"White Sox fire sale isn’t over — it just got paused"
bmags replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Joel Sherman is the best. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) Reminds me of what people use to say about Ruddy Yan (my old FutureSox heads might remember who that is) He was the first prospect disappointment I had, because I was like 12 going to whitesox.com and looking at minor league stats. Didn't he have 90 stolen bases in low A? edit: http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=yan---001rud 88 stolen bases in Winston Salem.

QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 07:04 PM) I would like to respectfully ask for clarification on your post. Though I am admittedly ignorant on the subject, I would assume there is a huge difference in scouting specialties. Amateurs are probably based off of predictability/potential while ML scouts would try to focus on exploitation. Does anyone know if most scouts generally experts in both or one or the other? I would think that a reallocation of the budget from player payroll to scouting would make more sense than the reallocation of scouts. Sorry they changed from scouting all minor league systems equally to focus only on farms of potential partner.

wow, was out for 3 hours and worst fears of this offseason confirmed. If you were to run all the possibilities of this offseason in January how many had you with Bears losing Jeffrey for nothing, getting no top cornerback, and signing Mike Glennon as a starter Short of Myles Garrett suddenly falling to 3, this is the worst case scenario.

I really like that move by Cleveland.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) "An anonymous AL scout said "The Sox aren't attending Houston games. Last one here said "f*** off, Lunhow."" Would love an MLB version of blind items
-
Yes, that exactly.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) This is a non story. I'm sure the Sox have a scout or 2 at every one of Houston's games, every one of Pittsburgh's games. The bigger story would be if they didn't have a scout at Yankee games. Ha, I would love those stories in a way.

Cool, now that i've taken us there. Easy to always want to try and build a team like the last one that won it all. The cubs are a juggernaut of elite power and defense, and incredible depth. But, what an interesting team that could begin to form with a middle of the diamond of Anderson/Moncada/Mateo. What if Mateo could recreate becoming one of the best CF in baseball just because of speed (ala billy hamilton). At that point, you have something interesting. A collection of some incredibly fast players with potential elite defense. That would supplement what looks to be a very promising young staff. If somehow you also get someone like Luis Robert, you are talking about a very interesting outfield. Will it work? Who knows, but power arms and fast as hell players is a cool team imo.

is the / operative as a "and" or a "or" Honestly because I like Rutherford a lot, I think Rutherford/Kaprellian/Mateo/diaz-type is pretty good to me.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) So to pay for a border wall - which will cost $20B or more and do next to nothing to stop illegal immigration - we are going to cut security in areas of actual concern? Brilliant. Also funny to me that building a wall on our southern border also doesn't allow us to cut back on CBP agents.
-
The giants went ham last year, made playoffs. I didn't want a thousand players signed. I just wanted a cornerback or safety. When Berry re-signed, just a cornerback. I wasn't greedy.
-
I know everyone is down on Mateo but I think he is someone that could easily be tried in CF and becomes a less risky prospect.
-
Not shocked, according to Fabian they changed scouting last July to only top farms to get more info on potential trades back. May have a few teams on a short list for July and are focused, but so many more cover yankees that this gets out.

There are interesting ideas around guaranteeing catastrophe insurance but that is much more effective if we got out of employer provided healthcare and that is too scary for people.

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 08:40 AM) And its Free Agency! Everyone overpays in FA. How does Pace not understand that? Well maybe we will just use cap to sign our own productive players oh no actually we may let alshon walk!

Unsurprising https://twitter.com/JosinaAnderson/status/839846117277827072

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 08:31 AM) Unless Gilmore just wanted to play for a proven winner, Pats are an easy choice if it's between the 2. What is the point of not signing any of our productive talent to create cap space if we aren't going to outbid for talent?
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 08:12 AM) What pisses me off about Pace right now is that he has been spewing all this nonsense about having restraint in FA and making all these financially conscious decisions but he seems to be missing out on everyone except for the one guy nobody else wanted and he is over bidding on him. WTF So true. How in Hell are we letting the Patriots outbid us for cornerback talent?

http://wgnradio.com/2017/03/08/hoge-scouti...k-mike-glennon/ I hope you guys are prepared for when I suddenly start hyping up Glennon because I buy into everything.
-
If that's the real contract, I have a hard time believing that Pace will turn this around. I could squint and see a temporary competitive push with Tyrod Taylor while a young QB grooms. I cannot squint and see Mike Earthworm Jim Glennon doing anything but be miserable.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
bmags replied to Southwest Sider's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Diaz continues to be an interesting part of this deal, if only because from what we know it was the sox identifying him and saying "DIAZ WE NEED DIAZ". now, he could have just been a part of a list of players as a 4th, we don't know that. But from all accounts he was chosen by us. -
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) Is this being floated out there right now? That should make everyone hurl. That was from dasox post, but I didn't quote it. Instead I am quoting you.

Alright two things: - Great rant, I'm going to put that in the freezer and use it when people are talking about the same thing as me - It's possible that I don't know how to read

Is this the NFL thread
