Sleeper Teams and Overrated teams for the Big Dance?
ChWRoCk2 replied to SockMe's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (SockMe @ Mar 6, 2010 -> 11:56 PM) Here are some of mine. Sleepers Illinois: If they get hot at the right time they could make a run but thats a BIG IF! Ohio State: Ranked pretty high but dont get much love, IMO they have the best starting 5. Pitt: Quiety putting together a very nice season, but im not sure how they will do away from home................... Baylor: That team is EXTRA athletic, 3rd best team in the B12, Think they have a shot at the Elite 8. Overrated: Purdue: Still getting a lot of love even though Hummel is done, I smell early exit. Duke: Amazing Home team but not sure how they will do against a good team on the road. Villanova: They have good wins and bad losses, have really been slipping lately and always seem to blow a big lead during games. UConn: They are 17-13 overall and 7-11 in conference, and have some horrible losses. No way this team should make it. Well lets wait till the bracket comes out first. I don't know if Illinois is necessarily in yet. Beat Wisconsin today then probably. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 6, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) Just hit up Union Station. Forgot the name of the place but there's a decent sports bar in there. Snuggery

QUOTE (T R U @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) I wouldn't even say that they showed too much in the previews for Shutter Island, you could just literally see the preview and conclude for yourself the probable ending.. it was just predictable But I agree with you that they do show way too much in the previews, like Quarantine where the ending for the movie was EXACTLY the same as the cut for the trailer.. Quarantine had to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen, ended when it was starting to get good.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) I seriously doubt you'll see GB get in on any big FA ever because of their horrible ownership situation. Just my .02 Oh I know, not expecting anything. Used to them doing nothing in the offseason, basically anticipating the draft. Maybe another Chillar like move that was under the radar but that is all.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) have you heard any scuttle on what they may have in mind for this off-season? Also, what's the rumbling on what happened during the playoff game to the D, kind of an anomaly or cause of concern? Personally I think they have a very good D and that was just kind of a fluke game. I have not heard or seen anything that indicates Green Bay will be making any major moves this off season, not particularly surprised. I'm hoping they sign an OL at the least, I don't know how much I can trust a rookie coming out of the draft moving right into the starting spot. I have read Clifton and Tauschner are top priorities, I would like both back for a reasonable price but I don't really mind if both leave since they struggled to stay healthy last season and Clifton wants I hear 3 years 20 million, ripoff imo. Have like 15 million in cap room to spend but the Packers don't have a history of bringing in many free agents. Ted Thompson seems to like relying on the draft to improve the team, done fairly well I suppose since he took over as GM (Rodgers, Collins, Hawk, Poppinga, Jolly, Jennings, Matthews and Finley), this is since 2005, I might be missing some relevant names. Still a good defense, especially given this was the first year in a 3-4 and everyone says it takes an adjustment period to get used to. Just couldn't stop the Cardinals spread offense, no pressure was really applied on Warner and our secondary was way too thin after Bigby's injury and Warner took advantage. Outside of Tramon, Woodson and Collins we did not have anyone in the secondary to cover all of their receivers and Chillar is the only above avg pass coverage LB we have imo. Not a fluke, I'm not surprsied after looking back that the Cardinals scored so easily given how thin Green Bay was on defense at the end of the season.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) Ok ok, lay off the Packer fan (for now) We weren't talking about the Packers, Peppers and Kampman. I was sort of but not directly to anybody, more so expressing my displeasure with Green Bay's lack of moves in every off season.

