It's not a boat it's a ship.
-
You watched it, you wanna discuss it, discuss it here. Eventually it will merge back into the star wars thread.
-
While I'd love to be a part of it, I don't see a scenario where Ellsbury waives NTC to go to us unless strictly playing time is the most important thing.
-
The Ozuna/Yellich markets may spark up some stuff, but yeah. I thought people were overplaying the "slow" factor but man is this boring.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 09:23 AM) So is he insinuating that she was willing to blow him for a donation? Creepy Can't wait for SHS to say "the president's tweets speak for themselves" and when people draw that obvious conclusion say that its fake news and the president never said that.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 04:34 PM) I'd guess 5/85 for JBJ and 5/100 for Abreu if each were a free agent right now A 27 year old all star CF is getting either more years or way higher AAV.
-
We were unsure brinson was even coming back for Quintana now people want him for Fulmer?
-
Heyman subtlety setting up a JBJ for Schwarber trade. Edit: nightengale not heyman

I disagree with both of you. The idea that it had no value to the player is questionable. Knowing what we know now, they should have not signed and it was a discount. Knowing what we knew then: - Sale was dominant but still very questionable on his durability. He got an immediate raise and guarantee of a certain amount in majors. - Eaton also was injury prone. And after one good year they gave him immediate raise and discounted FA years - Quintana, a pitcher out of nowhere to have a really good two years with no stuff. Same as above. For the players and clubs, they get certainty over the next 6 years or so, with the exchange of some risk. Not every player will want that, but these will still happen.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 08:01 AM) Abreu + Sanchez for that package seems very underwhelming. Groome is young, but has yet to have any professional success since he got drafted in 2016. I question Chavis' hit tool and defensive position big time. I just don't like the matchup for a trade in Boston's system, and tossing them Sanchez for essentially nothing does not make sense to me with him coming off a 3 WAR season. Same. You are just trading Abreu to trade him at that point. Chavis is a guy I wanted for one of our bullpen pieces.

IMO cubs aren’t in a position to care about a two year deal. This is their window. You can’t go hoping on a bunch of bargains to hit.
-
It was a pretty exciting time on the board. For a few hours, we thought we had him. Looking back, Sox package actually ended up pretty competitive knowing outcomes now and factoring in how long it took Miller to turn into his role.
-
Before we worry about Yankees dominating next ten years take a look at their rotation and bullpen, extend it to 2020 and tell me you think it will be dominating. The yanks farm is good but any star pitchers that would come from it may be kinda random baseball luck. They will need to do a lot of supplementing if pitching soon through FA or trades...and take of cubs should show how quickly the farm can empty out. Baseball will be okay.
-
The yanks are taking on more money though. Trade is not and should not be blocked. The marlins gave Stanton a no trade clause, blocking it would be unfair to him.

My definition is one where the league worst twins nearly make playoffs the next year. Where am ALCS team finishes fourth the next year in their division. That’s parity I can get behind. Much more fun than 10 81-81 teams. Unlike 15 years ago those bad teams aren’t just mired in never ending suck but are doing it to build back up again.
-
Would love to give Broxton the time to try to grow into his potential but we aren’t a fit. Unless Rodon ( if we trade rodon obviously want more like Brinson etc)
-
I think it’s more that expansion is probably ready to happen. Parity is gone now? Not the league I’ve seen. AL is really good: Angels Astros Red Sox Yankees Indians Twins Mariners Easy to assume now that all work out perfectly, but look how quickly cubs went from unstoppable force for decade to fighting for division from Brewers. Their staff fell apart like that. Maybe every year will be the same 4 teams, but still likely that injuries, strange regression, and baseball happens. 2018 isn’t over.
-
Someone posted Stanton’s zips for his contract at yankee stadium. Basically has him average 55 hrs a year and still has him a 3 WAR player in 2028
-
One more, if jones comes back healthy having a cheap dynamite RH reliever could be a huuuge trade chip (or asset to us anyway)

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2017 -> 09:23 AM) I for one am extremely excited Ohtani and Stanton got resolved before the meetings. Should be an exciting week. Yep!
-
I also think the interesting thing is the astros and dodgers showing that pitching depth is showing to be as successful as top pitching impact. Do Yankees go for top guy or let their pitching prospects develop and look for a few of their own Charlie Morton / etc type pitchers.
-
I still think our most likely trade with the Yankees this offseason is taking on a headley. But I don’t see it likely. If we acquire a Yankees prospect it will most likely be in rule 5.

Depends on money

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:57 PM) I’d rather have my daughter have her social security number compromised then be subjected to an environment of sexual abuse all the time. The nice thing with wikileaks is you can have both.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) I have no problem with that at all. As I have said before, the laws are the biggest impediment to that. The flip side of that is a situation like in Chicago and Baltimore where the police feel like they are under attack enough they basically quit policing and leave entire neighborhoods to destroy themselves. Not quite sure where the sweet spot in all of that actually is. If they don't want to do their jobs they should be fired and replaced.
