I'd be pretty happy if Gentry becomes Sanzenbacher. Team desperately needs a player that gets open on 3rd down and catches it.

If we do get someone like Hankins at lower slot, going to be a lot of fun to be able to get a round 2 of a Joe Gray Jr. That's what makes this draft interesting. This 2nd round is going to have a lot of prep players that maybe would have been in the teens the past few years.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) According to BR the Tigers are 5-22 for the month of September. Hard to top that s*** show. Good thing Cleveland is still playing for the AL #1 seed. Should help the Sox hold onto the #4 pick next year. Right. We are talking about facing off against a team with possibly the worst september in history (LIKELY)

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) Death is not an option. Mike Glennon or Jonathon Quinn? Honestly glennon. At least when Glennon throws there is a reasonable chance of a completion. QUinn just couldn't find anyone and when he threw it it was nowhere near them. What has been so remarkable about Glennon is how much his lack of mobility hurts him. When you hear a QB is a statue to me that's not THAT big of a warning sign. But because he processes the play so slowly he becomes completely vulnerable to ... lotsa fumbles. But we should have seen this coming. His thoughts on why he did so well in the 3rd preseason game should have been more damning. He can only execute a play that he knows where his ball is supposed to go and the play goes as planned. He is not capable of creating in any way shape or form. But yeah, when he throws it, his deep accuracy hasn't been bad and when he really drives the ball he looks good. But everything needs to go right.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 05:41 PM) Well, this specific incident, based on the allegations to date, as it pertains to Underwood are that Evans used his influence to steer kids to a specific agency in exchange for $22k. Evans (and by extension Underwood) aren't tied up in $100k to Bowen or the $150k for Little (I think that's the AZ side of this). There might be more on Evans, and there might be a lot against Underwood that hasn't come out yet, but based on the indictment against Evans, Underwood looks pretty insulated. You are correct, but I think what you need to worry about is information being uncovered that doesn't implicate Underwood in the criminal investigation but could uncover basic recruiting violations that the NCAA is not just going to ignore. Presumably, the investigators could ask what directions or activities they were doing in general, and Evans could answer honestly that he made payments for a recruit and underwood knew, etc. Or it may not. And Even if it happened, that could just affect OK State, but NCAA has tried to use things like this before to enforce their own rules. He's probably fine, but the issue isn't if BU is going to be arrested for this crime, he probably sin't, it's if in the process of investigating this crime they uncover non-criminal recruiting violations that pull in underwood. edit: and again, why I bring this up is how the NCAA used the criminal investigation of Shapiro for information on non-criminal recruiting violations by Frank Haith. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) Shouldn't Ryan Pace be held accountable for giving Glennon $15M? I get that they now have Trubisky and Glennon is not a long term solution but when they signed him they must of felt he was at least a good QB. Complete misfire there by pace and his staff. Yes. Because their evaluation was essentially is Mike Glennon better than Brian Hoyer, not "was Mike Glennon the QB of future". I think they knew the latter was not true. But it's clear they thought Glennon was at least at the Ryan Fitzpatrick level of quarterbacking, and he was definitely not. Now, saving grace would I guess be that this would be a pro scouting fail, and not a amateur scouting fail, and it looks like we have a shot with Trubs. But I have not been impressed with our pro scouting, even though granted we've largely bargain bin shopped.

This sucks but to be honest the main issue has been detroit. Sox haven't performed that much over san fran/phillies. And it's not like the sox haven't shut down 3 of their starting pitchers.

Not a good game. To me this game seals fox being gone next year. Obviously barring a run to the playoffs, but seeing another game like htis in primetime, i just doubt that happens more and more. Treviathan should be gone for the rest of the season as far as I'm concerned. Glennon is just bad. He's just bad. Our passrush doesn't exist. Oh hey, another jordy nelson touchdown.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) I tend to not care generally about schools paying kids on the recruiting trail. I know it's against the NCAA's rules, but the kids are unpaid labor (I know, I know, they get scholarships) whose likenesses and talents bring in loads of revenue for everybody other than themselves. Ergo, while I tend to agree that the head coach obviously knows how the assistant is operating, I can't really bring myself to care that much (and that includes Pitino, Calipari, Miller, etc.). With that being said, the indictment against Evans is that he steered players toward a specific agency, and that he was paid around $22k for his influence. If that is the extent of the allegations against Evans, it's reasonable to believe that Underwood isn't caught up in that. Doesn't directly impact recruiting, the payments are really pretty small for a guy making north of $1M annually. Underwood would have to be dumb to be pulled into that. BUT I think one of the allegations on Evans says that he said that he needed some cash to set up a recruit's mom. That gets into an area where the NCAA could have an issue with Underwood. Also don't know what Evans might say/know that might get Underwood in trouble with the feds. Right. The NCAA will try to use the criminal process toward its own investigations since criminal investigations have actual subpoena power. They famously had to throw out their punishment for frank haith after sitting in interview for criminal investigation they had no reason to be in. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) Tony Romo is awesome calling games. Was really surprised at how good he was. I think he is calling the Bears vs Packers game Thursday night. Totally agree

Just goes to show: try to tank, end up with a bunch of players who play hard til the end of the year. Don't try to tank (2013 white sox, 2016 twins, 2017 giants) end up with worse record because all of the vets mail it in.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 07:22 AM) Do you really think the offense will be any different with Trubiskey with the current set of WRs? I wouldn't throw to any of them either. That's the point. Any QB can run an offense of dumpoffs. At least with Trubisky we'll get less sacks and some nice rollouts. There have also been plenty of highlights of Glennon missing wide open receivers.

The 2016 offseason was just amazing. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 06:49 PM) He's terrific. Too bad he's working with a stiff. He reminds me of Thayer and sounded like he loved it. Was refreshing. He wasn't playing "announcer"

I'm really enjoying Romo as color guy.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) I don’t know if it is directly correlated but this O Line opened some gaping holes with Kyle Long back in it I think it isn't a coincidence, because especially outside runs where pulling we were excellent. Howard was great at both getting to2nd level quick, but escaping multiple broken plays with yards.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) When do we expect Trubisky to get the call? After Thurs. I will be very disappointed if longer.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) A merely mediocre QB would be better, a formidable one would be game changing Considering how limited he runs our offense, hard to imagine how this can be justified beyond this week...however, couldn't pick worse timing then before a Thursday night game. So glennon...you better ball out on your last game as a starter. We know you won't.

Can't wait to see Dave Cameron's chats this week that will again say "actually giolito is bad"

Our rbs are amazing

For those tracking at home, we should have just won.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) Worst FA signing in Chicago sports history? Not even close. He's largely inconsequential.

How could you actually win a game with glennon
