Romo had maybe 3 great years. I wouldn't take Eli over Cutler, but I would take his career. Eli was a frontrunner who did great with talent around him, but he was mediocre during the regular season and never elevated his team unless it was in a Super Bowl. Flacco as well. Palmer had 1 stud season and wasn't the same afterwards. Stafford is very questionable. Schuab was def questionable too. -

Yes, it sounds like he's for sure out for Sunday and they may not rush him back necessarily. -
Best plan I can come up with that the FO would probably go with is: Sign two of Ryu, Giolito and Flaherty to one year deals. I think Giolito will show he still can be a great 4/5th starter. I think Flaherty has a lot to give in terms of talent, but he'll have to stay healthy. Trade for Salvador Perez - I hope he's still a good game manager. He would help Gio and Jack improve their stocks, if so. Sign Will Smith as a relief pitcher (I'd go all scrapheap types though since a bullpen is a crapshoot and this team isn't ready to compete) Brandon Crawford as a SS Pickup the TA option and move him to 2B Sign two of k*** Hernandez, Joc Pederson, Jason Heyward off the bench as a utility man/platoon guys. This is not something I necessarily want, but I think that's the best you can do with the constraints the Sox put on themselves.

I think Poles and everyone should always be under constant evaluation, that being: Do they have a plan? Are they executing on that plan successfully? Despite some misses (which will happen for everybody), are we any closer to completing the plan? If the answer is yes, to me, you cannot fire the coach or player. Poles does have some misses, however. A 2nd for Claypool was a headscratcher in terms of value they gave up. Claypool already had problems in Pittsburgh with Tomlin. Giving up a 32nd pick is really awful considering he couldn't finish with you. I get they needed to up their offer to keep him away from GB and they wanted to help Fields. I'm not a huge fan of Tremaine Edmunds. To me, he's a replacement level player. I do like Yannick, but he's a mercenary for hire. Front 7 are all questionable decisions. I won't knock him on Flus since he was already picked when he walked in the door, nor will I knock him for seeing what he had in Justin this year. He gave himself outs and he's managing the cap and assets ridiculously well IMO, even with the Claypool stuff. -

I wouldn't say that's all he wanted. With that stated, it's hard to evaluate the secondary with such a horrid front 7. When they had a good front 7, that secondary looked legit. I do think Poles/Flus missed on Tremaine Edmunds. He's a nice player, but not a difference maker and they overpaid for him. Yannick is a mercenary for hire, but he needs help. They still have more holes to fill than not on defense. There's no way you could take Carter. They don't have the team for him. Fields is a leader, and he's completely lost. They asked Flus and Williams who were leaders of the defense and they answered Tremaine Edmunds, a FA pickup. He hasn't been in that locker room long enough. I understand the talent, but Carter had motor questions and definite questions about his personality. Pickens, maybe. But gain, the Bears have a good Oline who are looking bad due to their QB holding onto the ball far too long. OLine is not a problem, like at all, in my estimation. Bears rank 8th in terms of time given to the QB in the league. That means they are in the upper 25% of the league. The QB sucking makes the unit look worse, and they're not even at 100% yet. Agreed. You must take both. -

Where does he say that the rebuild is complete or anything remotely close to that? I don't see it. He's speaking generic "We're looking to be better talk" which every GM has to do. No GM ever comes out and says "Yeah guys, this is Year 2 of us sucking, but by Year 4, we'll be good, so catch us then." Even last year, the Bears, despite doing so, would not admit to tanking. -

Um, almost no FO evaluates their drafted QB until after year 3. They essentially had one year with him and saw things they liked, but also things they didn't like. They gave themselves another full year to evaluate him and an easy out if he doesn't pan out. They've done as good as a job of anyone ensuring they didn't mess up the QB room long term. Sounds like you expected the rebuild to only last one year. -

The media speaks for the fans 9/10 times. If CJ Stroud is not considered a better prospect than the guy you have in house who should be further along in his development, why would you trade the guy in house and waste a pick on a QB when you have other pressing needs? You wouldn't unless you have a time machine and realize what has played out. And again, Stroud looks decent in his three games. 3 games doesn't make a career. Stop using hindsight. -

That's using quite a bit of hindsight. CJ Stroud was no better than Fields as a prospect. CJ Stroud also came into a worst QB class. Next year's QB crop is considered much stronger by many with two QBs who many believe would go #1 any other draft. Also, if you traded Fields and he was good, you would've been killed by the media. Lastly, it's been 3 games. You saw Fields have 8 pretty darn good games last year. Anyone could put together a string of decent games. It's a matter of, can you win with them and is their success sustainable? -

