  1. QUOTE (shipps @ May 1, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) I guess my timeline is all out of sorts. I thought most of that was completed before they signed Glennon. It's around the same time, signed glennon 3/10, combine is the week before. But pro days and private workouts came after.
  2. Though we lost, it was nice that we got through yesterday using only Beck.
  3. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 1, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) There were 70ish trades in this draft. The vast majority were spontaneous. There is plenty of time to get a deal done. It was moronic for Pace to tell Lynch that he'd be willing to offer "at least" two 3rd round picks before the draft started. If that's the way Pace wanted to go, you call up Lynch in the moment and ask him what it would take. All Pace accomplished was letting Lynch know he could drive up the price because he knew how much Pace wanted to trade up. There is a difference between the top 5, and trading down in the 4th when you are talking about single pick sums. How do you think people knew certain teams wanted to trade up and down? You think they don't set baselines?
  4. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) OK, what the hell: Why on earth is this understanding already out there, before the draft begins? Pace played his intentions before the cards were dealt. He opened the door for Lynch to drum up some fake interest in the 2nd pick, knowing full well that Pace was willing to pay more for it. What a colossal, moronic mistake by Pace. That is incredibly common. There is not that much time between picks for long negotiations.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) It all depends on who/what you believe. Rapaport was just on the Score and said there was absolutely another team pushing the 49ers for their pick, King says the Bears got played. According to the value chart, the Bears didnt overpay, and it was on par with what the Eagles gave up for Wentz(who threw 9 more college passes than Trubisky), but some people think the value chart is more of a guide and not really a bible. Everyone has said it, Trubisky is Pace's horse, we just have to see if he was worth it. I really don't read that. I take what he is saying as he doesn't think the 2nd team would have ponied up what would have been significantly more due to the bigger drop for SF. There was definite interest, but what they offered the Bears was basically we'll stop fielding calls for a 4th round pick, after they already agreed to 2 thirds. That's not a crazy heist.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) From larry at SSS average launch angle this season is 10.4°, in contrast to 5.3° in 2016 and 6.3° in 2015. He's a better hitter this year no doubt. I think the weight loss has helped him in the field more than at the plate. He just looked kinda stiff last year. Maybe coming off the shoulder he focused a bit too much on pure weight training. The new trend in performance training is a lot of band and core and so called "closed chain" work over just pure weight lifting, so hopefully he's adopted that approach. Yeah saw this over the weekend and this is the one stat that makes me intrigued. If he keeps that up then I think we are going to see a sustained more powerful avi.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:09 AM) I mean you can try to recognize what is going on, or you can just be angry about it. Right. It's possible that Hawk Harrelson is not history's greatest monster and has normal motivations.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 1, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) I hate this framing because they could have not traded up in the first and still traded down later and ended up with a lot more picks overall. I do too, they could have easily seen a 2017 draft where they had 10+ picks, instead they had 5. But, the main thing I was getting at was what was the correct 2018 compensation we gave up.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 1, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) That Trubisky trade is so dumb. They gave up THREE additional picks to move up ONE spot when it wasn't even certain that SF would take him or that there was a better offer for that pick. Trading additional picks is the last thing the Bears should be doing right now. Putting all their chips into Trubisky when they have so many other needs is absolutely baffling to me. The only way they'd be certain someone else had an offer on the pick is if another team traded up and they lost out on who they wanted.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 1, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) They traded 2017 1st, 3rd, and 4th and 2018 3rd rounder for #2. Then when they traded down later, they acquired a 4th rounder in 2018. Next year's picks: 1st, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th. Thanks, I misspoke in my earlier post, he described the 2018 pick at different points as a 3rd and other times a 4th. Yours is what I thought it was.
  11. Can someone clarify something for me. The Peter King article at different point mentions the bears trading a 2017 3rd and 4th and a 2018 Fourth, then later in the article says its a 2017 3rd and 4th and a 2018 4th. I've seen multiple "bears basically traded a 3rd rounder after they recouped their picks trading down". What is accurate?
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) Personally, it wasn't a complaint, it was an observation that makes me wonder if it's on purpose or if he is losing some of his energy. I think it's the latter.

  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:17 AM) At the very least, it allows the Bears not to rush Trubisky. They weren't going to win anything anyway in 2017. Free agency was quantity not quality. They are playing for 2018, and probably at least one of Pace/Fox won't be there, maybe both. I don't like how they invited Glennon to their official draft party though if they knew Trubisky was such a possibility.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) Peter King was embedded in the 49ers draft room. Interesting read to see how a draft plays out, but also adds fire to the argument that Pace got played and was mostly bidding against himself when trading up. http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/05/01/san-fra...ster-peter-king You know, all that says to me is the majority of the beating the Bears are taking is over signing Glennon. I hate Glennon because I think he'll just be Ryan Mallet or Matt Flynn pt infinity, but part of this is the NFL constantly being shocked at what quarterbacks make.
  16. To me the only reason it looks terrible is its 5 players and 3 of them were rounds 5-7. Looking back, I think the biggest missed opportunity in my opinion (repeating myself) was Pace not using his first draft to accumulate as many picks as possible. We had a nice draft last year, but that's because of 3 players out of 9, and that's about right. And now we are playing from behind again next year. 2015 was the time to trade down, when his staff wasn't set. Could have given us a surplus of picks to continue to play with in the future. Fine with trading up for Trubisky, but we look like a team that will constantly be in the desperation position in the draft instead of comfortable playing the long game.
  17. I think he's just older. My elders got very quiet in their 80s. Vin Scully was incredible for a reason.
  18. I wouldn't have guessed De Oca would be a top 100 pick.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) Schallers is closing. Only in business 136 years. That's sad. I hope someone scoops it up and does something with it.
  20. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Struggling can be part of development. He needs to adjust, and I'm sure he's intelligent enough to realize this and obviously talented enough to execute. Obviously no guarantees, but I'm not ready to worry too much. He's also seemingly started slow every year while going through the minor leagues. Well said.
  21. Not good stuff. I'd hope to use Beck today and go into tomorrow fresh.
  22. QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 09:04 AM) Probably going to be some delays in this one. Hopefully the rain can either stay away long enough or stay light enough for them to be able to play If it's anything like here, can't believe they'll fit it in.
