Agreed, but just try to tell that to a Cubs fan who says wins for a starting pitcher don't matter.

I don't see why anyone would want Preston Wilson. He basically IS Jermaine Dye but he is making more money. They both rarely walk, strike out a lot, USUALLY hit around .265 with a .333 OBP, and USUALLY play good defense. Their career numbers are so similar it's scary... Jermaine Dye | Preston Wilson The main differences between the two is that Preston Wilson can play CF and can steal bases. Otherwise, they are nearly clones. Their bats are almost identical. Also, keep in mind that Wilson's monster 2003 season was Coors-aided.

Did anyone see the ESPN story on Buehrle tonight? They did a story on how he pitches so fast. They interviewed Buehrle, Konerko, Pierzynski, Rowand, and Don Cooper. AJ said that Buehrle rarely shakes off a sign (maybe 1 per outing) and he's a joy to catch for. They said that his quickness was the key to him being "in the zone" when he's on the mound. Buehrle said that batters will sometimes bluff moves like pretending to have dirt in their eyes, etc. to make him slow down and get out of his rhythm. Buehrle said that it didn't matter -- he can't be taken out of his rhythm when he's on the mound. Also, during the Orioles vs. Sox game recap, they hyped up Garland as the All-Star Game's possible A.L. starter.

Not quite. The story is that Contreras didn't want to even waive his no-trade clause last year. He didn't want to leave his buddy El Duque. The rumor is that Steinbrenner threatened to throw him in the bullpen for mop-up duties if he didn't waive it.

Sox vs O's 05/12/05 Game thread - Jon G vs Chen

"Stuff it up the ass of these assholes." You are like a poet, man!
-
You are getting more and more creative in every game thread!
-
Yep, Kurkjian made sure to note Dead's bad defense this season.
-
Nope, Neyer is the pitiful one and here's further proof... The guy actually said that he doesn't like the Sox because of their ballpark and their uniforms. Great analysis there, Rob! That's really some nice, unbiased sportswriting there! What a hack. He obviously has some serious man-love for the Twinkies, which is fine, but at least come up with a better analysis on the Sox other than bashing their ballpark and uniforms. :headshake Just because you love stats and Neyer does too, doesn't mean you have to defend the guy as a good sportswriter.
-
I can't believe you are defending a guy who said that the Sox had one of the worst offseasons in baseball when he didn't even know that the Sox had signed Dye. How can you judge a team's offseason WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO THEY ACQUIRED IN THE OFFSEASON?!? Amazing. Ummm, why not?
-
EXACTLY! I'm glad that I'm not the only one to get this point. He is backtracking like crazy. It's pitiful.
-
Okay, whatever. You asked for the quote and I supplied it. GMAFB. I'm not a sportswriter, Neyer is. What's his friggin' excuse? :rolly Oh yeah, his excuse was blaming it on his source for missing the Dye acquisition. Yes, he is such a great sportswriter! :headshake http://proxy.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?id=1980522

It was in one of his ESPN Insider articles. Here's the link. I posted direct quotes from his article in the other Neyer thread. Sorry, it was the 10 worst offseasons in baseball... http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=621580 Once again, I stated why Neyer is a gas-bag. Neyer didn't even know that the White Sox had signed Jermaine Dye when he was reviewing our offseason in one of his ESPN articles. He had the Sox as having one of the 10 worst offseasons in the MLB... "As bad as it gets" Monday, January 31 And then in his next article... "Difficult to quantify outfield arms" Friday, February 4 Give me a break, Neyer is a hack. It's nice that he picked the Sox but he's still bad at what he does. How could you miss a major signing for the team's offseason that you are reviewing?
-
Konerko and Dye are on his "All Underachievers" team. He said that Konerko's power numbers are still good so he isn't completely killing the team like Dead is.
-
Oh yeah, now I remember you were one of the posters defending Neyer.

What is with all the trash talk about Hawk and DJ?

I never heard that Shingo had a no-trade clause either. He is just making $2.5 million on a team option this year. Regardless, since when was there any trade talk regarding Shingo? From message board rumors?
-
Konerko batted 5th when we had Magg$ and Frank both healthy.
-
Neyer said that the Sox were one of the 5 teams with the worst offseason before the season started. I said this guy was a jag-bag in another thread before but some posters here actually defended him! Neyer is a no-talent hack and he is just wrong but he doesn't have the balls to admit it. And after reading steff's post, I see that Neyer is now backtracking on his comments. What a tool. :headshake

Toca was AAA fodder and Yofu was released but Valido is disappointing.

Don't remember. It was toward the middle of the game. Hawk said that Robin put himself in a head-lock. -

Robin is getting better in the booth. He was pretty funny tonight. That email from the 11 year old kid about his brawl with Nolan Ryan was hilarious. -
OMFG, I just replayed Uribe's homer at MLB.com. DJ with the delayed call: "YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!"

You were right, Nuke. They DID eat s***.
