  1. The talent evaluators I respect like Longenhagen have stressed that Moncada will have an adjustment period in MLB moreso than others. He even mentioned Buxton in that sentence. But those struggles are baked into their evaluation, not washed over. It's going to be a bit scary, but I 100% believe he'll get there. Far scarier to me than his ks (having watched a lot of them) is his RH ability right now. I thought power would be an issue from the right side, but contact looks difficult for him there too.
  2. I think this board underrates Vlad, I see him and JImenez very similar. This was why I was so excited to get Jimenez. Offense is just so much more fun.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) I'll be at today's KAN game Nice, look forwrd to hearing how it goes.
  4. I know part of it is a fluky first half but I don't think any of us have grappled with just how crazy it was that Avi Garcia became an all star. If Nicky keeps this run (not .400, but you know what I mean, being a good power hitter) through the end of year, great for us.
  5. I'm really happy for the type of production Davidson has performed, but, I also have not felt like he's been anywhere as close as Leury, Avi, Kevan Smith and now even Delmonico have to creating a shot at being on 2019 roster. Due to likely nobody being at 3b he's going to be around next year, but he needs a big jump in his walks. But I'm really happy that he's gotten a big league run and has come back from bad slumps. Those 2 years in AAA were really bottom barrel and he picked himself up and gave himself a chance at a turn in the bigs.
  6. good work joejoe
  7. I block all avatars and sigs, but knowing that Steve changed from Gob upsets me.

3 years is a long time
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Isn't Delmonico's offensive potential basically what Rutherford's is? Yes but Delmonico is a DH
  10. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) If people/cities/states want to vote to take down MLK statues go for it. Last I checked the city council of Charlottesville voted to take down the statute. No one forced them to. The issue is actually in court as other people have sued to keep the statute. The meme shows a fundamental lack of understanding of what is going on. It's so silly isn't it? If they want to put forth the argument in good faith, make it. But fighting gay marriage was not the cause of MLKs life, fighting racial and economic justice was. And he is remembered for it. Robert Lee mentioned a few times opposition to slavery, though overall he was not anti slavery. But the CAUSE he fought for was to preserve slavery. People make choices.
  11. Granted Curtis made much more off the court than on it so maybe not that big of a risk.
  12. And further it is such a terrible thing that we are so familiar with Taney's name and I happen to run into knowledge like this about Benjamin Robbins Curtis, much like the author of the article who runs into a modest plaque for him. http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/polit...urtis-memorial/ He wrote the dissenting opinion in Dred Scott, demolishing the opinion with all of the moral clarity we would recognize today. Some were RIGHT back then, and commemorated much less than those who were wrong. He resigned from the court he was so disgusted. He took risks for his beliefs. He wasn't rewarded and was much less remembered in history. He has no great statue I'm aware of before a government court house. He then led the articles of impeachment against Andrew Johnson. Huge figure at the time, marginal years later. But oh, so glad I can riddle off Confederate generals off the top of my head.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 08:51 AM) Why is the removal of statues considered changing history? Trump realizes those people still exist in history if their monument is removed, right? In things called...books? Well, a lot more people agree with him than not and people have an intense attachment to status quo. Those same people won't have patience for the nuanced discussion of how these statues went up half a century after the civil war in response to civil rights advances. How they often explicitly were put up to establish white dominance of the community. Or about how neighbors in their community feel when they have to walk by a statue of Judge Taney before walking into a courthouse, author of the most awful majority opinion in United States history. They know the statues have been there and, after all, it's just history. But that history is f***ed. The civil war history I learned in the suburbs of illinois was so sanitized in the same ways these statues were intended to sanitize history. It's the same crap. The handwringing over the march to the sea. Same playbook we see know. "Well of COURSE slavery is bad, we all agree on that, but the north wasn't so perfect either!". And it works like a charm.
  14. WE ONLY HAVE 7 GUYS IN THE TOP 100 WE SHOULD BE REALLY PPIIIISSSSSEEEEEDDDDD
  15. Not sure why Collins should be included.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) Well they really dont like Rutherford eh? You know I think when 2018 is reranked FG may be the high guy on him. Blake will have to rework his swing to get more balls in the air, Longenhagen liked his swing to be able to hit for power but he said Rutherford seem uninterested in doing anything but hitting grounders to all fields.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 06:06 PM) Thanks for posting! Would love to see the same thing for the 2014 & 2015 classes as well. Overall, pretty dissapointmented with Paddy's work to date. The only guys who have graduated to full season ball so far have dissapointed (Cruz, Rodriguez, Martinez, Solorzano) other than Tatis. I guess maybe that's not entirely Paddy's fault, as it could be player development related to some degree, but the results out of LatAm have generally been pretty poor IMO. So one of the reasons I did this is usually DSL seems awful when I look at it for the signings. Here's a flavor of last year for the 2015 guys Tatis dnp had he we may have never traded him Franklin Reyes in AZL .171 / .189 / .251 Santo Vazquez .233 / .300 /.305 Vazquez is a SS and has actually shown good power this year with 5 HRs but less contact. .247 / .351 / .411 (so rare I find over .400 slugging with these dudes) Dude has a 27% k rate though. But he could be interesting next year. Brayant Nova was alright, and had stats similar to Comas/Mieses above .279 / .380 / .344 And he is doing fine again in DSL his second year: .276 / .366 / .373 and he has a good k and bb rate. Those were the 4 I know about. The 2014 guys are Nunez, etc Why it's exciting to see Sosa have good contact/k rate, because we are used to seeing Reyes/Nunez numbers in AZL, which were like this: .145 / .207 / .158 So maybe they dont progress, but I like the low k rates so far, it allows them to sell out for more power next year as they mature while not going into a danger zone territory. And that's all I have to say about 17 year old kids (JK I spent way too much time on this please comment and make a megathread)
  18. It should give some play to the young Americans too, but, if I was going to the open this year I'd be pretty pissed
  19. FWIW power showing up more in ML than AAA has been happening pretty consistently last 2 years, but to answer the question, no I don't expect Delmonico to hit .400.
  20. Avi should have sent that to some local adjacent town
  21. Crushed that
