  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 09:07 AM) Exactly. If Ozzie wasn't concerned about Iguchi's performance thus far, would he be moving him back to his old spot in the lineup? Maybe, maybe not. Ozzie probably wants to try to get him some confidence, but it won't make a big difference. AJ hit in the low .200s last year in ST. The numbers just don't matter. I don't mind Ozzie moving Gooch up for a few games. Gooch is like 5 for his last 17 or 18 or something like that. His swing and approach has definitely gotten better. Ozzie probably wants to try and get him more comfortable. But that has nothign to do with Cintron, who is a backup.
  2. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 07:06 AM) I hope that KW doesn't just stick with Thornton so he doesn't risk losing him to waivers. I know that the cost for relievers is probably way too high right now. But if there's a better option when teams make their cuts, I hope KW picks him up and doesn't just hope that Thornton is already the answer. haha. he can be pretty stubborn at times. And talking about some of the hitters. Look at some of those who were hot coming out of the spring last year and then look at what they did in the first month. Paulie raked in the spring, was hot at the end, and then was pretty terrible in April. Somewhat similar to both Aaron and Juan. You just can't trust spring stats at all. Once April 2 hits it is just so totally different. Being hot in numbers at the end of spring is no indication that you will hit well at the beginning of april.
  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 06:54 AM) I'm not too worried about Iguchi struggling and never even mentioned it. If he does suck, we have Cintron as a fallback plan. It's a good situation to have. Jenks is a different story though. We are depending on him a lot now that our bullpen looks weaker. It's not like Jenks has had a stellar record of good control -- he walked 6.15 batters per 9 innings in the minors. I do think that we need more bullpen help not named Matt Thornton. Eh, I'd like him to throw more strikes sure, but he's doing the same thing he did in both big league camp and minor league camp last year. Walking folks and getting hit hard while his fastball got up to speed. It's not like this should be a real surprise. I think we'd all like more dependable bullpen help, but the only way it's coming is through our minor league camp. And there isn't much there either.
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 06:43 AM) And what would that be? That people would piss themselves over spring numbers and results when they don't mean a thing. Comparing Iguchi's spring to Cintron's is especially hilarious considering how much earlier Cintron prepared and the type of work he got in the WBC and then comes back and rakes. Tons of players from the WBC are doing the same thing. I love it.
  5. Haha. Part of my prediction already coming true. I love it.
  6. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) I don't want Mariotti posting here. LOL. We're all famous.....
  7. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 04:15 PM) Greasy face is a stud. He will get on base anyway possible, other than hitting the ball out of the infield of course. WRONG!!! GO pablo! Mark was solid. Gload looked good. Still a week and a half til opening night
  8. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) The Rockies' pitchers retired 14 Sox hitters in a row after you posted this. LOL. Whoops.
  9. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) concerned about Jenks? Yes, I am. especially without Hermie (or Shingo) around. fastest gun reading I saw was 94. He said it doesn't get up there to his normal until the very end of march/beginning of april. He said that in late February.
  10. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) Well, Gload pwned us there. Buehrle had Freeman picked off and a decent throw to 2B by Gload would have gotten Freeman out. I was just talking about in general
  11. I hope our offense is going to be okay this year. It was so bad in spring training early and it had me worried that it wasn't going to be good this year.
  12. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) Man, Cintron is on fire. Yah. It looks like all the WBC hitters are coming back and smoking these crappy ST pitchers after working so hard to get ready and focused for the WBC> They are locked in.
  13. QUOTE(BFirebird @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) I have only seen a handful of games on tv so far this spring training....but if Hawk keeps referring to the Sox as the "Defending World Champs" every half inning they are coming up to bat, all season long I might lose my sanity. I love Hawk but that will get REALLY annoying. How could you not want to hear that we're the defending world champs? It's music to my ears.
  14. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) Deep Discount DVD for $41.97 with free ship. I got the email today as well. http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=ANE074722 nice. Usually they have been slower than everyone else for me.
  15. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Just got word today that the World Series DVD has been shipped to me -- the one that has all the WS games on it and select playoff games. Shipped from where?
  16. Absolutely. Reliever prices both in FA and trades are off the wall.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) And that would be fine. Quite simply, I thought Borchard would have been a better fit for this team on and off the field (I hate Gload's attitude). However, there's no point in really complaining about the 25th man on the team. I just hope we don't keep Thornton on the MLB roster just because of any ego issues with KW and Cooper. Let him go to the minors and work out the obvious problems he's having right now. Well you might want to get used to the idea, because I'm pretty sure KW is intent on keeping Thornton on the team for at least the first part of the season. I don't necessarily like it either (I would have been fine with with Lopez and Logan) but it looks like that's the way its going to be. To be really honest though, i'm not worried about the 6th and 7th guys out of the bullpen, as in I don't think it will have a huge impact on the team.
  18. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) he was out there for 1 game, but no balls came to him. I'd rather take Boone Logan than either of them. Really doesn't matter to me who we take though.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) I'm pretty sure I watched every game last season, and I don't remember Ozuna playing at all in RF. And as for Gload in the outfield.....I still have nightmares of him playing in RF at Wrigley. I was talking about 9-10 games in left like last year. Mack will play right when Dye needs a break.
  20. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) I have a feeling that Thornton would pass through waivers if need be. I'm not sure. Everyone wants a chance to 'fix' the 96-mph throwing lefty.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) Ozuna can't play RF, and he was an adventure in LF. I guess I was hopeful that Mackowiak would be used primarily as the 3rd base back-up when we acquired him. Not a big deal though. I think Gload can be a consistent threat for off us the bench. While Ozuna's range isn't all that spectacular, he makes the plays he needs to make and does a pretty solid job out there. I definitely wouldn't call him an adventure. Certainly not spectacular, but adequate for the 9-10 games he'll be out there when Mack isn't playing or when Mack is in another spot.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) I still wish Borchard would have made the team. I trust him in the outfield more than I do Gload. Mack will play almost all of the backup time available in the outfield. He is going to play A LOT. Then Ozuna will be in left and right occasionally, and he is actually decent out there. Gload is a much better hitter than Gload. Borch is better in the field, but he isn't exactly stellar out there. Gload is just that late bat off the bench.
  23. Iguchi looks much better. So does Crede. LOL. I mustve made him make that ugly ass swing.
