  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) LOL. Paying Scott Kazmir 11 million a year is not a low risk. Not in this market, not in 2018's market. You do realize Josh Johnson signed 1 year 8 million and Hughes signed 2 year 16 million right? Hughes signed for 3/24. A 2 year deal in this FA market, is low risk. I like both JJ and Kazmir's deals, though I view JJ's performance for next year far more up in the air than Kazmir's, and I think many would agree.
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 10:07 PM) Saying the Tigers got 3 younger players back and only had to give up 1 player to Washington is also a true statement, but it's clearly a statement that is only made to try and make it seem like a good deal for Detroit while ignoring almost every other aspect of the deal, which show how terrible this deal really was for them. lol... JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 2h Nats rotation of Strasburg (healthy elbow now), JZimmermann, Gonzalez & Fister now arguably as much overall potential as any in NL for 2014 Tim Kurkjian ‏@Kurkjian_ESPN 2h Tigers source called Fister "a very good pitcher, a No. 3 starter.'' The Nationals upgraded their rotation without dealing Anthony Rendon. The horror. Baseball analysts analyzing the effects on both teams' rosters, offering no opinion whatsoever on the trade.
  3. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 07:56 PM) Look at this smoke blowers.... JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 1h Krol significant up-grade to Tigers pen from left-side;Lombardozzi solid utilityInf & Ray has potential of 4th starter.Tigers reduce payroll Tim Kurkjian ‏@Kurkjian_ESPN 1h The Tigers cleared money, opened a rotation spot for Drew Smyly and got a LH reliever (Ian Krol). And Steve Lombardozzi is very useful All of that is true.
  4. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) Terrible deal. Especially with the way the A's make pitching. Just not a move I'd make if I was them. If this is a terrible deal, then there is not going to be one good deal in free agency this year. Have you seen the FA SP market? This could be the best SP contract handed out, and it certainly won't be the worst. So what if the A's paid a few extra million to not have to commit to the 3rd year. It's a great move, IMO. It's low risk w/ plenty of upside. Kazmir was finally back healthy. His stuff was back last year.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 1, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) I'd say that bringing up his prospect status after more than half a decade of not being a prospect is quite a bit worse of a joke than comparing him to Axelrod. No it's not. Phil's still just 27, has dealt with injuries, and prospect status actually tells you something about his tools. A comparison to Kenny Powers would have been more accurate than one to Dylan Axelrod.
  6. Why is Ricky Nolasco good? He's been a career disappointment since 2008.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) Yeah, that's not happening. Bulls are sadly a mortal lock for the postseason. If they keep Deng. I got to believe it'll be really tough for Gar to pass on some of the offers...He's a stubborn stubborn man, so who knows. We'll see if he's a complete idiot soon.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) The pick improves every year. If you really want an extra pick this year sure, but if Charlotte continues being terrible the protection moves higher and higher. That's why everyone has targeted 2016, because that pick is unprotected in 2016. If Charlotte is at the top of the draft the next couple years that pick could be a top pick in the 2016 class. The protection decreases every year, it doesn't necessarily get better. Charlotte could be 10th this year, then 6th or whatever next year, then they could be good and really F the Bulls. I think I would settle for the 11th pick this year, given the depth of the upcoming class, and be done with it. I seriously doubt if it gets to 2016, it's top 10 pick, especially given how god awful the East is.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) And also reinforces Alexei Ramirez has legitimate trade value. Actually I kind of view it as the opposite. STL was one of the few teams that could actually call Alexei a substantial upgrade. And they decided that it was more prudent to give a buttload of money to a PED user than trade for Alexei. And now, the market for Alexei looks very very thin. I just don't know where the demand is going to come from, especially with Stephen Drew still a FA. Not many contending teams need a SS. Hopefully the market will change through injuries or more PED suspensions...
  10. Lebron's going to use his termination clause this year and be the savior. Don't worry.
  11. Fans read too much into injuries and injury prevention, imo. We're talking about human bodies that are being monitored daily by the best minds in medicine. I don't buy in the slightest that Derrick's first injury was avoidable.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) This injury probably goes a long way towards proving the guy just has a disposition to the injury, and it was going to happen no matter how much rest he got. For sure. ESPN had some doc come on and said that once you tear one ACL, the chances of re-tearing it or tearing the OTHER ACL go up to 1 in 30. I can't imagine what the chances are if you've torn both. So sad.
