QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 06:11 PM) I like Phil Rogers but he just said he would rather have Lackey or Lester start a playoff game than Kershaw because of Kershaws postseason numbers up until now. Insane. I like Phil when he writes columns on historical stories and profiles, but not at all as a sport pundit.

Astros should be embarrassed

I want Fulmer to throw all inside and see if any are going to be called a ball.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 04:53 PM) I'm hoping the first rounder next year is more than a trade chip. We acquired some pretty good prospects by trading some elite players. Flip it.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) If TA is good (and Sox are picking up his two team options) and Turang is a top prospect, say top 10 in MLB, but is still 3-4 years away then the Sox can flip him for whatever they need to make a pennant push. I just really like the idea of drafting a top SS prospect. Those are rare and guys like Beer frequently drop into the 8-20 range. Sox aren't going to be picking top 3 again in 2019 if things go well next year development wise. Right, the guy we draft in 2018 may very well just be fuel we need to get us over the hump in 2020 with a trade.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) I don't think that Hahn and co. are going to try to add pieces that will make the team more competitive, I think they'll be looking for guys that they can flip potential at the deadline. I agree that the pitching next year will be a problem next year but the offense should be more consistent next year. I do think they will fill charlotte with a bunch of Pelfrey / Holmberg like pitchers to prevent them from forcing up Kopech / Adams / Guerrerro pieces before they want. -
This Dodgers collapse is stunning. Was crazy when they came in July. Seemed like every one of their hitters had a .900 OPS.

I just don't see the need until after next year. I don't think we'll save that much money. We'll have plenty to extend him for 2 years. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) A good trivia question from back in the day. I'm not sure if it's still true as I haven't researched it. Who is the only player to drive himself in as many times as he drove others in while hitting 30 or more HRs? For example 30 HR and 60 RBI First thought was kingman but closes he got was 36/82

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) Didn't his plantar fasciitis act up at some point? Or was that the next year? Tough to keep track of all the injuries. That was year before, the next year was the knee being shot and then got "a minor scope" and he showed up to preseason 5 months later a different player. Weird how so many minor operations from the Bulls org ended up turning into worse problems. -

I love NOah. Dude didn't work on his game? When bulls season was tanking without Rose and trading Deng, Thibs asked him to become a point guard and he DID it and was GOOD at it. -
QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) I completely agree. I didn't mean to make it seem like that's who I'd like. I honestly don't know yet and don't know enough about everyone. I like Turnag and Hankins a lot. I just wouldn't put Beer past them since that's the type of player they've been drafting. They haven't been too interested in Defense the past few years so I'm not certain that'll change. I acknowledge the tendancy last few years, but the past 2 we've been just at the backend of the "top tier" of talent, then when dropped off, you had to choose between best bat, best athlete, projectable HS arm or College pitcher. That's where they've been leaning best bat. But it seemed the rumor was they loved Mackenzie Gore this year and it seemed like maybe we liked beck. But when that wave was gone, they've prioritized a big bat over college SP/HS p and good athletes. I don't think they'll have to make that choice, where they pick they should see a great athlete with a good hit tool, and a dominating pitcher.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 08:35 PM) Any update on Avi? I hope its nothing serious that affects our chances of winning the 2019 World Series I'm no longer watching, but nothing on twitter yet. Hoping it was something illness related, like a quick stomach bug. Edit: SWEAR I DIDN"T KNOW but the white sox just tweeted that it was due to stomach discomfort.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 08:30 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/wrc/ I don't think baserunning factors in, it's more his OBP that's driving it. And his BsR is currently only rated 0.1 anyway (though that seems low). EDIT: nevermind it does factor in. Yeah it modifies a formula from a baserunning metric but I didn't know how it's weighted. All good stuff. Even if he ends up being a streaky hitter as he has been this year, he walks even in down times and gets on base. He's going to touch home a lot for us.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 08:17 PM) With that HR Moncada has now surpassed Devers in wRC+. Pretty impressive considering where they both were just a couple weeks ago. That's wild. I'm kinda surprised his wRC+ is so high. Elevated because of baserunning then?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) Most definitely. However, if this season is a sign of things to come for Miguel Cabrera, he may be on that route. This will be the first year of his career since 2004 (first full season) that Miguel Cabrera did not get an MVP vote. So he had about 2 years more of top of league play. I think he will scrape out at least 2 more .900 OPS years.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) I think the Tigers will finish the season unwon. Me too. They have absolutely given up and still are a bunch of vets that arent "playing for their lives"

Melky was the only thing fun about this team for 2.5 years. He loved playing baseball visibly so much. I'd love that back, but I hate getting a guy one year too late. Paul Konerko, I just wanted him to retire as a sox. But I didn't enjoy that last year at all.

Bears, as a reminder, were hoping to land Cooter as QB coach when we hired Gase. Lost him to Lions. That would have been dream to get him to OC after Gase left, and then do the Tampa Bay Dirk Koetter move with Fox.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Isn't McDaniels unstable though? He was a poor head coach in Denver and drafted Tebow in the first round. He reminds me of Lane Kiffin. Probably deserves another shot but I don't want to be the one that gives it to em.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Wasn't his curveball supposed to be his best pitch in the minors? I'm not disagreeing with you on how it's looked for us, but I swear that everything I've read listed it as plus plus. I remember comments when he was in high school on how it was the best amateur curve people have ever seen. I guess the good news is if he doesn't get a good curve off it is not hanging in the zone...it's hitting the dirt 5 feet in front of the batter.
