Dont Like This Move Ozzie
Well, the funny thing is that he had a better OBP and SLG against lefties than righties in 05, so it's hard to get an exact idea of what he would do. I think our players numbers vs lefties are a little bit lower than regular because there are so many great lefties in our division, especially last year. They are tough to hit no matter what hand you swing with. Though in an interesting case, Paulie was better in 06 against lefties than he was in 05. While OPS was a little bit closer, I think avg was diff by about 30 points. But I agree with you. I'd rather have Gooch at the 2 and Erstad down in the lineup

Just what BA wanted to hear...
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) This persistent desire to move Iguchi down in the lineup is the most baffling thing to me about this team's thinking. They were so desperate to do so last year that they fooled themselves into believing (for a while) that Uribe, of all people, would make a good top-of-the-order hitter. I can't think of a single good reason to move him down in the order, but every year... They figure Gooch will be able to utilize his full repertoire more down in the lineup without having to worried about all the responsibilities of a 2-hitter (they always mention the fact that he was a 3-hitter in Japan and wants to try and hit like that over here) so they wanted to move him down. I'm with you though, I think he's great in the 2-hole and should stay there.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 09:44 AM) OBP's the last few years. Erstad .331 .313 .309 .346 .325 .279 Iguchi .342 .352 Just what we need. Fewer runners on base for Thome, Dye, and Konerko. If we limit his ABs to mostly against righties, I think his OBPs will be right around Iguchi level. Ozzie said he will only put him there against righties but you never know.

Today is the Day! (3-18 Thread)
Haha. Poor Gustavo. He never had a chance. His stuff looks really good. Dude just can't throw enough strikes. And his backup defense has sucked hardcore this inning.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) I'm not sure how it will go. I think Blake will play mainly 3B and RF, with Victor platooning with Shoppach at C and Garko at 1B. I think I read today that Blake will be batting 5th

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) Good pitch. Danks found his fastball again. I don't want to make excuses for him, but I don't think sitting through the long top of the 2nd helped. Of course, with our offense he is going to have to get used to that.

Blum loved to play for Ozzie. Oz mustve slipped him a couple thousand before he went on

The South Bracket (San Antonio)
Man. It sucks when your team loses in the NCAAs. Singletary picked a bad time to have one of his worst games of the year.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) I bet the wind gusted also against him when he took off and was a factor Nope. He didn't need any help with a jump like that. It was that bad.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) I couldn't believe Podsednik didn't even enter the picture when Blanco's throw was in air. The initial jump, from what I could tell, wasn't bad -- he just didn't appear to run quickly. Which isn't very encouraging. Hopefully these CS's don't pile up. And what the hell is Williams talking about obtaining "middle of the road" pitchers and concentrating on those of high ceilings? What the hell have the last two first round draft picks been, again? It was a terrible jump.

Roberts signs...is Iguchi comparable?
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 09:24 AM) I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but it'd be a great deal to make money because you tripped. I should try that sometime. He only stumbled because the ball had so much spin/english on it. If he wouldn't have adjusted there would have been no play.
