QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) If we become a league average passing team Mitch Trubisky is going to be a star. This receiving core is absolute trash. There might be some college teams with better receivers. We were damn near league average last year with Barkley and Hoyer at QB for much of it.

ALDS: Red Sox vs. Astros
I like how Red Sox need a manager because they fired the best manager in baseball.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) The thread should just end right here. I honestly think the reason they waited this long on Trubs is that they know this team is garbage and Tom Brady himself couldn't be effective with it. This probably won't payoff for me but I disagree and I think offense will end up league average.

NLDS: Cubs vs. Nationals
my desire to call out Dave Kaplan for his anti-Q BS exceeds my desire to see cubs exit for now. A few more stupid tribune tweets about how cubs fans are writing go cubs in chalk on a brick wall and it may swing the other way.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) I'd like to think Bears fans are realistic with him debuting against one of the best Defenses in the league and no WRs. Who am I kidding? We're Bears fans. If it's like Cutler's first performance v green bay that would be a gut punch. But if we just ask him to do a bunch of checkdowns and he scrambles for a first down a few times? I think most will still be excited even if he doesn't have a sexy line.

ALDS: Red Sox vs. Astros
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Was listening to this game on the radio a bit yesterday. How can they assign a Boston game to Berman? He is such an insufferable homeboy with the pro-Red Sox/Fenway drivel he spews. When Boston went up 4-3, he made the very important point that the rally that inning guaranteed the Fenway crowd would now be into the game for a full 9 innings. Great analysis, Chris. More likely at this point that he requested it and they allowed it given his service. He's just an awful play by play guy/everything now. Heard he's nice in person though.

I was having a surprising run in a league I never do well in despite drafting luck, but now I have no idea how to replace OBJ and I think I"m toast.

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) I guess Emma Watson threatened to leave a movie if Harvey told another actress to lose weight. Paid off Rose McGowan to keep quiet about something. There are going to be a lot of studio execs a lot less media facing than Weinstein that are probably lawyering up right now, and I hope they don't succeed.

won in a league because of the garbage points, lost in a league because of watson's garbage points.

The Sexual Assault problem
I hope he can face some legitimate penaltys aside from financial and reputation. I hope I never see Lisa Bloom hired again. I remember reading the David Carr profile of Weinstein in High school and it just rolled off my back. He was responsible (and made sure everyone knew it) for funding so many of my favorite movies as a teenager, I was like, a big Weinstein fan. Was pissed when the miramax split happened. Anyway I read the Carr profile again this weekend (it was around twitter as a weird archive piece on New York mag I can't find right now), and it seems so obvious. That piece focused on his verbal and physical abuse (mostly of men). People whose sole worldview is to dominate those around them are going to carry that in every aspect of life. It's just gross and sad for those who get taken advantage of and fall through the cracks in someones search for power. Also, this is case in point why Gawker going bankrupt was bad because people like Weinstein is who Gawker was built for: http://defamer.gawker.com/tell-us-what-you...-sec-1695071092

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 09:39 AM) The pendulum has swung WAY too far here. While it isn't the most important stat, if you are getting a high number of wins it means you are pitching well enough to give your team a chance to win on a regular basis, while you can get some statistical flukes built into that such as the year Nolan Ryan led the league in ERA, but went 8-16, it is usually a pretty good indicator that a pitcher is doing two things. They are not giving up a lot of runs, and they are pitching relatively late into games. Last I checked, those are two pretty good things to get out of your starting pitcher on a regular basis. I agree. While better stats are predictive, and better stats exist to compare player value, I still think wins and RBi tell a story about who was important to an individual season. What did Cliff Politte being 7-1 out of the bullpen in 05 mean? We were always in the game witha penchant to score late, and that's what I remember, the grinding out of games and rarely making a mistake. The win is definitely arbitrary, but so what. So are round numbers.

2018 MLB Draft
I don't think BPA is that obvious especially at #4. And I think it's likely sox will be tied to Kelenic a little bit until pre draft just because we have clearly seen him so much and overcash has been on the record praising his maturity, approach and bat speed. But we may also end up with a guy at #4 who people thought could go 1-1 or 1-2 and things change. I just want a fairly high ceiling, and though less exciting I think Singer has TOR potential obviously. We just lack good athletes with any sort of approach in our middle of the field positions past Robert.
