enough young guys on our team and in our system to survive without one Chris Young.
  3. I think Mariano will be a strong contender. He's been lights out this year. I also think Garland should get it over Buehrle. Look at the teams Garland has shut down and look at the teams Buerhle's struggled with. Kalapse, I think since the stats are close for the most part those 3 wins would help Garland. I suggest putting up the game by game splits as well. And doesn't Garland have more QS than Buehrle?
  4. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) and once again, i'll get my hopes up and they'll be crushed and we'll all cry. I'll be the first one to do so.
  5. Crede > Your Favorite DH Ever!
  6. QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) Can anyone tell me updated attributes for guys like AJ, Pods, and Cotts? They suck in the game, they arn't that bad in real life. For Pods, I just upped his contact and his patience at the plate. For AJ I kept his contact and gave him more power. For Cotts, I just made whatever he throws have more movement and gave him more control over those pitches.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Just a heads up for now to people...Ozzie is slated to host This Week in Baseball next weekend, according to the preview at the end of this week's show. I haven't a clue when it's on in Chicago (probably right before Saturday baseball on Fox), but it's on at 12:30 p.m. PST out here in LA. 11 or 11:30 on Fox Central time.
  8. EAT CHIT BISHES. Nice stat OM. I didn't know the streak was that long. Any chance we extend that any longer??
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) Justin Upton is faster than BJ Upton. I don't know, my TB friends say that it's BJ that's faster than Gathright. Maybe he's still slower than Justin Upton is. I have no idea. I know one of the Uptons are supposedly faster than Gathright though.
  10. Don't forget BJ Upton and Delmon Young.
  11. Joey Gathright.
  12. You can't. You have the bullpens right there and where the bullpen's used to be, there are seats occupying that. It's not going to happen. And the Cell being smaller has won us a couple of games. AJ's Walkoff comes to mind. This team is just stuck on the longball and pulling the damn ball. It's our offense that's a problem. I could tell when Joel freakin Piniero only allows 2 runs against us.
  13. Where's a Cowboys one?
  14. It's alright I guess.
  15. I heard it will be announced on Monday.
  16. QUOTE(juddling @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) I don't think Griffey and his off-the-field actions are in question here. What i was upset about was the fact that we have the best team in baseball....a decent ballpark......dedicated fans....and a very nice city and still players like Junior don't want to play here. Maybe i'm one of those south-side fans that always feel slighted but i get tired of everyone wanting to play in NY, or Boston,,or (shudder) the North side. What do the Sox have to do to get a few more name players in here??? I don't think Griffey have even been close to a series in his career and certainly the Reds aren't going any time soon...so why wouldn't he want to come here???? The spring training excuse is a joke...and it's not like he has a history with WS fans (like say..Torri Hunter). Don't get me wrong.....i'm not terribly upset we didn't get Junior but at the same time...i do feel a bit slighted that he wouldn't even consider coming here. so to that....again......Junior...F U :finger :finger :finger Newsflash, he doesn't like the Yankees either. Doesn't really care for Boston or the Cubs either. So to you, I say "F U Juddling"
  17. I'd say this deal shows Hawk fans that they are at least trying now which you really couldn't say in year's past. That's enough to bring fans back to the UC for the Hawks.
  18. I'd bring him on board and have ST in FLA. It's funny how so many ppl are quick to say F Griffey. I bet those are the ones that would buy his jersey if he ever came here.
  19. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) A lot of people can't name 2 players on the Blackhawks right now (although I surprisingly can). Tumu Ruttu(sp?) and Jocelyn Thibault and that's all I know. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) nobody knows more about sports than that guy. You can know all you want, but when they drop the womens golf or waterskiing nationals question on you, you are f***ed. Exactly.

F hybrid. I'll stick with "GAAAAAAAAASSSS"
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) Yeah. Guess who one of the two is. Steff?
  22. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Grossman's injury alone didn't doom that offense. He only played 3 games (more like 2 3/4), it's not like that's enough evidence to determine whether or not the offense would have survived. It's not like he played great in those games either, with a 1/3 TD-INT ratio and only a 56% completion percentage. Hell, Hutchinson had a better passer rating. None of those teams exactly had stellar defenses either. It's hard to believe that he was merely a scapegoat if he didn't know his own offense. I do realize that 3 games is a small sample size, but from that sample size it was working. Jones was running, Grossman was passing and everything looked good offensively for the most part. You can blame Shea for Jonathan Quinn, but to me, there was other problems(mostly injuries) that caused the Bears to suck.
  23. I would do it, but I don't know much about golf or the NHL. Honestly, I can't name more than 2 players on the Blackhawks right now.
  24. I think Shea was a scapegoat for last year. When Grossman was in there and the offensive line was healthy, The Bears were top 10 in every offensive category. It's when Jonathan Quinn had to take the helm when everyone started going downwards.
  25. QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) Let's see now. Griffey has been injured EVERY YEAR of the last how many years?? Sure he's dodged the bullet this year, SO FAR. Does that mean he even makes it to October?? It seems to me you are betting the farm on a highly risky player. And I think Griffey has negative value in subsequent years because he is absorbing money we could spend on more reliable players. Remember Carlos Lee? Wouldn't you rather have him as the DH? Didn't we get rid of him because he was making $8 million/year? I'm not suggesting we reverse the trade for Pods, just that there may be hitters cheaper, but more reliable and a lot younger than Ken Griffey. But let's also look at the marginal value again. 1995 ALDS SEA NYY W 5 23 9 9 0 0 5 7 2 4 .391 .444 1.043 ALCS SEA CLE L 6 21 2 7 2 0 1 2 4 4 .333 .440 .571 1997 ALDS SEA BAL L 4 15 0 2 0 0 0 2 1 3 .133 .188 .133 In 1995, in the prime of his career 10 years ago, Ken Griffey had a great postseason. Then in 1997, when he was still a superstar, Ken Griffey laid an egg. 2 hits in 15 ABs. Remember what happened to Frank Thomas in 2000? MVP season. He and Maggs and Lee couldn't hit a lick in 3 games against Seattle. Griffey sounds sexy because he's a name. He was once good. But trading for such faded stars on their last legs is not the way to build a winning team year after year. It is certainly not worth giving up one of our top prospects. Baseball America lists Chris Young as our 6th best prospect. But he also rates as our best baserunner and best athlete. I'm willing to take my chances in the postseason with Carl Everett if we can't add a bat that costs a whole lot less risk than Ken Griffey. And I believe the Sox will still be kicking ass in 2008 with Chris Young in the outfield and Brandon McCarthy on the mound. Or just maybe, follow me here because it's a really really crazy theory. You ready? Okay. Maybe, just maybe, he's healthy. OMFG, I know. Crazy theory right??
