Sox vs. Rox, March 10th 2007, 2:05 CST (SS)

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 06:18 PM) bulls***. You don't think Ozzie is looking at Erstad's and Anderson's numbers and coming to a conclusion? It's pretty easy to see who's hitting better in Arizona when looking at the numbers. How about Boone last year? Does he make the team without the numbers he put up? Numbers matter, and don't try and color it any other way. They can be skewed, but that doesn't mean they don't matter. Yah. Look at Boone. Was awesome in ST, came up and got absolutely ROCKED. Was terrible at first. NUmbers in Spring Training don't matter. They might use them to help in their evaluation, but they have nothing to do with how a player will perform when the season starts. ESPECIALLY in Arizona. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) Masset seems like one of those guys who looks great when he's just throwing to the catcher on the side. However, as his numbers in the minors show, he struggles to actually get hitters out. I hope KW didn't make a mistake by putting so much stake into winter league numbers. He could be crap. Worst pitcher ever. Total bust. But no one here can use his spring training numbers to determine that, or to determine if he is major league ready. That goes for pretty much any player, with good or bad numbers. Spring Training numbers don't mean jack s*** -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 06:05 PM) Of course. What guidelines are the coaching staff using to determine the 5th starter, again? I'm sure you'll just wait until Williams comments on Masset, then agree with him; regardless of the results. Considering they actually get to watch him pitch, I'll go with what the coaches say. How many times have you seen him pitch this spring to determine that he isn't ready for the majors? They are using what they see. If the guys throw strikes. I would imagine they know how to evaluate pitchers, especiallly in spring training. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 05:55 PM) There are three games televised next week. One more on MLBTV next Sunday. No way he avoids pitching all of these days. Judging from his stats, he hardly appears ready for the majors. Although I'm not sure how hard he's throwing or what pitches he's using. Judging what stats? It's spring training. STATS DON"T MATTER -
We started 3-13 last spring. ST does not matter other than trying to stay healthy.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) Did quick really post in this thread? Amazing. This sounds like KW is shopping Tracey around. Maybe he was talking to the phils about something, but i cant see us getting Rowand back at all. KW went and asked Tracey if he would like to be traded because he wasn't going to be given much of a shot now around here. Did the same with Baj and Rogo as well

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Really? I guess we'll see in a month, huh. He says something different every day, but Terrero has never been in the convo.
-
QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) i think erstad will be starting somewhere. he's show so far that he can hit, run, and "grind" the way ozzie loves Very possibly. Could be in left. Could be in center. But ain't no way Terrero is on the roster. Not a chance.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) If Brian isnt the starting CF they want to get him ABs, and that is called the minors. So who praytell plays CF on the frequent days off that Ozzie gives his players, and if you say Mack just dont. We have no CF when Erstad needs a rest, gets injuried, pulls something. Well, everything indicates BA will be in the majors. That's what Ozzie has said from Day 1 of camp. Erstad might eat into some of his PT, but BA will still be up there.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) Why does Ozzie feel the need to put crappy players on the 25 man roster. We had to deal with OMIT for the longest time. For a guy preaching defense, he kept shoving out the worst possible defensive OF at times with Prancer frollicking around in LF, watching the ball bounce off the wall, picking the ball up, dropping it, kicking it, then throwing it like he was born a righty. His partner in crime was a 3rd baseman/corner OF playing CF. Does Ozzie just ask the magic 8 Ball for his lineup/player advise. I know that this guy is better, but Poo on a Stick over there is looking good to me. The biggest issue is that on game 2, he will trot out Terrero in CF because he needs to rest his starters for the offseason. Ozzie subs too much to put crap out there as a backup. Terrero = OMIT I don't think Terrero has any shot of making the 25. Not even a chance. I've read nothing to suggest that he does, and nobody else seems to have anything suggesting that either.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) LINK I almost clicked. haha. Then decided I should check.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) I've said this many a time and I don't see how it can really be defended. KW put all his eggs in the Anderson basket, trading away one of the top young outfielders in all of baseball (30-30 potential) as well as another starting CF all to clear way for a player who can't even beat out Luis Terrero for a roster spot. What a complete disaster. When did Terrerro get a roster spot? Is there a story on him or something. Do you still have the link?
-
Wait, why is Terrerro making the club? Is there a story on that somewhere?
-
Who is Vasquez? Why does he suck? haha
-
So is Hall going to play center so they can get his bat into the lineup? He can kill the ball.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) Iguchi draws the walk. Uribe to the plate. I had it on '05 mainly for Braves games that aren't on TBS and I really enjoyed it then but took a pass last season. I can't wait to download mosaic when it's available on opening day. Too cool. I beta'd the mosaic last year, very cool program. It can be hard to see some things at times, but it appears they have worked out some of the kinks that I thought were problems this year. Of course you need to have a badass connection to run it well. Add in the fact that premium is 700k for a regular game and it (MLB.tv Premium) is awesome. I paid for the service as far back as 03 (when we were pretty much beta'ing while paying for it), and the improvments theyve made over 3 years is incredible. And it's better than extra innings in that it now has pretty much everygame, even the ones that aren't televised (MLB will send a crew and run it off the jumbotron). On stuff like extra innings, you don't get the WCIU broadcasts. I love MLB.tv. Don't know what I'd do without it.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) There are some real fun young teams in the NL right now. My second team has always been the Braves who are always fun to follow plus you have the Brewers, Rockies and Diamondbacks all teams with real good young players. It's going to be a real good season to have MLB.tv. 2 quick outs in this inning. Iguchi is hitting near the end of the order after AJ. It's awesome. You're going to love it.

It looked like a fastball to Lee. Was Charlie 3-0 on that pitch or did I just see it wrong -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) Garland always looks uninterested. And considering this is the first televised game, I don't know how you could generalize about the rest of the games. This is the 2nd televised game, and I was speaking more in general about the Sox in spring, than the Sox in spring this year. They were 3-13 to start the spring last year. They are there to get their work in.
