LUIS ROBERT TRADED
Thing is, Robert wasn’t going to recover value here because he is a player that needs other great hitters around him. I said this last summer. He’s not a Soto, Judge type hitter. But he’s a Schwarber type hitter; when there’s good players around him, he can carry you. When there’s not, he looks like hot garbage.

It depends on where by Wolf Lake. My guess is they want it right off the Metra stop allowing people to walk to the stadium pretty easily from the SSL.

I think the dangerous game was when Pritzker flat out told Warren that they didn’t plan to talk about the stadium at all in 2026 assemblies after the Bears waited 3 years and they were public in wanting shovels in the ground in 2025. Pritzker overplayed his hand. If the Bears leaving gets the govt to reassess how they do business in this state, then it’s a long term win for residents. It just sucks they had to potentially lose the Bears to finally get a mirror up.

This is what I expect as well. I know the Bears wanted their own sports book as well when this all started. I could easily see them build something like the battery in Atlanta, but upgraded. The question is, will stadium tour concerts end up there? Taylor Swift for example? it’s funny seeing some national media talking about this though. Like Rachel Nichols went off on the Bears calling them broke because they can’t stay afford to stay in IL.

That last paragraph hits the nail on the head. Problem is, politicians in this state first look after their pockets being filled before doing anything for anyone else. Wasted land be damned.

Fans and politicians will be pissed if they leave, but it’s the very same folks saying don’t give them a dime though the Bears are asking for money for infrastructure around the stadium. Bears leaving kind of has to happen tbh.

I disagree with that. The reason why this became news is because IL governement, specifically JB Pritzker, told the Bears they have no intention on discussing this in 2026. They wanted shovels in the ground Spring 2025 at latest. so the Bears are pissed off. I honestly think it’s more 60-40 the Bears are in AH, but 40 is large and looming

This right here needs to happen to be honest. The state, city and county are all ignorant when it comes to big business and the policies put in place. No one in this state looks at themselves and says "What are we doing here?" In fact, you have many of them telling bold face lies "There are businesses who do support the head tax, so they wouldn't leave" and they can't name one company when pressed. It would suck to lose the Bears to NWI, but at the same time, if it gives the state the kick in the butt it needs to reevaluate things, then maybe it's a loss that just has to happen. In addition, I think as long as they are not compromising on quality, a big stadium in the Chicagoland region will definitely attract all different acts. Heck, Indy is closer and more accessible for quite a few people in Illinois and Indy vs Arlington Heights. Different teams have also shown you that this is more than a viable option - so I wouldn't be concerned with a loss of fans. I say this as someone in the West Burbs That land can be sold if it's as good of an idea that everyone wanted it to be. In addition to this, I think the reason why we are here is because no one is taking this serious. While Illinois is in the catbird's seat, they are blowing it and opening the door for Indiana. And for them to go public about looking at NWI means they have had discussions. And as someone who knows some people in Indy, they are willing to offer a ton of concessions as well as contribute to building the stadium.

Season Ticket / Sox Fest Tickets Question
Howdy all, I was looking at getting some Sox Fest tickets, but it seems like the format got changed a bit this year. Looks like Night 1 is only for Season Ticket Holders. So this brought me down the lane of looking into season tickets, because why not? With that stated, deposits online aren't bad. I was wondering a few quick things, however: If you get a Season Ticket package, are Sox Fest tickets free? Are there any plans that are limited or exempt? How much are tickets? I'd be looking at upper deck more than likely. Is the deposit refundable if I decide I don't like the seats or change my mind? When is the typical last payment due date? I'll hang up and listen.

Honestly it makes sense. Double the house, half the taxes

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
Yep, MLB Network reported about an hour and a half ago. Padres are an option, but they're moreso looking for a power bat (they have the 2nd least HRs in the majors behind the Pirates). The Phillies were a legit option, and with the Phillies completing their trade, the Mets offer went lower. Padres don't have the prospect match the Sox want. So unless they get creative (Suarez gets moved to the Sox who flip him), Robert is staying.

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
I think Robert is a good enough player to keep around. He's also been a good soldier, especially factoring in that he was expecting to compete for years and the team has been bad. I think Robert is the type that would be very good on a strong team - hence, if you're not going to commit to improving the team around him, don't bother not trading him. I think he would fit well with the Padres and Dodgers.

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
I'd be okay with this as long as the Sox realized that Luis Robert is not Shohei Ohtani or Juan Soto - guys who can change the lineup all by themselves. Robert needs protection. If you're going to actually invest in the lineup, I'm happy to keep Robert here. He's still great defensively and he would be cheap relatively speaking. With that stated, beyond getting him legit hitters in the lineup, get a whole new medical staff. I mean, tear the whole staff down to the studs. I want no holdovers.

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
They're probably going to have to package Robert with Houser/Civale to get anything worthwhile. They just screwed up by not trading him last year. The only reason why there isn't more outrage is because Jed is back to being Jed - got his extension and is playing things safe again. Just the way Ricketts loves it. For them not to end up with two legit starters and closers, is a huge failure IMO.

Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
I'm in the opinion that even if they are not in your plans, and you don't believe long term in them as prospects - you still reward someone who's doing well with a call up when you don't have a block. Vaughn is not a prospect. He's not blocked. Been spoon fed pretty much his whole career. He hasn't worked out. Vaughn is not a block. When you show your actual prospects that you will reward outstanding performance by calling up the players, it builds a good morale around the place instead of creating a jailed mindset; "No matter what I do, I'm never getting out of here so why should I try hard" Lastly, I honestly believe that Getz is waiting to trade Robert, then will promote Elko. What does one have to do with the other? To me, nothing. To Getz, he probably sees it as, it frees up a roster spot, and I'm not creating an Elko vs Vaughn thing. The problem is, the fans have already done that by not calling him up. Elko could DH. Or Vaughn can. Heck, send Vaughn back to the OF for all I care if you're adamant that he has to play for the Chicago White Sox.

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
The problem is, they have no one in that lineup, or even in the minors to call up in which you have to respect as a pitcher. So with that stated, pitchers are able to throw whatever junk they want to him. Sox did nothing to sign some decent hitters to up his trade value. He needs protection and doesn't have it. If I'm a pitcher, why would I ever throw him a fastball even on an 0-3 count? It's a Catch-22 right now with him in this lineup. Yes, you will see him flourish with some of the better lineups in the MLB. The Sox have an absolute putrid one. Might be bottom 5 hitting lineup ever put together by the time it's said and done.

Sox looking at building in South Loop
Hearing that it won't hold much more than it can now. I think that's a dumb idea.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
I tend to agree with you. Their position prospects are brutal. Colson is a huge question mark, Teel is a C, Robert will be gone and we know the rest are a bucket of suck. They would need huge investments into FA/international FA and to stop drafting LHP only in the first round

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
It's a smart move, technically. IIRC, the approval process is a bit different if it's a current shareholder, it allows him to control who gets his team, keeps the capital gains tax low, and ups the value of his franchise when if he gets the stadium built before his shares are sold.
-
Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
I dream of a world where the Sox end up building a stadium at the 78 with Justin Ishbia touring the new facility with Related just to see how Tray reacts.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
I mean, it makes sense. Get more liquid now, get the stadium going, then sell probably back at 2.05 or near it. We would all rejoice.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
David Kaplan did say last week that he wouldn't be surprised if by the end of this calendar year that JR had sold or was fully in the process of selling the team. My guess is that maybe they do have a deal in place which is why Ishbia stopped his pursuit of the Twins. It wouldn't make sense for him otherwise.
