  • Would buy a 20 game pack of tickets if Getz just gave all of his info to any other source including Jim Bowden

  • Watson I assume is to take over pro scouting. This is real outside talent. Kudos to Getz.

seems like a good hire. /shrug

Your next White Sox GM

The move seems to be a good one and people are commending it online. By all accounts, this is someone who the Sox probably should’ve hired to be GM. A quick glance at his resume tells me that he is more accomplished than Getz is right now.

Looks good.

Post-playing career

During his pitching career, Bannister became known in baseball for his interest in scouting and player analysis and evaluation. He became interested in statistical analysis and Sabermetrics such as FIP and UZR as means of determining a player's true value.[6] On January 13, 2015, Bannister joined the Boston Red Sox as a member of its professional scouting department.[6] On September 9, 2015, he was promoted by Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski to a new position, director of pitching analysis and development.[7] On July 6, 2016, Bannister was promoted to assistant pitching coach.[8] On November 3, 2016, he was promoted to vice president of pitching development, in addition to his role as assistant pitching coach.[9]After the 2019 season, he was taken off the coaching staff while remaining as vice president of pitching development,[10] until leaving the Red Sox to take a position with the San Francisco Giants in December 2019.[11] His title with the Giants is director of pitching, and he is listed as a member of the team's uniformed coaching staff.[12]

Oh f*** yes if we got a San Francisco guy to run our org pitching.

Interesting that Barfield didn't first wait to see if Hazen was able to secure the Red Sox job...

And whether that's a sign that Katz might likely to be on the way back to the West Coast and/or wherever Flaherty or Giolito end up.

Watson I assume is to take over pro scouting.

This is real outside talent. Kudos to Getz.

We can just pretend that Watson was the one responsible for the Cole Ragans move with the Rangers for Chapman...

Royals’ evaluation took note of one big positive Royals pitching coach Brian Sweeney heard one central theme from opposing teams when discussing Ragans’ rise in the organization. The theme was simply: Ragans is a force to be reckoned with.

Sweeney said the Royals did their homework on Ragans. They evaluated his entire makeup prior to acquiring him from the Rangers. The process took a couple of days, as the Royals studied different domains. The Royals explored his medicals, strength and conditioning, nutrition and mental health. The organization also utilized sports-science data and explored his pitching delivery. The process gave the organization a complete evaluation of Ragans as an athlete and person. Next, the Royals dived into his pitching arsenal and plan of attack. Previously, Ragans has thrown a four-seam fastball, changeup, cutter, slider and curveball. Perhaps most importantly, the Royals noticed an increase in Ragans’ fastball velocity. His fastball jumped from 92.1 mph in 2022 to 96.2 mph this season. Ragans ranks in the 89th percentile in fastball spin, per Baseball Savant. As a result, Royals general manager J.J. Picollo and his staff came to a decision. The consensus was Ragans was the guy to pursue.

Katz also has a background with the giants though.

I don't hate any of this. Is this what hope feels like?

They worked together in San Fran, I’d be shocked if Katz is gone

Thank god we are hiring outside. I am surprised some agreed to work under someone who isn't even qualified for a GM job

This is pretty thorough getting outside help from three serious deficiencies.

If he replaces Paddy with the former Nats intl scouting director DiPuglia and I’d be all ears.

And no, I don’t think paddy was a bad scout but just think he was too narrow in his operation and checked out.

2/3 are from super successful organizations in KC and ARZ! Woo hoo!

Bannister / Barfield had playing days that would have overlapped with Getz career. I’d imagine there’s some personal recruiting. And then the Royals connection with Watson.