  13. Start the Great White Euro-Hope ads now. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1447169...ed-derrick-rose So depressing.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 08:34 PM) Tom Crean just got bailed out by a questionable charge call. Shot clock was off and IU wasn't fouling while trailing. IU lost anyway. Good finish. I don't think you foul Napier RIGHT away in that situation either. There were still 30 seconds left. It's worth 5-10 seconds to try and get him to give up the ball. If it was anyone other than Napier, I am sure they would have fouled right away.
  15. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) I don't think Semien is a true 3B just like Beckham wasn't and they forced him there.. I want Semien to play but not at 3B unless somehow Beckham turns it around. Right now I would rather have Gillaspie then Beckham in the line up. I'd rather go with Beckham who actually, once upon a time, had above average tools, and would garner interest from other teams if he did show a pulse. I don't see how anyone can think Gillaspie will ever be starter worthy.
  16. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) Sorry lol. Being from St. Louis I had to hear everyone say how awesome David Freese was and how everyone loved him and I said from the beginning he was overrated. And now you are a person from St. Louis overrating Conor Gillaspie.
  17. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 07:41 PM) If he were a league average player, they'd be an 85 win team. Miggy will never be league average. Injuries are your only hope.
  18. So MJ gets up to 12 per game in a period where drawing fouls was tougher, and you don't think he could get up to 15 in today's sissy game? That seems illogical to me, especially because we are talking about MJ, king of exploiting rules, not some average player.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 11:48 PM) It would be a work of art to see a player go to the line 20 times a game? Yeah, I don't think so. LeBron career high free throw attempts per game is 9.4. Michael's career high is 12.0 and he had two other years that were higher than LeBron's high. You guys really need to get over this hand-checking crap. I'll admit at first it played a role. But from '08 when thibs introduced the flood the strong side system and the increased emphasis on help d/rotations, defense has never been better. Fact: It is way easier to draw a foul in today's game. And stop comparing Lebron to MJ in this instant. We are talking PPG only. Lebron is not and won't be the scorer MJ was. They have different games. For instance, Durant (today's most elite scorer IMO) has already gotten to the line 17 or more times in 3 games this season. Bottom line, Jordan would have average at least 15 attempts per game with ease.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 11:50 PM) On god-awful efficiency. Please don't reference wizards mj. I'm still trying to pretend it never happened. How was it god-awful efficiency? As a 40 year old, Jordan had the same EFF as Rose did his first 2 seasons. You talk like he chucked shots up all game long. He shot 45%, averaged only 0.7 3PT attempts per game, and 82% from the line. I try to pretend like it didn't happen too, but MJ was still getting the job done at 40 years old.
  21. In his last season when he turned 40 years old, he averaged 20 pts on 45% shooting. I am sorry, but he was by far the craftiest player ever to play. He would absolutely tear these current dumbass rules to shreds. When Lebron is 40, let's see what he does. As a 40 year old man, he scored 40+ points 3 times..................40...years...old.
  22. Dude, I don't think you understand how many times Michael would have gotten to the line in this day and age. It would have been ridiculous. He would easily score at least 1/3 of his points with the clock stopped. Averaging 40 may be a slight stretch since he wouldn't play full games, but 35 without a doubt. He'd have multiple games where he scored 20 just from the line. I wish I could see that. It would be a work of art.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 09:03 PM) And has done nothing against Jo today. His stats this year are very similar to his career stats on the offensive end. He's a 10 to 12 point a game scorer, nothing special at all on the offensive side of things. Hibbert's definitely improved his defensive prowess. Offensively he's far from unstoppable. I'd love for him to have the ball every possession.
  24. Yes, if someone signs Juan to be a bench player, it's very possible, and probably likely, that he won't be worth his contract.
  25. I think Ruiz ends up being the best value of any of the free agent catchers.
