April 24th Game Thread: Chicago Whife Sox vs. KC Royals
bmags replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) Sort of project the Sox should be after. Brewers have done an exceptional rebuild. Wladimir Balentien could be the same sort of thing. Dude looked incredible at the WBC. Would be fun. -

2 more homers for Eric Thames. Incredible. -
Brett Austin has had a nice start. Don't know about "prospect" but if our catchers are as terrible as they have been last several years I'd bet both him and Gonzalez have a shot at seeing the majors for some amount of games.
-
If Canaan starts I wouldn't even want him to handle the ball, since he has no handles. Just let Jimmy/Wade do primary ballhandling and have Canaan sit from outside for spacing/shooting.
-
Sure. It is very difficult for a move to not at least just be a lateral move from Jacob May so may as well plug in whomever for a little bit.

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Eaton playing well helps but the fact that Lopez and Dunning are crushing it as well when they were the secondary and third pieces to the trade it may still be lopsided. We wont know for some time though. I just think the previous trade with them does play a role in how they approach making a trade for Robertson and it wouldnt be in a good way for the Sox. Is that not fair to think? I guess I just think the Nats getting killed for that trade was overblown, but especially when Eaton is providing exactly what they wanted on a team that will be in a penant race. They moved Turner to his preferred position, and replaced that poor SS production with a high OBP offensive force. I still think that trade was even and exactly what I expected for 5 years of cheap eaton.
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) I am not sure I would even seriously consider the Nats after what happened publicly on the last trade. I really think they would be gun shy with giving up the talent that Hahn will ask for considering the Eaton trade. Whether that turns out to be a heavily favored trade for the Sox or not has yet to be seen but I still think it hinders the Nats on going all out for Robertson. Whether it was a good trade for them or not they looked really unsure of themselves after it went down which gave the feel like they realized they made a huge mistake. It may have been far from the truth but that sure as hell what it looked like. They dont anything like that to happen again. Eaton has a near .400 OBP and has been hitting a lot of doubles. I think they have whatever cover they needed for that deal, especially with Giolito's struggles.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) I am not sure that this would happen even if we picked up all salary. Take a soxtalk trade proposal, cut it in half, you are closer to a realistic trade.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) Kieboom, Soto and Severino. This is not realistic.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 09:51 AM) I havent seen that. Most of the under 24 year old kids I know seem to be trying to specialize in some niche occupation, including going to grad school for additional qualification only to find out that there are no openings because its such a niche. I feel you need to get general experience in something like sales before you specialize in any sort of business. Even banking jobs start out in some type of sales. But thats just my opinion. Yeah, I really think this is on schools. What could you possibly know other than school after going K-12, then undergrad? The schools have found a moneygrab of 4+1 and direct to masters that they market to their current undergrad students. And I sort of remember in school it seeming like grad school was much more inevitable than it was, so why not "save some money" and go straight to grad. And that sucks. Really wish they set expectations that at least MBAs and others are more applicable after several years in business. Seems like the opposite though, that they are trying to change it so that is not the norm.

Sometimes Tex speaks like Dumbledore, I would not be surprised if he is framing it as success of American institutions to endure holding back someone like Trump.
-
I think Jerian Grant could be a decent backup point guard but this team especially has seen what happens to backup point guards getting overexposed in the playoffs. We just have a crap ton of really bad guards. That was the thing with the regular season bulls: really really terrible guard play.

April 23rd Game Thread: White Sox vs. Indians

Still haven't been after opening day debacle. Weather like this I just wanna get there ASAP. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 11:55 AM) Not sure how much the velocity uptick is due to him throwing harder versus how they're measuring velocity this year, but the overall stuff and command look better. If he's looking at pitch f/x data this wouldn't matter. Only statcast updated.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 12:40 AM) The majority of people I talk to are fine with the rebuild. They aren't idiots though. We need to know the idiot contingents thoughts though -

"I knew the Sox were rebuilding but I didn't know it meant I'd have to watch bad players play baseball!" -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 09:29 PM) Well that's not correct. If he's out of the boot, it doesn't take another month to get ready. He's one that i thought they would want to really see this year. Wouldn't it be retroactive though

Great AB by Narvaez. I know he Kd. He worked it -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) I can't see the Bears taking a QB at 3. They'll trade down and get Trubisky/Mahomes/Kizer. "I don't think Bears will take Bears at 3" and "Bears will trade down" are not compatible.
-
He should ask for as much as he can get.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) There was a point in the 1970's (and Charlie O'Finely) where the A's literally were trying to sell their best players off to the highest bidder. IIRC, the Yankees were right the front of the line before MLB finally stepped in. At that point, they put some restrictions on cash deals which didn't exist before. I want to say it was in reaction to free agency? I understand why MLB reviews cash purchases, I don't understand why buying essentially cap space from teams that can't use it seems unfair to some.
-
QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) I understand that. I'm saying there must be a rule to stop a team like the White Sox from giving a team 300k in cash for a bonus slot worth 1 million they wouldn't otherwise use. I don't understand why that behavior is bad though. It's no different than NBA teams trading for trade exceptions so that they can accept a more expensive player in the future. The receiving team gets something they can use (cash) the seller gives something valuable (allotted space) That said, I doubt a cash trade would be a likely scenario. A player with a small likelihood to succeed is probably still more valuable to a team than 300k.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) Teams that are not able to spend over $300k on players have to have some room left. Ah, that's cool. I guess I didn't translate that they are still given a slot, it is just individual signings capped.
