  1. QUOTE (Username @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) Not sure how he can criticize Moncada's bat wrapping tendencies and be okay with Bellinger's swing long-term (it's got a serious hitch and wraps a bit as well) but that's just me. The SO criticisms are certainly warranted, but from what I've seen he's not chasing pitches - guy actually has great plate discipline, which tends to translate to fixing problems like that. The strike out to end last night was the perfect example: he worked a deep count and got a bad call by the ump. I agree with you, but this board is insane with the trashing any negative write-ups on players or prospects as biased and chasing any good reports as the "real" reports. He has Moncada ranked THIRTEENTH. He obviously thinks he is good.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:39 AM) Seems to criticize Moncada for striking out, but has Meadows ranked above him who has been awful in his first 5 minor league games batting .056 and striking out 9 time in 20 plate appearances Collins has been pretty impressive so far in 6 games, having thrown out 3-4 potential base stealers, only allowing a runner to advance with runners on third and first and he faked the throw to second yeah.
  3. So there it is, the first apology in the Trump administration is for claiming a dictator was worse than Hitler's because he did something hitler never did, except what he did was what Hitler was known for, and then even in that apology tried to clarify by saying Jews weren't innocent people. Glad we found the line.
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) Keith Law updated his top 50. Basically didn't move any players around from his top 100 but he took out guys that have graduated from prospect status like Swanson, Bell, Benintendi etc: http://www.espn.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=6988 #5 Michael Kopech Best upside of any starter in high minors Potential for 3 plus pitches #1 starter build and delivery that works Command and secondary offerings not major league ready Struck out 10/18 batters in AA debut Top 5 starter in baseball upside #11 Lucas Giolito Up and down showing in spring training Working on restoring old delivery Low 90's 2 seamer more and mid 90's 4 seamer less Transition could mean more AAA time #13 Yoan Moncada White Sox bumped Moncada to AAA even though he came into year with just 53 games above A ball Doing what he usually does, making hard contact when he makes contact and striking out more than you'd like Playing 2B full time again. Law gets criticized by Sox fans because he doesn't think Lopez and Fulmer are starters and he's the low man in the industry on Moncada. He's the high man on Kopech though and still believes in Giolito when many don't. But yes, he hates the Sox. And his criticism of Moncada is the same as many posters in the minor league thread last night.
  5. It's been 1 week.
  6. So Cespedes may hit four in a game tonight. Was at 3 thru 5 innings.
  7. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 05:34 PM) Ya know, it's too bad the team didn't have this pen the last couple years. Pen looked pretty good last April too.
  8. Nobody has a spot until they have a spot.
  9. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 05:00 PM) I would have let Shields try and finish that inning, think he earned it. Hi Robin
  10. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 04:19 PM) ... Is that a bot or is a person manually doing all of that?
  11. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 01:29 AM) I'd like to change my handle to Jack Parkman, as an homage to MLII. The Indians are the best team in the ALC again, so while that is going on, I'd like this as my anti-Indians handle. Done. Please note you'll still log-in as Elgin Slim.
  12. Because they like Liriano and Garcia but want to work with them outside of the pressure of the big leagues. After poor springs, they bet on being able to get them to minors without losing them, and kept Asche, a player with a nice swing who had a good spring and can play a 3b and OF and platoon with Davidson. With Garcia's start, you may very well see a switch. But it's April 11th.
  13. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) Absolutely this. Spicer clarifying the comment to essentially say, well Hitler never used sarin gas dropped from planes on his people in 2017 makes it look even worse. The intent of the comment is clearly to try to make Assad LOOK WORSE THAN HITLER. It was a terrible comparison. Back down and apologize. Exactly. But also to what end is that serving? If the administration he represents believes that Assad is worse than Hitler, how could they possibly stand by and say it is up to the Syrians to remove Assad. It is an endorsement of US-backed and enforced regime change. But of course that isn't what he is endorsing. He just wants to rationalize their vandalism of a runway.
  14. Just a very stupid group of people made worse by their stance of never, ever backing down when they are shown to have made a mistake.
  15. I've watched it and this is a pretty solid idea.

  17. Let's get a win W-S
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) I think they wouldn't budge because they didn't feel that Quintana was a big enough of an upgrade to do so, given their initial situation. A rotation featuring Keuchel, McCullers, McHugh, Morton, and Musgrove is talented enough that, if everything goes even according to plan, they'd be sitting OK, and there is potential that rotation could be very good. However, injuries can and do strike, as do struggles. McHugh is out for a while and both McCullers and Morton have been injury-riddled. If they get to a point where they are using replacement level performance in their rotation, which could easily cost them in the standings, their willingness to pay more is worth it because of how large the upgrade is. I think you are part right, but I also think they are taking the Dodgers approach to the rotation. Pitchers get injured (as they saw), so acquire/develop as many average/above average pitchers as you can. The injury may have even reinforced the idea that trading out of their pitching depth for one upgrade isn't their best option. But LAD strategy is good at piling up regular season wins. I do think there's something to be said by splurging for dominance, but that depends on them seeing Q as such. Q may be the single embodiment of the value Dodgers get from depth/above average: Q is less dominant traditionally speaking, but always healthy, always good, and ... lefty.
  19. Thanks for sharing. I wonder if Forbes has updated their formula at all considering the Marlins may get 2 billion for that team.
  20. Experimenting with random prove-it or lose-it AAAA types on a rebuilding season is exactly what I wanted them to do. You may strike gold like Philly did. Asche could prove it, or then LIriana will come up, or Garcia. None will really impact the 2017 White Sox, but maybe some could be a long-term starter.
  21. Heads - Cornell Mann talking about running the Hoiberg offense at Mizzou. Opening night will be fun (though I think "pro-style" offense is now a catchall)
  22. This isn't the first year the Bears have been bad though. Draft has always been a pretty big topic here, never seen so few people care especially with a top 3 pick. Not criticizing everyone, just seems like NFL's stranglehold really is weakening.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) It is also how the TWolves lost 5 years worth of #1 draft picks. It is also worth mentioning that the White Sox ownership group did not want this current commissioner elected and worked very hard to elect someone else. I will be shocked if MLB truly cares. The owners wanted price certainty. The MLB wants best players in game to play there. There won't be many more situations like Otani. They'll say not in spirit of rules and maybe change it in next CBA.
  24. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) He bothers me to the extent that he's taking ABs from Davidson, a guy who might still have some upside at the MLB level. Are they really though? Davidson has seemed to have issues mentally. They are setting him up to succeed IMO by platooning him with Asche. Worked for Trayce.
  25. I continue to be amazed how little people care about the Bears this offseason.