Poles created the cap space. Poles got the assets. He's had to clean up the mess that Pace and Nagy made. He gave himself a way out of the JF experience. Did anyone think the Bears were a one year rebuild job when he took over in July of 22? Anyone? I certainly did not. Football teams take at least 3 years to turn around. You could fire Poles, but then, who are you going to hire? What experienced guy that so many clamor for, is going to want to come in knowing they have a year leash before the fanbase is restless and influences the FO to fire them? Poles has generated assets. I think this offseason, he needs to capitalize on some and Year 3 is where you should see real improvement. And if you don't by the end of year 3, then yes, he deserves the hot seat. -

Agree on that. I think Flus is trying to be honest and raw with the media, but that's not what you do with the media. You almost have to agree with the media when things are blatant. "We sucked, we're awful. etc." I wasn't a fan of Flus when he was hired, and he might still be a good coach, but nothing he's done can backup the claim of "things will break for us". -

Ignoring the offense, yes the defense is bad. Their defense actually started hot last year but Poles traded away everything including the floorboards Poles defensively needs to add talent there -

They’ve given him designed runs this game. He’s has freedom to run all years. What they’ve given him is open receivers and he rather run into traffic. They’ve given him more RPOs and designed runs and the offense looks as bad as it ever has. and it’s not like KC has a world beating defense. Teams know JF can’t read the field. Coordinators job is to scheme guys open and get the QB enough time to hit them. Getsy has done that. -

And what I’m saying is that you’re going to be severely disappointed in knowing that the OLine is improved, but the QB is making them look awful. DLine def needs work next. -

O Line is actually protecting at least at league rate if not upper half. Guys are schemed open offensively. They clearly are running more designed runs and it’s netting them nothing to try to get their flawed QB to look decent. Team also has set themselves up with some nice assets so when they get a QB who is not so heavily flawed, they will make a huge turnaround. Similar to Miami a few years ago. dint be impatient knowing that the rebuild was never less than a 3 year job and we are at 1 year and 3 months of Poles and Eberflus on the job. Give people time foe their plan to play out. -

You’re going to be pretty disappointed until they change their QB. There are stats and analysis that support this. Gonna post something another poster on a different website posted because it defines how much of a problem Justin is to the offense. “Chicago armed Fields with D.J. Moore this offseason. Moore adds to a wide receiver room that includes Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool as its top three. The Bears have utilized an 11-personnel grouping on 78.5% of their plays this season, which ranks fourth in the entire league. But Fields either can't or won't even see them. The Bears' quarterbacks coach, Andrew Janocko, told me before the season that Fields needed to improve on his anticipation and rhythm. That's still the case. We haven't seen Fields throw to a spot. He needs to physically see his receivers get to their designated mark before he throws the ball. That doesn't work in the NFL. You have to trust your receivers to be on time and at their mark ahead of time and get the ball out faster. You also need better footwork — and urgency with your dropback. He cannot seem to get through his progressions, as a result. So much so, that the Bears offense seems to have multiple plays installed that are only half-field reads — meaning Fields only has to go through a progression on half the field. It's meant to help him make a quicker decision and speed up his game. But even that's not working when Fields has no faith in the offensive line. Yes, they need to give him more time but in reality, Fields doesn't even crack the top 10 in pressure percentage. He's pressured on 24.1% of dropbacks. That ranks 14th in the league. On top of that, Fields has the most time in the pocket from catching the snap to throwing the ball or getting pressured of any quarterback in the league at 2.8 seconds.“ -

I guess my takeaway is that this is fixable, only if JF decides to fix it. Guys are open, he has enough time, but he's literally running into people after ignoring open receivers. No change is going to fix that other than Justin unleashing the ball. -

And that's been my point. No point in changing the offense considering he can't see guys who are wide open. And change up the offense to help him further develop? How does that help develop him when you're going back to the only thing he knows how to do well. Bears aren't going to win with JF as their starting QB. Coaching has recognized that. Fans should too instead of trying to force the coaching into winning 7 meangingless games this year and missing out on a top QB prospect. -

It's not just Nagy. It's Getsy, it's Martz as well who turned Joey Harrington into a productive player. Everyone rather find the flaw in the coaching and OC instead of the player when it's evident, the one thing they all have in common is the player.
