Failed deal with Pirates
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) Cubs deal with Jimenez and Cease + filler is far better than anything else that was offered for Quintana. Jimenez has all the looks of a future stud for us. Absolutely, I couldn't believe we got Cease with him. My favorite trade of them all.

What do you take from the 2017 season?
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 04:48 PM) Yes. I feel like I watched about 40 games in August and September this year, like I either had them on in the background at work or I watched them on replay in MLB.tv, or I at least watched the condensed game. Have not watched probably more than that the last three seasons combined so late in the year. Was long over the club and daily check ins at that point. Box score watching at best. Same. Can't say I watched the whole games, but I would check in for the first 5-6 innings well into september. Something I definitely didn't do when we'd fade in august on supposedly contending teams. Part was fresh blood, but the other part was just a generally enjoyable team. It's so funny, but if you were to ask me where sox ranked in offense (runs scored), my gut feeling would have been 15/16th. They just seemed pretty competent most nights. But nope, they were 23rd. It was also that I was also kinda mad that we traded clippard for nothing. Just thought our bullpen would be not close to major league competent and it would be a joke (like the tigers team). And they pulled together to be competent. That's the thing, there wasn't so much talent on this team, but they always seemed to play above it. In 2015? The epitome of playing under their talent. It was refreshing.

Kevin Maitan and others
Also it would have been nice if when Dave Wilder decided to cheat and screw over the org causing almost a decades worth of futility he could have done it in the name of making the sox better not pocketing a bunch of cash for a night club.

we should get #1 farm system now since we didn't cheat for ours.

2018 MLB Draft
I think this is the earliest I've followed the next years draft and what was confusing to me was what has come out so far was just a lot of the players who were at the big showcases and some video, but very little commentary on how they were doing. I think I mistook the amount of video tweeted on a guy as a sign of them being the best, but likely was just a matter of availability. After another average wooden bat summer for Beer, I really wonder with even a big junior season if he does much better than Brent Rooker.

Another interesting one regarding Acuna

Kevin Maitan and others
https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs...s-as-braves-gm/ Wow. Resigns apparently due to impropriety regarding their LatAm program. Considering what happened with BoSox, this must have been significantly worse, will be interesting to see what happens. John Hart is still their President of baseball ops.

What do you take from the 2017 season?
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) Good list, I'd add Jones' injury to the bad. Before the season he was in our top 5 trade chips but now he has little to no value. Yikes good point.

Fantasy Football
I'm tied with another team, with tyreke hill vs. kareem hunt tonight, best fantasy performance wins. The only reason I'm in this position is we have 1 defensive player, and I had that random game where he had a pick6 and got me 20 pts.

What do you take from the 2017 season?
For most of year I felt like this was going about as well as it could go, then the Rodon news. The bad: Rodon's shoulder Burdi's elbow Anderson's first half Fulmers first 4/5s of season Saladino The good: Improvement from virtually all pitching prospects (sans fulmer) Generally good health production way over expectations for AAA-Majors players that were not top prospects. (How many years did we bring up these players with not a lot of hype outwardly but decent AAA numbers and they just fell flat on their face. I expected a whole lot of Asche's and Jacob Mays, but everything after that was thrilling to me) We built up our prospects this year and basically had one flame out (fulmer) before becoming something to think about. That's good.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) It’s actually much harder to try and fix the how. But it’s worth it. That's actually Taylorst's own argument.

Saturday night beisbol for Sox fans: Sox at Tribe 6:10 PM CDT
Bullpen is so weird. Seems like when one has a bad night they all do. All good together all bad together. And they've been mostly good. How the heck are we winning this game.

Sox - Tribe
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 07:17 PM) I think Pelfrey has sealed his fate. I doubt he will back next year. It's already 7-0 Indians He got pretty screwed in that Sox run inning.

Does Abreu fit into Sox longer term plans?
Yeah i'd do it too. We just have so little longterm assets and frankly in 4-5 years when it would really hurt, I don't see that contract still being that insane unless tv revenues truly crash. But MLB is the one sport that I think handles it.

Does Abreu fit into Sox longer term plans?
Considering upcoming drafts and the current system, do people think there is really that much risk in holding onto assets like Abreu/Garcia even if it means no return (aside from performance)? I'm really not that worried and a lot happens in 2 years. See what we were like in 2015.

Failed deal with Pirates
Jimenez was one of my favorite prospects so I'm glad it worked out the way it did. But, I'm not writing off these guys yet as failed. Glasnow definitely looks like he may be a BP piece, however.

2017 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) Part of the issue is Albies would have had to replace either Anderson or Moncada. I think the Sanchez comparison was a way of hand-waiving away the somewhat troublesome process that would be. I heard for 2-3 years how Yolmer wouldn't stick at short because he had a weak arm, then we just put him at 3b and he's been awesome. All 3 of those guys can play "infield". Albies can play all 3. Moncada can play 2b/3b. If the cubs can make happ/zobrist/russell/baez/bryant work, we could have made them work. And while albies is not your typical power 3b, an infield of Moncada/Anderson/Albies would be unbelievably fast and athletic, and a very diverse set of hitters. It ultimately doesn't matter now. But with the draft next year we shouldn't shy away from MI because our current set-up. But more importantly, if there is a player i'd bet on to succeed, it's these 3 checkboxes: - Performs well at a young age - Good approach at plate - Plus defensive player (which likely means above average speed) Long term really don't think his power profile is that different than Anderson, who in juiced ball era is a 20 hr player.

The Collins improved at D stuff hasn't really come from anyone other than the white sox. Haven't seen a good report by any prospect source. He may be fine there, but it's still a question mark.

2017 MLB Catch-All Thread
I was one of a few very pro Albies voices when we thought he may be here in a trade. Slashline for first 54 games .281/.354/.443 with 5 hrs, 8 doubles and 5(!) triples. 36 Ks to 21 BBs. 7 of 8 stolen bases. Soxtalk slapped a Yolmer Sanchez label on him and couldn't see past it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) That is pretty reasonable. With three of the top guys graduating, it does open up more spots than I was thinking. I agree those are our top 4, and there is a pretty clear gulf between Hansen and whoever is #5 right now. #5 probably does make sense TBH. But still, the fact that we are going to make a top 5 pick and they will be still rated that low is pretty crazy. Yeah, and it will be interesting. This shouldn't and doesn't matter, but if you get a player like Singer it's likely a top 45 prospect right away. High schoolers slot a little farther down. But very likely we have a top-75 player right off the bat.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) How crazy is that we are going to get a top 5 pick and they might not be a top 5 prospect for us. I'd be surprised if they weren't with graduations. Jimenez, Kopech, Hansen, Robert but I'd imagine our top 5 pick slots in at 5 and possibly 4 ahead of Hansen.
