  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) But why? Almost everyone hated the AHCA the last time around. Because it doesn't matter if it passes, it just matters that Trump can claim a victory for his first 100 days. He knows people will remember the claiming victory more than the actual change. He wants people to feel like he's kept promises even if he hasn't. I'd say there is no long game there, but his manipulation of the shortgame has worked pretty well so far. edit: this is psychoanalysis I used to only reserve for Lebron James.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) https://theringer.com/2017-nba-playoffs-bos...-2-b162f42ad989 Some good points like how Rondo is everywhere because he knows Boston's playbook. I don't necessarily believe this, as Wade said, Rondo knows everyones playbook. I think he is super focused in playoffs and is being more assertive in demanding everyone know what's up. And that's just easier to do in playoffs.
  3. I think there's no chance it goes to a vote (I think they just wanted a new cycle), and no chance it passes house after the recent special elections.
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) Sure because that makes sense. I wrote an entire article on this though. Badler specifically mentioned the Sox as the team that kept coming up the most in discussions about where he'd land. He even said Sox could blow past pools to sign him. The Sox don't have any current rumored signings for the next period. This is a big factor IMO. They can sign him for any amount and just pay the tax. They won't be reneging on any offers with players for the next period. It being the White Sox makes complete sense. In addition (and maybe you wrote this :$ ) we have more and more money coming off the books, whereas the rest are adding. That said, STL are rich and out a draft pick. Probably shouldn't talk myself into Sox signing him too much, could be a big gut punch.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) With it being the last shot to spend before the new rules, I can see a real bidding war erupting. I understand this viewpoint, but for many teams the eruption (gross) already happened. No way a team like the Pads could legit spend double their ML payroll on one INTL class. STL / HOU are more in the range of a team that could spend big having only banked $15 million. But As already also went big at $15 mill. Do we see them bidding into the $30 mill, putting them at a $45 mill spend? Can't see it, not with the money they are losing in new CBA to push them to get a stadium.
  6. I continue to see the Cards as the main competition.
  7. Would be thrilled with Soto and I'd expect that to be what the Sox ask for. Would fulfill the part that Hostetler has discussed where they need to balance out the age talent in our minors, were targeting more HS this year.
  8. I would second the guess of the $15.5, I think there is a lot more downward pressure on Robert's salary due to teams already removed and the spend already taken in 2016. But I see that as the high end.
  9. If the Astros spent $35 million for Robert, that's $70 million, plus $15 million already taxed and spent, so an $85 million dollar international free agent spend. They increased payroll to $124 million, up 25% from last year. I just don't buy it.
  10. I will be shocked if he gets $35 million. I think you guys are way overestimating this.
  11. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) I'm sure it's in this thread somewhere, but how close is he supposed to be to the majors? I haven't actually seen that estimated. He has not played that much so in my head he was more of a Soler track or optimistically Moncada.
  12. There needs to be some research into what money raised actually tells us about the race vs what money deployed actually affects the race. Ossoff is interesting for small donations, Bernie was more notable for small donations, clearly Trump as well. But, is this money important at all or just a waste (i.e. subsidy for local media). And maybe that's good.
  13. Wow I missed that he said that. Nervous that he will meet with Abe and then say that China was once part of Japan.
  14. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) Last night's election results showed a 22% swing in the electorate since Nov 8th. That's insane. Jon outperformed even the best polls by 3 points, and the most pessimistic by 9 points. The Dems got 49.5% of the vote last night, compared to 38% in Tom Price's last election. If it weren't for gerrymandering, today the GA-6 would be blue. That said, I feel pretty good about Jon's chances vs. Karen Handel, who has lost every single GA election she's run in, from state legislature to senate to the governorship. Most recent polls have Jon at 48% to Handel's 47%. I'm hopefully going to be heading back for the run-off, because this was the most amazing campaign I've ever been involved with. We had more volunteers than the last 10 candidates in the race got votes... combined. Power to the people, yall! A runoff like this I have no feel for. When there is a runoff that happens when an incumbent is running, I think they are close to toast. But this one, this is obviously a red district that could rally around a republican candidate, but the enthusiasm gap is very large, and Handel is walking a fine line of republican constituencies. If Ossoff can repeat his turnout I think he gets 50%, I think election fatigue will hit this district, but on the other hand old people love voting.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 07:54 AM) I kind of doubt the price gets higher, but that teams will finally be willing to meet the Sox price. it is the bids that will go up, not the offer. Agree with this. Just glad we've moved out of the "Robertson for Severino" territory here.
  16. That was a fun read. It still just feels so weird to watch that team, these are literally the players I hated most for so many years and I'm watching them at echoes of their best, if not their best. I do respect what appears to be pretty damn good coaching by Hoiberg.
  17. It's been a while since I woke up and tried to consume every Bulls mentioning article I could find.
  18. It will probably come down to options, and by the time they are ready to come back, there will likely be an obvious candidate.
  19. Very satisfying, kinda surreal. When rondo / wade / butler / Lopez all hopped back out for last 5 min I was just like, supremely confident.
  20. Yeah enough can't be said about that Gonzalez performance. Yanks were on fire prior to tonight.
  21. Same story as always "omg dem way outperforming!" "Oh actually they don't have what they need zoops"
