QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 07:17 AM) Hawk is, today at least, an awful announcer. He throws in a constant stream of drawl-tinged one-liners that got old a decade ago pretty constantly, leaves huge gaps of silence when he's not in a good mood, and utterly refuses to acknowledge most any useful statistical measures. He spends half his broadcasts telling old war stories, and they're the same ones. My question is, what is he actually good at? I will say that when the team is doing well, he's obviously very excited about it and that helps bring the fans in emotionally. I think that's his only positive quality in the job, to be honest. I'll say this for Hawk even now: his content is awful but he still sounds like no one else. I like Benetti but he is a move toward "broadcasting voice". When you turn on the television and Hawk is on it sounds like white Sox and nothing else. Something that distinctive was cool, is cool, but was not everything.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 01:33 PM) It's his alma mater. Is there anyone out there who wouldn't dream about coaching their alma mater? True, but lotta people dream about being the coach of UCLA. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) Again, 29 owners will be cheap bastards not interesting in winning when Machado signs his $300 million-$400 million contract. The contract ARod signed was about $100 million more than any other team offered him, and the Rangers got worse despite ARod putting up ridiculous numbers. No one called Tom Hicks cheap. They called him a dumb ass. I bet if you asked him today, he would preferred to have been called cheap. Even ARod was called an asshole for taking that contract. The line was he preferred being paid over winning. Like anyone else would turn down an extra $100 million. Preemptively calling out fans 2 years before free agency for calling sox cheap bastards isn't really that interesting to me. I think White Sox will go after Machado. They will likely lose out, but such is the life of a non dodgers/yankees/red sox fan. Whether or not Machado is worth it? Revenue is skyrocketing and every team is worth over a billion. I hope the owners get squeezed for money soon. I'd rather Machado get paid than Tom Ricketts.

Position prospects are more valuable than pitching prospects. Q trades discuss more highly rated position prospects.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) Anyone suggested Hoiberg for these jobs yet? Maybe solve two franchise problems? He was a name in Feb but after he survived that went away. -

Bizarre timing. Sucks for Illinois but may not matter if they have guy. But hope would be IU didn't hear some coach was receptive to leaving that they liked, decided to grab instead. -
More like soxtalk has been proposing trades for over a year with the best of the best prospects that getting a top 25 prospect and top 50 prospect are trades with "no ascertainable headliner"

Be nice if Kendall fell to us.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) Chance the Sox try to pickup Bryce Montes de Oca this year? He has turned the corner, but isn't he at 2 TJs now? He may as well stay until a senior.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) Take ARods deal and start multiplying. Machado is going to be making $35-40 million a year if not more for a long, long time. To think the White Sox will pay it is most likely a pipedream. And calling them cheap or not interesting in winning if they don't is ridiculous as well. I'm sure they would love to have him. Also keep in mind if many of the team's prospects pan out, they are going to eventually have to be paid as well. Well yeah, the a rod deal would have happened almost 20 years earlier. "Also keep in mind if many of the team's prospects pan out, they are going to eventually have to be paid as well." Gives you at least 4 years to figure that out.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) Jamall Walker is the assistant, and the inside scoop is that Tilmon stays at Illinois if Walker does. Does Walker guarantee Tilmon at another school? No, but it gives you a big edge. And Mark Smith is also being recruited heavily by...Walker. EJ Liddel is being recruited really well by...Walker. He's a good recruiter, and knows the St. Louis area really, really well. Smith will go to Illinois with a good hire, kids loves Illinois but obviously we've thrown a lot of obstacles at him. Right. Risky move by Walker though. If you are parlaying your success to guaranteeing two 18 year olds will follow, you better be right. -
So this budget won't pass. But, really hoping our tourism industry doesn't get destroyed next few years.

Why is Houston getting away with acting like Martes + Tucker are some can't miss top ten recruits ala Meadows/Torres? They really aren't that different than Rutherford + Kaprellian. I'd take Kaprellian over Martes, Tucker over Rutherford, but still.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 09:44 AM) Afford? Sure. Do it? I would fade that action til the cows come home. Even though he may not even be a part of it, JR does seem to value ATTEMPTING to get bonafide young stars when they hit market. He won't go after Mark Teixera or Soriano, but when an A Rod or big foreign FA came out, we have bid higher than the 6 for 68 number.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 09:09 AM) I don't see it even with Tilmon. There is almost no talent on that roster right now. Porter is amazing but the last two #1 picks played for teams that didn't even play in the NCAA tournament so that hardly guarantees anything. Martin had Jaylen Brown, a top 5 NBA draft pick, Ivan Rabb who will be a first round pick this year, plus Jordan Matthews, Tyrone Wallace and Jabari Bird last year and didn't even have a top 25 team. That isn't to say Missouri fans shouldn't be excited if that happens especially with how bad they've been. It just means you are probably looking more at a bubble type team than a contender to really win anything. It's not just Porter Jr. though, it's Johntay who will class up to play with his brother. They have 4 star guard CJ Roberts who may come, may go, but if it is the splashiest of 2 Porters, Mark Smith and Tilmon, they have pretty decent pieces in Puryear, Barnett and Phillips that are great role players but bad stars. Plus Anderson was just so especially bad. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) And if the rumor about them stealing the IL assistant and getting Tilmon too? Wow. That is a top 10 squad instantly. Sam Snelling talked about that. Apparently that assistant is promoting himself as someone who comes with Tilmon, but there isn't much of a connection outside that. However, lots of smoke that Mark Smith, a 4-star guard from edwardsville is likely to follow Martin. -

Martin really went from good to great because of Porter news (knock on wood). Porters mean more to Columbia than any other program. But also Martin finally gets us in to SL area which has been a must for program forever. -
Lol that center field one is the best

Holy smokes. ROMAR IS OUT AT WASHINGTON. Maybe this Michael Porter Jr. in play stuff is true. Man, if Mizzou landing Martin leads to a homecoming of Porter Jr... Couldn't be a bigger turnaround from the sinkhole of the last 3 years. -
That's nice to get over with.
