  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 6, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) You mean that he is just another guy out for money and notoriety? Always follow the money. I can't imagine there is a lot of money in trolling white sox fans.
  2. Maybe Avi is like, incredible at tracking the ball in high winds, but has no idea how to track it when it's normal out.
  3. Law isn't only one low on Robert. Longenhagen didn't have a glowing report from last year either. He must also have a white sox bias, knowing when he scouted him last year that the sox might be remotely related.
  4. Did a predictable double-take when I came across Lecich to see if I was in the pitchers or hitters section. W-S looks fun.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) Basketball is probably the worst recruiting game right now, mostly because of the AAU system. But lets be honest, if your school lands top recruits and you win a natty, do you really care if there was smoke around that players recruitment? Because you are lying if you say you do. UNC just got caught for academic fraud and nobody said a f***ing word during the tournament. And they will still land top kids who do zero schoolwork. Yeah I don't really care about money changing hands. Covering up crimes/sexual assault, no tolerance for that. I think MUPD does report all, I think the athletic dept. has been complicit a few times in sweeping under the rug.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) Bmags, I have no doubt Illinois was dirty in this recruitment. But the fact that they pretty much went dirty once, then again at Signing Day to keep SLU/KU away, and now have to again? Just ridiculous, there's fair reason for Illini fans to be upset/exhausted by this recruitment. Not ribbing Illini fans for being upset. Recruiting is a dumb game. Not basketball, but when Mizzou lost out on Jafar Armstrong last year I was pissed. Recruited that kid for 2 years and then he left after a spot opened up on ND. But, my observation wasn't about being upset. I'm not exactly the first person to point this out about Illini fans. 7 footers are obviously a great currency in college basketball, but Underwood isn't going to succeed based off of the play he gets out of Tilmon. Especially for next year, very likely he could get similar production from a grad transfer. Rivals has basically said Tilmon was likely to be downgraded to a 4 star anyway.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) I'm sure it is much more likely he decided out of the blue he wanted to play for a coach that he showed zero interest in at his prior job. And if you think this recruitment is clean now or has ever been clean you are kidding yourself. Listen, not trying to dance on your tears. It was really disappointing when mizzou thought we legit may have shots at Tatum or blakeney or whomever. But, that paragraph is nonsense. Tilmon's principal is Martin's sister. ANd there is a huge difference in playing for Martin at Cal, 1000 miles from home, and playing for him at Missouri, where his folks could watch him play and ESL is all rooting for him. But the much bigger factor is that with Porter at Missouri every NBA scout will be watching every game - a draw usually reserved for kansas, duke, kentucky, unc. But there's also no guarantee Missouri gets him. This may very be from him seeing Smith suddenly getting recruited by blue bloods and him getting cold feet that he decided too early.
  8. QUOTE (Boogua @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) You're being ridiculous if you think this recruitment is clean. Most illinois fans accept that the school operated in the gray area to get him in the first place But my point is this is your default operating assumption. There has not been a recruit who Illinois has lost out on that has not had the "wellp, he got a better offer".
  9. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) If you don't think money or gifts to friends and family play a role in just about every top level recruitment, you're naive. Moreover, in this situation he re-tweeted his commitment mere days ago. Clearly someone in his camp has someone pulling them in another direction. What other reason could their be? No, money and gifts happen in recruiting. But Illini fans have a particular corner covered where only they lose out recruits to higher offers exclusively. It can't be fickle teenage minds, coach guidance, coaching changes, parental advice, no...it's always they got a bag of money. Because Illinois of course has no rich boosters. If he goes to Missouri, it's because our unbelievable booster class offered him more.
  10. The Illini fan obsession with assuming every player that doesn't choose Illinois is getting paid more is really unparalleled.
  11. So the rumor was Walker sold himself as being tied to Tilmon and Smith. Have to wonder if his status gets evaluated if he doesn't get some kids on campus this year.
  12. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) Hope Illinois has made it clear they're not allowing him to go to a big ten team or a team on their schedule (e.g., missouri) edit: actually, can they even do that? or is that just for transfers? Once they release him from his NLI he is free to go wherever. Because they had a coaching change it would be very unlikely the Illini deny it.
  13. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 06:42 PM) It's hard not to root for this guy. Can't believe how time flies- already almost 2 years ago His TJ couldn't have come at a worse time in terms of time of year. By time he could have been ramping up last year in games, the minors season was winding down.
  14. https://correspondent.afp.com/first-thing-hits-you-smell This is so brutal to read, but I had to get through it.
  15. QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) For anyone who may be interested, the Chicago Tribune on Sunday, April 2nd inserted a special 'Baseball 2017' magazine. The 48 page magazine has dual front covers: Tim Anderson on the back, and Addison Russell on the front. I believe the magazine went to Chicago Tribune subscribers only, and was not included with newsstand editions. . D'oh, I'm an idiot. I didn't know TA was on the other side before I tossed it.
  16. Oak Park's props passed. Only one of my preferred school board candidates won a seat for both boards. April local elections are all about turnout. the MLS bonds for St Louis I guess failed ultimately? One passed one failed, was to build a stadium to move MLS there.
  17. I don't remember a Bears offseason talked about less than this one.
  18. My game day is in spanish and I don't know how to change it.
  19. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) you serious Comcast? let the kids mom watch him bat Not watching the game, this is a most confusing post.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) This is just a sloppy game. Ugh. Verlander threw that right into Avi's side. I hope we charge field. Nobody plunks Avi and lives.
  21. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) True but I don't think one bad out will do anything to hurt his value, especially one this early Yeah, the only thing with Q is there is a bunch of "why is he so good at preventing home runs?" and the answer was, well he just is. But without a good reason people will be quick to judge when he starts giving up HR at an accelerated rate as regression.
  22. Rollins. Such a great 2 hitter. Veteran leadership. Can...bunt.