QUOTE (JoeBatterz @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) Ummm, Reggie White? Really? He signed in '93 I believe, but that just further shows the impact Green Bay has made through free agency, hardly anything. So besides Woodson it has been like 10 or so years since we signed someone who has made I guess a notable impact you could call it. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) Blah blah. You said he was better, cheaper and younger. So far 2 out of 3 of those are incorrect. What do you expect on a Bears-heavy site, especially when you are trying to make it look like the signing of the top FA on the market is a terrible move. Maybe next time post your own thoughts instead of re-purposing the garbage from that "other site" I shouldn't have to keep repeating myself by saying I didn't look up the age or stats, just relayed from another site, that is allowed isn't it? Others do it too. I didn't break some rule I didn't know about on this site did I, get over it. I never said it was a bad signing, Peppers fills a need for your team, I personally didn't want GB to pay what Kampman and Peppers were asking. Never said Kampman was better, said I'd rather have him since he is cheaper and will probably give the same production next season if healthy, you can't argue this til next season is over. No duh Peppers is better, never said he wasn't, read. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) If your gonna make a statement, at least have the facts to back up your bite (not to mention getting a good damn age difference wrong is not helping your input or knowledge.) Drink some milk and eat some cookies or something. Your taking what Rock said too seriously. And...you basically just reiterated what rock said, was that really necessary? True, but that is still a long ass time ago since Woodson was signed, just proves GB hasn't really done anything noteworthy in the offseason and why I expect nothing to happen like usual.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) LOL, sour grapes much? Kampman 2 seasons with 10+ sacks Peppers 6 seasons with 10+ sacks They both have played the same amount of time in their careers. Kampman 54 total sacks Peppers 81. Not just as good, and not younger either. Wtf are you talking about sour grapes? I don't give a f*** that the Bears got Peppers and the Packers are losing Kampman. Could care less, neither player fits in our system and are not worth the money imo. Packers never make noteworthy free agent signings anyways so I'm not expecting anything. I'm just relaying information from what I see on other sites, I don't have the time nor care to look up ages and stats, didn't know I needed to be specifically accurate, one wrong little sentence and everyone jumps on you all at once, ridiculous. No f***ing kidding Peppers is better, just saying I would rather have Kampman for less because he will probably give you just as good production this coming year.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) I guess I better be careful when I just turn 30 when I tell people I'm already "over 30" We'll see how Kampman bounces back from destroying his knee last season (not to mention go back to a 4-3). And this is comming from someone who likes Kamp. Um...I'm a Packers fan, whoever said I didn't like Kamp? Reports are his knee is progressing fine and ahead of schedule, looks like Philly is his possible destination now.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) Thank god, I like Dez to an extent, but get his old declining ass out of here. Peppers is younger than Kampman. (albeit only a few months) Peppers just turned 30 two months ago. Taylor is 30 right now (will be 31 in late November/December I believe) Swore I read he was younger but guess not, who cares, still over 30 and Kampman is just as good for less. Enjoy the price you overpay to get Peppers.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) If we lose him, we get a high draft pick for him. And I'm fine with that. Your better off, I was telling other Bears fans that you guys always seem to do well in drafting defensive linemen that it really isn't a worry.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) When did the Bears lose Anderson? Well...he is a restricted free agent, no guarantee. I don't keep up with the bears give me a break
-
Aaron Kampman I am hearing is going to be a Seattle Seahawk and Chad Clifton received a 7 million offer from the Redskins. Green Bay better not offer 7 million for Clifton, I will lose it, please let him go, not worth it. Kampman never fit in the system so I don't mind losing him either, I will take the comp picks in 2011. Ted Thompson better break out the checkbook for a change this season and stop relying so heavily on the draft. I doubt it happens though but I will get my hopes up anyways. Lions paid way too much for Burleson but I do like the Corey Williams trade for them. Wonder how that affects their pick. I see they might be getting Van Den Bosch, never was a fan of his. I see nothing indicating the Peppers and Taylor deals are done, frankly, you guys can have both. Both are over 30 and imo your better off with Kampman who is younger and will take less money to get. Your still thin at DE anyways after losing Adams, Ogunleye and Anderson.

Even though this Office episode has only been a half hour so far, I can safely say this episode is terrible and I won't be watching anymore. I can't stand Michael Scott anymore, which is a shame because he was one of my favorite characters when the show started. Hopefully it ends well.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) With watching the first four seasons of HIMYM on DVD, The Office is almost dead to me. Some of the episodes are just way over the top and ridiculous. I used to find Michael funny but now I find him annoying and unrealistic with some of the things he says or does. Nothing beats HIMYM at the moment for me.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) I agree, thats why I thought if they could have found a way to somehow twist it back the other way in the very end it would have been great. I haven't even see it yet and I'm pretty sure I know how it is going to end, I hate movies that show too much in the previews. Greenzone for example, Matt Damon is searching for someone and the stupid previews shows who it is, do they not understand we like a little suspense?

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) I was coming in to post this exact thing. I haven't heard from anyone other than everyone who's signed up for the league. I'm up for giving another week for guys to come back before we give the teams away. Did you PM those teams through Soxtalk, because not many people check their emails connected with fantasy sports, I know I don't. If were going to replace 6 teams we mind as well start from scratch imo.
-
So where do we stand with the other 6 teams left to join?

QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) Yep, Dawson is the key "get" to make his recruiting class good to possibly stellar if the likes of McGary follow. Have not seen McGary in person yet). The two Johnson's they already have coming in are solid guards. I havent't seen the kid from Whitney Young in person (Anthony Johnson), but I have caught Terone Johnson from Indianapolis when "we" (East Chicago) beat them. They are solid guys if they can get a stud like Dawson they are perfect guards to florish in West Lafayette. All these guards are great but they need to recruit more front court players. They got beat this season because they were beat down low, Johnson can't do everything himself. -
I don't see anything wrong with the current divisions, it seems the majority of the divisions are already grouped geographically. Rangers and Astros are the only two teams that are in a location that is not very convenient to fit in any division.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) For those of you who've signed up, does the draft time work for you? Yup

QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 08:22 AM) Losing Hummel while off to a double digit lead, and Moore having a poor offensive shooting game and somehow Purdue wins on the road. Grant has finally played well for the Boilers the past two weeks, but without Hummel, which it didn't look good for any return this year, the Boilers are just a average team at best. Horrible break for Purdue if Hummel is gone for the rest of the year! I hope Hummel isn't out long, this year was looking promising. -
Looking to trade Nick Markakis and Kendry Morales if there is interest. Morales will prolly be kept instead of Markakis at the moment but I'd like to trade both, not looking for anything in particular.
