Callis: Who Did Well Day 2
http://m.mlb.com/news/article/236343488/ml...-well-on-day-2/ You can see Twins cleaned up on Prep players. Much more possible at #1 and with a comp pick. We'll see a different draft I'm guessing with a top 3 pick (fingers crossed)

Which young Sox hitter/s are you most excited about?
Out of curiosity why would you calculate strikeout rate by ABs and not PAs?

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 09:19 AM) MLB with zero salary cap has more parity than the NFL. NHL has the most. http://harvardsportsanalysis.org/2016/12/w...he-most-parity/ This is true, but NBA becomes more dramatic just due to 5 players. NBA just needs to get rid of the max contract, it solves all of this. But when you have weaknesses spread out among 9/10/11 guys on field it introduces more parity. I know hockey has 5 at one time but the ice time isn't remotely similar to how many minutes top basketball players can play in a game.

Surprises me after gabby giffords, but I guess they would just reach out to local police then.

Guess we will find out soon enough. #3/5 are scary. I would be v surprised if congress did not have allocated protection for themselves. But i suppose I have never heard anything concrete there.

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) I expect more of this as Trump and his Republican ilk continue to try to cater this country to a select few people. There is no justification for this. They are using political means and it should be met with political means. Violence has no place there.

Am impressed by the resiliency to this response so far. Business continuing on in capitol. Leaders offering condolences, no great panic or freakout. I do think this type of response can hopefully cut down on sick allure to copycat events.

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:34 PM) No chance the sox sign him then. That's one of the top water polo schools in the nation. Must have picked him knowing they won't sign him and save some money. That actually wouldn't help us. If he doesn't sign we lose that slot money, if we wanted to save money would be much better signing a college senior for under 100k.

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) I'm really digging this draft as well, assuming that we can sign all of these guys Burger Sheets Gonzalez Henzman Johnson McClure Skoug Abbott? I think we got three interesting arms in Henzman, Johnson and McClure. McClure stands out as a player who could be a late bloomer given his huge size. Burger, Sheets and Skoug certainly add a power element that did not really exist within the organization. Each also helps fill out our organizational depth. If we didn't sign Abbott I wouldn't be that bummed. To not sign a college junior would be pretty odd (in the top 10)

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:08 PM) What's the report on this guy? Interesting timing to go high schooler here consider the last few picks will likely be overslot. My guess is because this guy doesn't have a strong college bball commit he may not be that expensive for a high schooler.

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) sounds like a wasted pick to me. They have gotten a lot of very developed players, in the 8th round, going after a projectable player is not a waste. Maybe 2 of the 8th rounders will be a major leaguer for multiple years.

so soon to be rounds 8-10. Wonder how many actual slot guys we can get, or if any are high schoolers. If we go high schooler I would imagine we may need to draft seniors 9 and 10

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) The only concern that I have so far with the draft is that it seems like the Sox FO still doesnt put a high priorty on defense. Really wanted to see that come through in this rebuild. I assume there are probably very few players that are great with both offense and defense but still would like to have seen some more promising reports that guys that they take play exceptional defense. Yes, this. It looks like a team that would look similar to Charlotte, with a lot of your best players are only average defensively. It does seem like for up the middle players we have some nice athleticism org wide in anderson, moncada, robert, Basabe along with some fundamentally sound guys in Sanchez, Saladino, and Mendick. And you see the same with Luis Gonzalez. But the corner guys seem to lack that. But aside from Charlotte with Delmonico and Hayes, the corners are both bad hitting and defense. Getting some good hitting 3b and 1b is at least correcting one. Sheets defense wasn't considered a negative though.
