  1. Apologies, but I realized I didn't write that clearly. So my bad. Phillips actually had nothing to do with the hiring of Poles other than contract negotiations. Bears president and CEO Ted Phillips to retire after the 2022 season, ending a 23-year run - The Athletic " But there was more to it. “The reality is the team wasn’t a consistent winner,” Phillips said. “So I talked to George and told him that we need to make some changes in terms of football reporting, and the decision was made to make a change.” During Phillips’ reign, the Bears have a .480 winning percentage and failed to make the playoffs in 73 percent of their seasons. Phillips called the lack of winning “my biggest disappointment.” Fans and media sometimes blamed Phillips for the Bears’ struggles, but he never made decisions about players and was not a meddler. He hired the people to make decisions about players and then discussed their choices with them."
  2. At what point do you put in a defensive sub for Eloy as well. Yes, he's never safe and god knows when Robert will be back.
  3. You have a better shot of Kenny owning the team than you do of a legit invested owner doing so.
  4. Actually not the case. If you have access to the Athletic article, it's pretty good. With regards to your comment, Phillips actually ceded control of football operations to McCaskey and suggested to McCaskey even. From the sounds of it too, he would hire football guys and stay out of their way. Theoretically, that's what most fans want. So maybe the crime now is that he didn't care enough to fire someone quick enough? Not sure what the complaint would be other than just general frustration with the team and blaming Phillips as the fall guy.
  5. As opposed to what the Sox will get - hint: nothing
  6. No way he did worse. He did slightly better. Bad that he let everyone say goodbye. But he can still get compensation for those guys. Sox aren't getting anyone for Cueto, Abreu, Hendriks next season.
  7. Some will. Most won't. Sox are in perfect position for... This. As Jack has stated, based upon the moves made historically with this team, it appears this is true. Sox have proven they are a 2nd place team and they'll win games to get you believing in them again, then lose games they should win with their eyes closed (like last night with TLR's eyes closed in the 1st inning).
  8. "Because the best thing you can do is be in 2nd place to give the fans hope while also ensuring you're not spending top money. Keeps the fans in the ballpark and spending on parking and concessions."
  9. Correct. He would've tried though. He thought big. He would've gone after Pujols, Cruz, Joc, Syndergaard, Whit, etc. But he would've picked a lane.
  10. Agree on the WS part. Even if they dealt for Soto, it would've cost too much on the major league roster as well. With that stated, it's not about "they weren't going to do this". The list is shorter of things they were willing to do. It's about what they should've done. IMO, it's continued evidence that Hahn has a lack of a part 2 to his plan. Yes, he loaded on prospects. Then, he didn't know what to do afterwards. Missing out on Machado and Harper. Using cash assets on the Machado fan club, Joe Kelly, Yasmany Grandal, Lance Lynn. Never finding a replacement or realistic role for Leury Garcia. Playing more than 1 guy out of position, nightly. Lack of left handed pop. Lack of ability to address holes in the offseason. Everyone here knew the holes going into the offseason. Here's how much effort he made: 0. He's acquired a group of oft-injured, consistently under-performing players. He's wasted the twilight of Jose Abreu. They should've traded Cueto, Abreu, Moncada, Grandal, Hendriks, Lynn.
  11. Not worse. Slightly better. They still can offer the QO at the very least and get a draft pick out of it.
  12. All we'll need is the Hahn breakdown and to shave his head like Paxson. Once he got two tough questions in a row, he'd shut down and go off. I also don't know why people are blaming KW. He's the antithesis of Hahn. He would've made a ton of moves to help the team. Sox needed some invigoration at the very least to have a chance. A guy like Joc Pederson definitely would've been that.
  13. No. Shutting down guys who you flat out are telling not to run hard to not get further injured, and at least playing young guys in their proper positions. Or getting some defenders on the team. Or bullpen help and not bullpen hurt (like Kelly). How about a left handed at bat? If we're talking about realistic, it's either sell off or stand pat. I'll take sell off.
  14. Disagree with anyone says 'Stand pat and wait until the offseason". You don't need to. Grandal is not going to get better (didn't like that deal and was outspoken when it happened). Lynn is going to be 35 IIRC. Usually, old pitchers don't get better while getting older. You're wasting Abreu's career away. Could've dealt him to the Padres. Can't wait for the "When we get Robert back, we're getting an all star. And Eloy is still coming back to form. And Grandal is about to get hot. And once Giolito gets right, just watch". Hahn misallocated funds from the beginning, as well as assets. Don't want to deal Colson? I get it, but then deal Yoan Moncada.
  15. Honestly don't know why the Sox won't go in at least on some Padre action while they're okay dealing some good prospects. Trade Abreu for a couple of prospects like Acosta. Damn this team is stupid. I imagine Rick Hahn in the war room looking like Michael Scott.
  16. Rick Hahn reminds me of GarPax. "Hey, we gave it an honest try", but in the end, overvaluing his own players, signing second rate stars or acquiring over the hill folks (I didn't like the Lynn deal the day it happened tbh) and you hear more about what they tried, and not about what they actually did. Jerry has a type. And it's sad to see.
  17. I think Kelenic can still be great. I think the Mariners think so too, but I would definitely buy low on him if Seattle doesn't think highly of him.
  18. Soto to the Dodgers for Lux and 4 prospects.
  19. As a fan, I could care less about playoff revenue because it's not going to get the team a better manager, FO, staff, or players. We're going to fall short. Because the White Sox like many sports teams around here half-ass everything. "Let's get some young cheap players and instead of signing or trading for players to take us over the top, we'll get over the top by using hopes and dreams" Everyone poops on Ricketts, but he actually spent when it was time to. He went out and got Lester and Hayward. Meanwhile, the White Sox sign Machado's high school team to try to shave a significant amount of guaranteed money off of his deal.
  20. Forget what I said in the other thread. Don't make a damn move at all. Not with this administration. Jesus Christ...
  21. From an asset perspective, this explains a bit of the gap, but the Sox have done pretty great internationally as well. I keep hearing how weak our system is, but we do have Cespedes, Colas, Colson in the farm and a lot of guys who barely came up. From a monetary perspective, makes no sense how the Padres beat the Sox out financially for Machado other than Jerry being cheap. The Padres essentially did what the White Sox were supposed to do. Spend big while your best guys were cheap. For Waddle and Silvy (who are not even Sox fans) as well as Jesse Rogers to flat out call them out for just being purely cheap, that's pretty awful. You have a 23 year old superstar out there and you're not even going to attempt to make a trade. It's disgusting. Even if you don't plan on saving this season, he's a guy who can help you for the next 10 years at least as well as move some merch. It's saddening to see, because if you're not going to do it for Soto, you're literally not going to do it for anyone. As far as what they should do (aside from actually going after a star), blow it up. I think Grandal could get you a mid level prospect back and you clear some cash. Teams are looking at C including the Padres. Graveman should be gone. Liam, IMO, should be gone. Moncada, I think I would get rid of as well. Giolito could probably still fetch you something (though not as great as last year before stickum was removed). And Abreu, just to let him compete for a ring. Poor guy.
  22. He stated it was in the best interest of his family and business. So it sounds like he had to pick 2 of 3, and this one was easiest to give up.
  23. Hosmer and Myers should be FA soon, shouldn't they? Waddle and Silvy brought up a good point, how the hell are the Padres spending more to get top guys than the White Sox?
  24. At this point, I'm rooting for someone who isn't looking for another Crochet or Sale arm. Noah Shultz? Seen him pitch. He's a guy that's 3 years away from being 4 years away.
