QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 05:34 PM) Ya know, it's too bad the team didn't have this pen the last couple years. Pen looked pretty good last April too. -
Nobody has a spot until they have a spot.

QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 05:00 PM) I would have let Shields try and finish that inning, think he earned it. Hi Robin -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 04:19 PM) ... Is that a bot or is a person manually doing all of that? -
QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 01:29 AM) I'd like to change my handle to Jack Parkman, as an homage to MLII. The Indians are the best team in the ALC again, so while that is going on, I'd like this as my anti-Indians handle. Done. Please note you'll still log-in as Elgin Slim.

Because they like Liriano and Garcia but want to work with them outside of the pressure of the big leagues. After poor springs, they bet on being able to get them to minors without losing them, and kept Asche, a player with a nice swing who had a good spring and can play a 3b and OF and platoon with Davidson. With Garcia's start, you may very well see a switch. But it's April 11th.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) Absolutely this. Spicer clarifying the comment to essentially say, well Hitler never used sarin gas dropped from planes on his people in 2017 makes it look even worse. The intent of the comment is clearly to try to make Assad LOOK WORSE THAN HITLER. It was a terrible comparison. Back down and apologize. Exactly. But also to what end is that serving? If the administration he represents believes that Assad is worse than Hitler, how could they possibly stand by and say it is up to the Syrians to remove Assad. It is an endorsement of US-backed and enforced regime change. But of course that isn't what he is endorsing. He just wants to rationalize their vandalism of a runway.

Just a very stupid group of people made worse by their stance of never, ever backing down when they are shown to have made a mistake.

I've watched it and this is a pretty solid idea.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) I think they wouldn't budge because they didn't feel that Quintana was a big enough of an upgrade to do so, given their initial situation. A rotation featuring Keuchel, McCullers, McHugh, Morton, and Musgrove is talented enough that, if everything goes even according to plan, they'd be sitting OK, and there is potential that rotation could be very good. However, injuries can and do strike, as do struggles. McHugh is out for a while and both McCullers and Morton have been injury-riddled. If they get to a point where they are using replacement level performance in their rotation, which could easily cost them in the standings, their willingness to pay more is worth it because of how large the upgrade is. I think you are part right, but I also think they are taking the Dodgers approach to the rotation. Pitchers get injured (as they saw), so acquire/develop as many average/above average pitchers as you can. The injury may have even reinforced the idea that trading out of their pitching depth for one upgrade isn't their best option. But LAD strategy is good at piling up regular season wins. I do think there's something to be said by splurging for dominance, but that depends on them seeing Q as such. Q may be the single embodiment of the value Dodgers get from depth/above average: Q is less dominant traditionally speaking, but always healthy, always good, and ... lefty.

Thanks for sharing. I wonder if Forbes has updated their formula at all considering the Marlins may get 2 billion for that team.

Experimenting with random prove-it or lose-it AAAA types on a rebuilding season is exactly what I wanted them to do. You may strike gold like Philly did. Asche could prove it, or then LIriana will come up, or Garcia. None will really impact the 2017 White Sox, but maybe some could be a long-term starter.

Heads - Cornell Mann talking about running the Hoiberg offense at Mizzou. Opening night will be fun (though I think "pro-style" offense is now a catchall) -
This isn't the first year the Bears have been bad though. Draft has always been a pretty big topic here, never seen so few people care especially with a top 3 pick. Not criticizing everyone, just seems like NFL's stranglehold really is weakening.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) It is also how the TWolves lost 5 years worth of #1 draft picks. It is also worth mentioning that the White Sox ownership group did not want this current commissioner elected and worked very hard to elect someone else. I will be shocked if MLB truly cares. The owners wanted price certainty. The MLB wants best players in game to play there. There won't be many more situations like Otani. They'll say not in spirit of rules and maybe change it in next CBA.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) He bothers me to the extent that he's taking ABs from Davidson, a guy who might still have some upside at the MLB level. Are they really though? Davidson has seemed to have issues mentally. They are setting him up to succeed IMO by platooning him with Asche. Worked for Trayce.

I continue to be amazed how little people care about the Bears this offseason.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) The fact that he's a good story is part of the reason why he's overrated. Go ahead and cheer for him all you want, but I hear way more about him than other prospects in our system who also have backup ceilings. He's routinely on these sleeper lists and I'm pretty sure a certain poster here predicted Alvarez would develop into a top 100 prospect at one point. If it weren't for his interesting background, he'd just be another organizational guy IMO. There's like 6 posters that regularly post back here, so if anyone of them gets a crush it becomes disproportional. You can already see the soxtalk push happening for Delmonico.

They likely aren't scouting individual players, he was probably on a tournament (14 is freshman year) and they started scouting. The MLB draft includes high school players, so not sure why anyone is incredulous at white sox having scouting reports on them. If a player could be good enough to be top ten rounds out of high school, the scouts probably ran into them early in their careers. That doesn't mean they went to specifically scout that one player.

I hadn't really dove in on Blake Harris because of some of the bigger names but he has some really fun highlight tape. Guess he plays out of control a lot but that team could have used his fun last year. -
I think it's kinda ridiculous to say Alvarez is incredibly overrated and then lost his upside as a reserve infielder, which is basically the same opinion as those rooting for him. He's fast and has good OBP skills, and a good story. Not everyone people root for is because they think they'll be stars.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) Davidson stay back. Get some wood on it. Three bat swings and misses.
